Girls Planet Watch Party - EP 12: THE FINALE

Comments

I actually like the group that was created! My top pick made it (youngeun) and so did many of my ideal top 9. To talk about bahiyyih, i never voted for her, but I think she’s actually a great performer, it’s just that mnet never gave her screentime. She always had super stable vocals and is a pretty good dancer. I just wish for her sake (due to the hate she’s been getting) that she would’ve ranked 8 or 9. That way she would still debut but people wouldn’t be as mad :( honestly it sucks to see people sending death threats to a literal 17 year old

Wow, someone is pissed... She has a name, you should say it when referring to her.

I haven't watched the show just clips here and there on youtube. I don't know much about the kpop beauty standards but I find Bahiyyih beautiful!

Haha everyone’s upset about Yurina not making it… meanwhile, here I am, gutted over the loss of Shana. I wish the All Rounder cell could’ve absorbed the trainees that Korea rejected and formed their own group! I’d actually listen to them lol

ajewell

please make the aftershow a lot of international fans are piss. I don't think ya would get canceled except by kai sister fans. How is this is a global group with 3 international members? Fucking Koreans why bring politics to kpop.

Endy Lu

i read a tweet saying the ones who didn't make it have a better chemistry than top 9 :p i'll wait for their cb & judge whether i like them or not. but more than that, I'm waiting for JiA & few other contestants to debut.

@DKDKTV Check this out!!

VBBHV

Check the raw vote calculation here https://ibb.co/Tm94n1T

If it not 50:50 Korean:international vote bahi will be the 1 kim dayeon is 14 and kang ye sao is 11 and will replace by fuyaning and suruiqi other than that nothing change so much but man if they do it so dayeon could debut in this group she come this far because multiplication of Korean vote. I don’t mad at them because it gonna be internal group that base on Korean any way but I feel bad for c group trainee mnet invite them to evil edit them for the drama and cut them out from debut group

It would be interesting to see how this bunch works out as a group. Tbh Hikaru seems a bit off, her facial expressions were always over the top to me. Maybe if they find a way to take it down a notch and have it be more harmonious with the other members it will work out. Unfortunately that has to be tamed down, maybe if she was a solo artist she could express her full potential. Also.. I feel that Shen Xiao Ting doesn’t blend in well with the group. She will stand out, and you can say it’s becuase of her talent or what not, but at the end of the day a group should more or less be harmonious. I don’t think I could have predicted this final lineup, but all in all I think it’s a diverse group of talent, and I wish them luck. Oh and also, I don’t want to hate on Bahiyyih. Yes she did get in on a popularity contest, but I guess you can complain about that to Mnet. As she was just a contestant and she seems like a sweet girl. My one critique would be her facial expressions which seem to be monotone whenever she’s on stage. Always a stiff smile to the camera... it’s not very appealing in that sense. But I think if she works on that she’ll be okay. Her dancing and singing skills aren’t bad either. oh also off topic but I think the name of the group is a bit weird. Kep1er.. the number in there doesn’t make a google search too easy either hehe. I see that it comes from the astronomer Johansson Kepler.. hmm maybe it can grow on me.

Wow, this is the first watch party where I'm moved to comment. LOL Mainly because of shock. But honestly because I feel both of your comments and the patreon community really gave me a wider perspective of these sort of shows. I still enjoyed parts of the show tbh, but it's unfortunate that these girl's dreams ended up being twisted into actual international politics. At the same time, I do think that whether or not the contestants realized it, or fans in general realize it, choosing the career of an entertainer inevitably gets wrapped into these sort of issues. Sadly it probably won't be the last either. Personally I had no idea such influence can carry into an audition program! So I really do appreciate your direct and raw perspectives of the average, cultural mindset in the Korean industry. Still, I do hope Kep1er finds success, and I am happy some of my picks made it too. And I'm glad I joined for these hilarious (and sometimes frustrating LOL) reactions!

