Sprite! Choose the Style~
Added 2020-05-12 23:24:34 +0000 UTCHi everyone!

SIZE CHALLENGE
Sprites are an interesting challenge. They are 1 to 2 feet tall which means they will be about 7mm from foot to eye level. That is so tiny that there is hardly a point in modeling much detail.
I plan to scale them at 4 to 5 feet tall so they will be about 20mm foot to eye level. It won't be perfectly "proper" but you'll be able to actually paint and enjoy them ^_^ They will still look WAY smaller than your standard humans.
There will be a no base version provided so you can scale them to whatever size you like per usual if you want a 7mm tall proper mini haha
STYLES
Sprites are not canon in D&D. There are pixies, but no sprites. There isn't a ton of differences, but I decided to go with sprites for the extra artistic liberty. Here are my favorite three styles for sprites.
DARK SPRITE

CLASSIC FOREST SPRITE

BUTTERFLY WARRIOR SPRITE

2020-05-15 15:21:32 +0000 UTCThe Dark and Forest Sprites would be fantastic! :)

2020-05-14 01:03:03 +0000 UTCThose are the two I am torn between too~

2020-05-13 17:14:26 +0000 UTCI can propose it as a theme next month! Doing all 4 of these THIS month completely kills the point of a design decision, plus I'd need a time machine or something to finish an additional 3 models this month lol
M3DM
2020-05-13 17:14:13 +0000 UTCCan we have all of them? Maybe a sprite/fairy/pixie army as next month's theme...

2020-05-13 06:27:45 +0000 UTCI want to go dark. However the thought of an armored butterfly archer is incredibly tempting.

2020-05-13 06:15:03 +0000 UTCI don't know if you meant for it to be funny but I found your comment hilarious XD hahaha Maybe she fits the theme, maybe she's just sexy? Who knows? lol
M3DM
2020-05-13 05:58:27 +0000 UTCWith the Wendigo the theme turns quite dark. So the dark sprite theme fits good. Maybe she was chosen, because she wears the least stuff.

2020-05-13 05:53:36 +0000 UTCI've been looking for a sprite model that is somewhat appropriate size. My wife plays one from the homebrew.
2020-05-13 00:07:46 +0000 UTCYou got it! :D If it wins though, I'll definitely keep your comment in mind ^_^

2020-05-12 23:47:10 +0000 UTCTo each their own! Guess we'll have to see what the finished sprite looks like!

2020-05-12 23:45:58 +0000 UTCI disagree, I'd make it fit in pretty easily ^_^ The little armor she has would be sculpted like tree bark and I'd tuck leaves into her hair. The concept art armor looks sorta like vines which I think is cool~ I'd incorporate the cursed vine look into her design too.

2020-05-12 23:43:10 +0000 UTCngl I think the dark sprite is not fitting with the rest of the set's overall aesthetic, where as the other two are.

2020-05-12 23:39:36 +0000 UTCOh, no worries about that. But yeah, there's even an official wizkids d&d sprite mini. Wouldn't want it to be too similar... I already have that one after all lol

2020-05-12 23:39:00 +0000 UTCWell put! Those are the two I'm torn between personally

2020-05-12 23:37:24 +0000 UTCThat is tough! I really like both the dark sprite and the butterfly sprite! Totally different vibes for both.

2020-05-12 23:36:51 +0000 UTCI think the buterfly wings are gorgeous too. It is what I think of when I think of sprites.
M3DM
2020-05-12 23:35:42 +0000 UTCI wasn't suggesting you would copy the artwork, but the way it's positioned in the art, I can see that style working well for FDM or resin, thats what I was getting it, J would never expect or suggest an artist to steal the creative works of others!
2020-05-12 23:35:31 +0000 UTCI only found sprites in the homebrew section of D&D Beyond. Either way, I'm not too fussed on keeping it perfectly canon.
M3DM
2020-05-12 23:35:23 +0000 UTCSprites are in the Monster Manual, at least according to dnd beyond. Wings are pictured more like dragonfly wings whereas pixies are shown more butterfly-wing like
wordflyer
2020-05-12 23:34:15 +0000 UTCI like butterfly wings for the fair folk. It helps to set them apart as a distinct group from celestial and demons, while at the same time reinforcing their connection to nature.
