New File Sharing System! *NO MORE SYNC*
Added 2021-01-13 21:36:36 +0000 UTCHi Patrons!
Sync has gone from bad, to worse, to laughable recently. I reached out to their support team and they essentially said I wasn't telling the truth. They are convinced I am trying to download 100s of gigs at a time. However, I am struggling to download a single 20 MB file! Many of you have told me the same.
So, I am cutting my losses and moving on. (Sync makes you pay one year upfront. I'm more than halfway so realistically I'm only losing like $50, no big deal at this point I just want it fixed)
I am moving everything to GumRoad and Google Drive!
- GumRoad will allow you to download entire folders quickly.
- Google Drive is for popping in and just grabbing the one file you need.
I AM NOT INTERESTED IN:
- Dropbox (I had a TERRIBLE experience with them)
- OneDrive
- MyMiniFactory
- AirDrop
- And so many more....
They all have their own issues and obstacles for the consumer. Also, they cost money. I am really happy with my solution and it is all one-click download stuff ^_^ So don't worry about finding alternatives for me, though I appreciate the effort!
All changes will be done by next week!
Cheers,
Mia Kay

2021-01-15 03:15:18 +0000 UTCI think Mia was talking about the design of Sync, which wastes unbelievable CPU and time re-compressing on every download. I looked up MyAirBridge, and it's not cheap (~$700 a year for unlimited downloads) but, you are also right that it has a wild sort of UI that's unique to itself. But boy does it work. AG puts gigabyte files out there, and they come down in seconds instead of the half-hour plus it used to take on Sync *when I could get it to work at all.*

2021-01-14 21:26:33 +0000 UTCMMF is indeed having a lot of growth which is awesome for them! You put it very well, and I don't want to be part of their growing pain stage lol

2021-01-14 08:08:39 +0000 UTCSounds great! You will have that option now :D

2021-01-14 08:08:05 +0000 UTCSO ridiculous! Thanks for being patient :)

2021-01-14 08:07:45 +0000 UTCHappy to hear that :D Also, Duncan is the best.

2021-01-14 08:07:20 +0000 UTCExact same library is going up on Google Drive. Each of the main folders (categories shown on my website https://www.m3dmprints.com/model-library-directory) will have zipped options available for quick and easy download on GumRoad. Hope that helps :)

2021-01-14 08:07:12 +0000 UTCSo I just want to make sure. Right now it is basically an open repository that is organized a certain way. With GumRoad will you organize it the same way or a different way? If it is different is there a way I can tell which models I've already downloaded if over the time I've supported that I've downloaded new models and kept them up to date with your libraries?

2021-01-14 07:35:10 +0000 UTCMMF is having severe growth pains. It seems in the coming shake up I see coming in the 3d printing area, they are positioning themselves to take on kickstarter for 3d print projects. I have dozens of KS projects on MMF, and about 12 patreons i subscribe to are using them for files delivery. Gumroad is a decent system, not quite as robust as MFF, but has some other features MMF doesn't have. About 10 of my patreons use them. Including as mentioned, BellaNacht and EpicsNStuffs. Its so much easier to properly use those systems, than to keep track of google drive, dropbox, sync, etc. Several people use DTRPG or their own website delivery systems, and DTRPG seems to offer brandable sites. Good luck :) As long as we get the models, it doesn't matter to me ;)

2021-01-14 07:16:00 +0000 UTCHonestly this is the first time I have used sync and it has turned me off the service. I personally would prefer to download all the things because my internet is spotty. I can go to a friends house an download a lot quickly the head home and print it .
2021-01-14 04:16:39 +0000 UTCThis is celebration worthy! Cheers *clinks glass* :D

2021-01-14 02:51:54 +0000 UTCAnd @Mia Yeah, I like being able to just use a coupon code to get the files. AND I don't have to lug my drive with me if I'm not printing at home. Ok, that's a relief. Some KS projects I've been looking at are using MMF now and I got worried when I saw you weren't considering them. :) Seems Gumroad and MMF are the top contenders for file sharing now.

2021-01-13 23:16:47 +0000 UTC@nightlurker - yeah, the ones I have on MMF haven't failed on the three computers I've downloaded them onto. The speeds are luckily (unluckily?) not an issue because my internet sucks anyways ROFL

2021-01-13 23:16:11 +0000 UTCI have a few with MMF and the only problem I have had is their D/L speed is inconsistent you can get one D/L @200-300 Kb and the very next file is @ 3-4Mb but at least they finish you don't have to sit and watch them for the fails. The few I have had from Gumroad have worked like a dream so if I have a choice I will go for them. πΈ

2021-01-13 23:09:33 +0000 UTCYay!! Duncan Louca uses Gumroad as well and I have never had an issue downloading from him.

2021-01-13 23:00:06 +0000 UTCI love this idea!! Like I said yesterday, I've not been able to download 1 file from Sync.

2021-01-13 22:24:33 +0000 UTCYay! I'm glad you are already happy with GumRoad too! I love it :) MyMiniFactory is probably fine ^_^
M3DM
2021-01-13 22:17:59 +0000 UTCYay, Gumroad is awesome! BellaNacht and Epics'n'Stuffs use Gumroad and it's sooo much better than Sync or Dropbox's issues. I haven't had any issues with MyMiniFactory though, but I only have one set from there. If you're steering away from it I'll have to keep my eyes open for issues down the road.

2021-01-13 22:16:48 +0000 UTCIt is a unique design, but the few times I've used it with other Patreons it has been reliable and quick, even for 1GB downloads, something I can't say about sync
Matthew Cooper
2021-01-13 22:16:07 +0000 UTCRight?? What is with that design?
M3DM
2021-01-13 21:50:34 +0000 UTCAGREED! It took me way too long to switch. I just couldn't believe it kept getting worse and worse. I wanted to give them a chance to fix their problems but, here we are lol Thanks for sticking with me!

2021-01-13 21:49:57 +0000 UTCSync is just terrible. I can't understand why they recompress a zip file every time someone clicks download on a folder. Zip it once, store it in a hidden folder and drop it on command. Anyway, I know you've made your choice, and I have no idea what it costs, but Artisan Guild uses MyAirBridge, which has been fantastic, even with huge downloads. Just thought I'd toss it out there.

2021-01-13 21:47:54 +0000 UTCThank you Mia, it's about time people started taking their business away from sync it is abysmal! I have started to cull my patreon accounts as I'm sick of having to babysit sync downloads, restarting them every 20-30 meg sometimes.