my thoughts dont be offended, at the end of the day everyone has different thoughts and opinions. 1: Chae hyun being no.1 makes no sense. like genuinely WHO IS SHE? I dont remember her on this show outside of her voice crack in black mamba stage... Chae Hyun is literally unpopular internationally, she's less popular then Wen Zhe internationally. ik she aint gonna get support from internationals and she's RANK1? nah doesn't sit right with me. 2. Bahiyyih, im glad she debuted. she's not ready AT ALL and she will get hate 100%, ik everyone who voted for her and her fandom did their job but ik they won't continue to support her with albums etc. solo stans, they won't bring much profit, bg stans who supported her, won't buy GG albums, its actually a thing. 3. Yujin, I think Yujin is just boring and not fresh, ive seem this girl on my screen for YEARS now, im bored of her. she showcased nothing but crying on this show 4. Dayeon, golden. child made it. not surprised. thought she would be top2 tho. but she's the first contestant I think who's talent matches with the result. 5. youngeun, she did her thing and I think she will be the yena of this group. she's insanely talented main rapper, dancer and vocal already and she's like 16?17? 6. Yeseo, I think she did ok through out this show, but idk . there's something about her that outside of her stages, she seems basic and boring to me but I have grown to like her a bit more 7. hikaru, I mean are we suprised? she gives me bad vibe idk why. never liked her and does she even fit this group? 8. Mashiro, literally if I didnt know her predebut and that she was nearly in ITZY, I wouldn't have noticed her at all no this show. 9. ROBBED. girlie wanted OUTTTT, SHE KNEW, Suyeon KNEW, C-Girls KNEW. this show wasn't for them, the C-Girls and xiaoting are better off going back to china with their popularity and starting things there. xiaoting is the only c girl AND she doesn't know or have anyone to help her with korean, she Finna suffer. she's alone. thing girls ranked 10 - 18 and xiaoting wouldve made 100% a WAYYYY better group.

Wiktor

But you can use the "what if" argument for other things. Kpop has pretty privilege with street casting being very common. There's plenty of idols who debuted mainly due to their visuals so that's why I have no issue with Bahiyyih debuting. Just like you can't control how pretty you were born, you can't control who you are related to. She and her fans played according to the rules and did well so can't fault them at that. To me, her family association privilege isn't any worse than pretty privilege.

no

I quit watching talent shows in the US because they weren't believable and the bad editing, sense of unfair judging and never really producing talent just sucked! So, regardless of the way the winner wins, the way they use people in these competitions (both the participants and the audience) is just too much for me. BUT I like watching you guys discussing the show, so that is all I really liked. Not going to follow the group except to see if JK will marry his mirror image!!!!

Lori Hope Townsend

are u guys gonna post the swf ep8 reaction soon?

haeun

Honestly I wish it wasn't 100% fan votes because it was just a popularity contest I feel like there should have at least been a final performance to give benefits to some. Also I really do wish that for the last episode they took away the face that Korean votes were worth 50% I feel like for this show being about Korean, Japanese, and Chinese the fact that only 1 Chinese member got in and barely got in at that. I feel like they should have at least had 2 members from each. And no hate to Bahiyyih but I dont feel as though she showed as much talent as a lot of these other girls did. Maybe it was the editing but everytime I saw her she never looked happy and she never seemed to care to try out for the killing part or main vocalist positions until the very last episode. It just didnt seem like she wanted this as much as some of the others or maybe she felt like because of her brother she could get in anyways.

Kassie Do

I mean idk I agreed with a lot of the member selection but just one Chinese member and in the nine position I though at least 2 but no like better to just have Korean girls but not surprised tbh

Ana Rodriguez

Sunmi is having an online concert, that's why her hair is that color

kolea626

fu yaning and suruiqi literally had more votes than some of the winners... lmao. also follow suruiqi on instagram @sury_777!!

I-LAND had way more interactions between the mentors and the trainees. Although the broadcast made it seem more harsh, the actual critique was on-point and the trainees knew HOW to take critique and fix their performances (vocal/dance, individual/group) to improve themselves towards the mission stage. That's what we, as the viewers, got to see more of, as well the day-to-day interactions between the boys. That's how the viewers bonded with the boys and based their votes - so much more character (than performance) based. That's why they (and me) follow the group like we do - it was based on their potential. We've seen that pan out - it's not a year since their debut and I expect they'll be on Billboard again.

