oh the translation for Hui's audition always confuses people 😭 They meant he sacrificed his performance/dance to be able to sing but they mixed it around in the subtitles which makes it mean the exact opposite of what they actually mean lmao so you were exactly right Alex

They voted for him enough to make sure he made it into the final episode, but they stopped voting for him in the final vote. (They may have also intentionally voted for other people in the final vote to drop his ranking out of the top 9 but don't quote me on that). His fans wanted him to stay as Hui from Pentagon not Hoetaek of ZB1. I can kind of see why that's the case because Lee Minhyun was pretty much not allowed to even acknowledge NU'EST while he was in WannaOne. Also, Pentagon isn't as popular as you guys think, even when they were at the height of their popularity (Shine era) they didn't get any music show wins or anything, they only have 2 music show wins in their entire career while BTS, Twice, and EXO have over 100 (for comparison of "popular" groups) so it's not too outlandish for Hui to compete. I do love me some Pentagon though, so I don't blame y'all for thinking they're huge😂. Also, I'm surprised no one made it a big deal when Hwanhee and Dongyeol from Up10tion joined Boys Planet like they did with Hui. Up10tion debuted in 2015 while Pentagon debuted in 2016, so they were idols even longer than Hui was, also In Produce X 101 a member of Up10tion named Wooseok made it into the final lineup. (Produce X 101 was another survival show made by Mnet, it made the group X1 and was the last season of the Produce 101 series due to it being found out the votes were rigged throughout the series.) Wow, this is a lot but if I got anything wrong or confused anything, people are welcome to correct me if I did, this is mostly off the top of my head so sorry 🤣

2024-08-10 12:42:29 +0000 UTCOK one last one lmaoooo but mihawk the dance trainer that seems harsh was edited crazily during the whole show. he seems very harsh and not willing to help the trainees improve but he actually did, it was just edited out to make the show more entertaining. he's a dance mentor for so many idols, he's literally exo's father. he also knows hui personally as well, this is why he's so strict on the four stars.

2024-08-10 09:49:01 +0000 UTCTHIS IS MY LAST COMMENT I PROMISE! but the reason why they didn't prioritise rap in this competition is because recently, idols have been criticised for not being able to sing well. vocals is the number one thing you need to become an idol. yes, you can rap. but to be a rapper, you need to sing well. look at mark or taeyong from nct for example, they can sing well and can fill in for other member's absences despite being main rappers. not being able to sing in a kpop group is a disgrace to netizens. you can't be a rapper and then have your voice crack on stage. if people wanted to see rap in an audition show, they would have watched high school rapper or show me the money instead of an idol audition show.

2024-08-10 08:59:39 +0000 UTCand about his performance, y'all gotta remember that we're not seeing them in person but on camera. he has an amazing voice, but his dance skill is not 4 stars. there was multiple dance professionals performing that are pros in waacking, tutting, krumping, popping, this is why the standard is so high for him. he has the basic skills for dancing which is why he tried to include a dance break but i feel like if he just focused on his vocals, his performance would have been much more cohesive. for example: if he had no dance break, he could have hit much higher notes while doing a simple dance and give a wow factor like Jay.

2024-08-10 07:53:53 +0000 UTCwithout spoiling HUGELY, one of the factors of why i didn't vote for hui personally, was because he didn't fit in the ideal image i wanted for the debut group. this goes for many koreans and global voters too, he already had his chance to be in a largely popular group in 3rd gen. meanwhile these trainees are hoping for a chance to debut. they just appeal more to viewers like me.

2024-08-10 07:15:01 +0000 UTCto answer the question about trainees picking songs that don't fit well with their voices...well they just want to look cool. for trainees, you need to have a strong first impression on the viewers, so they usually opt for songs from: bts, exo, nct, the boyz etc. to look cool even if their skills are not up to par.

They also have a lot of famous solo ballad singers and the famous girl group "Davichi" who only has 2 members but they are one of the most well known singers for drama osts.

They kinda gloss over it because the performance video was actually aired and uploaded onto youtube before episode one even came out (with these competition shows, they release the "signal song" performance before the show starts, so you can see all of the contestants for the first time in a grand way) so anyways what i'm trying to say is, I would highly recommend you guys checking out the official video for the signal song after you watch episode 3, you don't have to react to it, I just thought it was worth mentioning!!