kolea626

I think the voting system from the beginning was just really flawed and going to lead to this happening. The overall skill level of the K-group trainees was higher at the beginning, I'm sure they came from a much bigger pool, and there were way more K-group girls from the beginning who got more screen time and people were interested in voting for. But since you had to vote for equal members, that really concentrated votes for K-group and C-group and made it seem like those top members were way safer than they actually would be once the end was reached. A huge number of people obviously wanted Shen Xiaoting to debut in order to move her from 16th to 9th place since the midterm, but they all thought she was safe in a way that they didn't feel that their K-group pick was safe. At least, that's my analysis. And I think it was really predictable that this would happen since the point when Yurina became 1st. I think that creating a group totally based on viewer votes will lead to more views for the TV show, but doesn't really allow the opportunity to create a balanced final line-up. I think I-Land was often a more frustrating show to watch than GP999 was, but in the end the group that was made which had members directly eliminated/picked by producers in addition to voters led to the creation of a solid group. It's hard to imagine that Kep1ler will be anywhere near as successful as Enhypen.

Sylvie

No hate but Kim Chaehyun was never on my radar, and if what you said is correct (from previous Patreon) than Aespa fandom put her in 1st place and MOA put Bahiyyih in second place - is that fair to assume? I'm personally OK with Bahiyyih but that whole business with the 1st/2nd place ranking was ludicrous - they both made the group, OK! Rankings disappear and all members are (supposedly) equal in the group after the leader is decided. Sheesh, I understand ratings but even I-LAND didn't take five effing minutes to announce the first member into the group. I fell asleep during the member announcement (it was after 2:30AM my time and they were eking out that segment like dripping molasses on a racing sloth). My heart goes out to Shen Xiao Ting and applauded her rebellious nature in speaking in Chinese when she made the final final cut (once more for the cheap seats, GF!) It's gonna be a lonely world for her, she's gonna need a LOT of support, I don't care how strong a person she is.

kolea626

I think Yurina and Shen Xiao ting look really good in one group and they would have been the visuals. Also Kim Suyeon and Seo Youngeun would have great performances. Honestly it is not the best group that could be made out of the show.

Temi

Bahiyyih was 7th in Korea votes, 1st in Internacional votes and 1st overall (not weightning the 50% korean and 50% global). Even in Korea she was in the top 9, people are commenting such horrable things as they wish she would kill herself. Honestly, this is a 17 year old girl who was just trying to pursue her dream. She has a really big fandom, the biggest one overall, people should stop complaining and accept it. Also, she works really good in a team. Please stop the hate comments. They're nonsense.

Maf

Yes, one the unique reasons being having a famous brother.

Aglesh

As salty as I am for Yurina not debuting, i’ve never been on the Bahiyyih hate train since the 1st episode but I do understand why most people reacted that way. Firstly, she definitely stole the spotlight when it was announced that “TXT Huening Kai’s sister” would join the show. Shes already being labelled as an idol’s sibling, gaining attention from many because they wanna see how good she is. Next, she didn’t have any performances that gave off a lot of WOW factor so it really makes people question her spot in the group. Including screen times, it wasn’t as much as other trainees so this really proves that she has a really strong and loyal fan base. I see a lot of people defending her from comments like “she’s only popular because she’s Kai’s sister”, but I do believe that it’s true because with the amount of screen times she’s getting or even lines, she would’ve already been out since the early episodes. Honestly I do feel bad for her because of the amount of hates she’s getting at this age, feels like a deja vu with Wonyoung. There also have been many comparisons between her and Wonyoung. A lot are dragging Wonyoung in this issue just to defend her. Now let me defend Wonyoung as her case is totally different from BHY’s issue because: 1. Wonyoung have always been popular amongst koreans and have been constanly up in the higher ranks (TOP 12) 2. She joined the show with no solid loyal fanbase and connections 3. She have been constanly genting many screentimes and center parts for performances which proves her ability to stan in the center role. 4. Voting mostly done by koreans 5. Even though PD is proven to be rigged, all the reasons states above still proves her spot in the group be it 1st or not. Lastly,I believe that BHY will continue to be mentioned as Kai’s sister, in variety shows and etc.. it is inevitable. Just like noze who were once constantly being labelled as Kai’s backup dancer, I do hope that Bahiyyih can improve lots and let people remember her own NAME. Hoping the best For Kep1er ^^

Mnet should have just given korean votes to have 2x more value than international votes, instead of 50/50. Because by doing 50/50, one korean votes is like 10 international votes.

Aglesh

I think the goal of this show was to create a fandom for the group. That's why Chae Hyun and Bahiyyih, makes sense. They brought the most votes, i.e., instant fandom. I don't know how that will translate in the future. These girls are rookies, we can't expect them to be perfect at the get go. Of course there is always room for improvement. Look at Enhypen. They were very good at start but look how far they have come in less than a year.

Arlene

I'm ok with Bahiyyih debuting. People are definitely exggerating when they say this girl is untalented. No she isn't as tons of non-viewers of the show watched her fancams to see why so many people were bashing her. The general reception is that she's fine because not all kpop idols are superstars. Just because this is a survival show doesn't mean everyone is going to vote for the objectively most talented trainees. Just like how companies don't debut idols solely on talent. Also I have no issue with her using her family connection privilege because obviously it existed and worked. But it's no different than pretty privilege. Tons of idols got street casted and only ever had a chance to be idols because of their visuals. It's fact that if people practce enough, they can develop the skills to be an idol. But plastic surgery and makeup can only enhance beauty so much or else there would be no "visual holes". Companies would rather recruit visuals and give them the resources to develop their skills. For this comparison, talent doesn't matter because you can't control how naturally pretty you are born just like you can't control who you are related to. Sometimes people are born lucky and they should use it to their advantage in life. There's nothing wrong with this and we would all do this to achieve our goals. As long as people are respectful and understand they have the privilege, they are free to use it/

I was really put out by the reaction to Bahiyyih making it to the top 9. I think everyone can agree that she was passed over by mnet on the show, so how can people say she's unskilled if they haven't sought out her previous performance videos to evaluate her? She's a really talented dancer, and I was surprised that this was never highlighted on the show. At the start, when it was announced that members of CLC and Cherry Bullet would be featured on the show, I thought that was far more potentially unfair than someone having a famous brother. I'm really curious to see who gets to be leader! The age gap between Yujin and Dayeon is a bit awkward for Dayeon to lead...

I’ll be honest. I’m not a fan of this group. Literally everyone who I didn’t care for (outside of YoungEun, Xiaoting and Mashiro) debuted. The 10-18 girls should just debuted. I would pick that lineup anyday. It’s more even and balanced aswell.

Wiktor

I was surprised that Shen Xiao Ting didn't rank higher since it felt that even the contestants thought of her as one of the top 3 (that's why she got the killing part in the last performance). Then Yurina, yes, she caught my attention for her looks but can't remember much of her performances, so not very sad about it., Bahiyyih, there is such a difference in level between her and the rest... Not that she was bad, but to me she didn't stand out at all. I just knew her because I am a TXT fan, but to me she is not ready to debut. I hope she learns a lot and really catches up with the rest of the members, 'cause everyone's eyes are on her now and unfortunately, I feel she will get a lot of criticism even if it is not deserved... On the other hand, I am thrilled about Kang YeSeo and Choi Yujin!! :D I will be supporting this group since there is indeed potential within it. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them :))

Patricia

su ruiqi and yurina. sigh.

at this point even if bahiyyih do crazy skillfull stuff people will just mention her brother, stop being so immature and let her live her life

Zi

all the hate is going towards bahiyyih instead of mnet, she did nothing wrong, she got bad treatment from mnet in terms of edits and screentime, and she got hated on every damn episode, this is too much for a 16 year old kid

Zi

i'm honestly very satisfied with the results. i would have loved it if yurina and su ruiqi made it but i believe everyone who did make the final lineup deserves their spot for their own unique reasons. i can't wait to see what they do next. also if you guys had paid even 1 second of attention to seo youngeun, you'd understand why she deserves her spot ;)

Esperanza Rosenbaum

Also I think the voting system should have been 25% Korean/25% Japanese/25% Chinese/25% all other countries and a 3-pick at the finale, that would have been more fair and balanced the group out closer to the 3:3:3 that I wanted. 😔

Sigh… it’s been 2 days now and I just can’t accept how Bahiyyih got 2nd and pushed out Yurina/Su Rui Qi and Shen Xiao Ting got 9th. It really left a bitter taste in my mouth even worse than Kaeun and Chowon got rigged out…. Just goes to show some of the voters pick based off of nationalism pride, And a contestant having an already established sibling as an idol. Sorry if this sounds shady but these are still my feelings after 2 days now so I guess they are valid and not overreactions :( . Oddly enough I only disagree with one member, but still I don’t know if I will support them like I did IZ*ONE. I don’t think they will beat IZ*ONE at this point.

I don’t think anyone is 100% satisfied with final lineup, this isn’t new for idol shows and gets old, if anyone doesn’t like the lineup just don’t support the group. In all honesty the show was horrible in general, from the edits, and the voting system which was just bad and almost unfair of 50-50 votes and only one voting member at the end and the unfair treatment the chinese members had. All and all the final lineup i think it’s good, i personally not the biggest fan of bahiyyih, I don’t think she’s bad but like danny said she has the biggest fandom in the show she will bring love and popularity into the group, it’s just so sad for xiaoting to be so low and the only chinese member, honestly the whole chinese lineup got robbed 😂, either way let’s just hope the group change our thoughts.

Mesh

for me, im not really that devastated bout yurina. other than her visual, shes not that over the top. her singing is so-so, in fact more or less same level as bahiyyih. i mean just because bahiyyih is not the typical so called kpop beauty, that doesnt mean she doesnt deserved the spot in top 9. if its because of her brother than in this case, its the same like other kpop group that got so popular just because they debuted in top 3 company. just saying. btw, this is just the start. im sure other eliminated trainees will get to debut soon, for example like geonu and jimin debuted in justb.

Fmzzz

I’m just really happy youngeun and xiaoting made it but devastated about yurina

I watched the final ep live. Before the announcement of top 2, I even tweet "plot twist: bahiyyih was actually top 2" for fun. but delete it after a minute coz I got her name wrong, I put bayihhih or smtg. and then, it was announced that it's actually true! I was so shocked and confused because I thought that yurina/xiaoting or even suyeon was not called yet and there's only 1 spot left

Lea Kim

i think the group isnt ideal but its not bad either. yurina not getting in was the most upsetting for me and i think the last voting system was just really unfair to the foreign girls. the fact that out of 33 chinese girls only 1 ending up in the group and in the last rank at that is unfair

may el

no offence but tbh similar to what monika said to noze on swf episode 1: would Bahiyyih get this much attention and high popularity if it isn't because of her brother??? i really doubted this, it is true that she got the potential but I really cannot see any 스타성 on her...

VBBHV

This is why i believe Iland has the best way of elimination/selecting member, it's not all about popularity but the experts are taking a big part in making a team

cloud

If this show was based only on talent/skills, Bahiyyih would’ve been gone long time ago, but unfortunately it’s a popularity contest too, so I get that she’s here and even though I’m kinda pissed, I wish her the best. I just wish they’d keep the 3/3/3 ratio for the whole thing.

zbyndagram

I don't have a hate boner over Bahiyyih like some people out there(she's just a 17 year old girl chasing her dream like everyone else, stop sending her death threats you maniacs) - but if Yurina and Bahiyyih were swapped out(not necessarily in 2nd place but somewhere in the lineup) I would have been 100% satisfied. In the end 5/6 of my must-have picks debuted. I can't be TOO bitter about that. I do think the voting system was very flawed - it shouldn't have been 50% korean/50% global because the amount of people voting always changes and the more global people vote, the less each individual global's vote is worth, which sucks for us. They should have made it a set ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 (since there's usually 3-4x as many international voters than Korean) to create an ILLUSION of a chance that we could make a difference. And my other wish was that it would have been 6 members fan voted, and 3 members *show producer* picked. That way they can balance out the group with other talented people who didn't make it because we KNOW this is always a popularity contest. (*cough* KIM BORA, ANYONE???) As it is, I've accepted it and start moving on to supporting the group. As well as following all the former trainees I loved in hopes that they will still debut someday! Also, contrary to most people, I love the group name! I immediately understood what they were referencing and thought it was a great out of the box choice. It's unique and androgynous, so you can do any concept with that name. (Maybe I don't like the random number that much haha, but it makes searching for the group a lot easier!)

rockthekazb0t

I'm still crying over Yurina not makin it..
