like what Miss P highlighted, these english songs are acting like a trojan horse atm. Maybe they will have more bangtan style songs in english as they get familiar with the sound and the language.

Emma

I discovered BTS through Dynamite. As I got into them and listened to their discography, I fell in love with all their older songs. However, I wouldn't have known about their amazing Korean songs if they didn't promote in the US with a 'generic boy band' song. I think it's smart to bring in fans through radio-friendly music.

Miss P

Dynamite and butter are only two songs in there discography. It’s too small a number to consider them indicators of a major change in their musical sound.

Laura

Different songs have different goals. And that's ok. Butter is their best attempt at a Grammy. Go for it!

The after shows are too soon after the DK News

Laura

I like the idea of naming the company stan and cataloging content. But Pinkblood seems an odd name..

Sarah Padbury

i don't agree with English versions of most of those songs. the feel/sound of those songs are kpop and forcing them to be translated into English would just make them sound awkward. i'm fine with BTS releasing more English songs but i'm against destroying previous work just so that the American audience don't have to read subtitles.

i am so sad about zeze; she is so awesome! she treats all her guests with respect, both male and female. honestly all the males who associate everything with micropenis need to have their internet access taken away and given time out- they clearly can't be trusted to act like adults.

jeanbee

I agree with Danny's review of Butter. It's definitely superior to Dynamite, it does have more 'BTS' in it and it will have longevity. As for David's point yes I will love the general public to see the DOPE/Fire performances as well and I do think BH Music is listening and taking notes.

I am a relatively new BTS fan. I liked Fake Love without realising it was them or even Kpop. Heard in the gym first where the sound system was so bad that you just couldn't hear the words, I guess I've always thought of BTS as a boy band, and I don't see what's wrong with thinking them as that. I don't feel like I need a deeper reason to like them beyond that I like their music, their chemistry with each other, and their individual characters. I'm not too bothered if their songs have deeper meanings or not - if they do and they resonate with me, wonderful. If not, I just enjoy the music, the lyrics and the dance. I didn't like Dynamite because it was gramatically and syntactically rubbish. Drove me crazy, n I wanted to take strike off all the weird collocation of words and mixed metaphors. I like Butter a lot, lot more, love it even - I just think of it as an English version of Pied Piper (which I also like) where they boast of. how irresistable they are to Armys.

I think BTS is at a point in their careers where they feel comfortable with taking risks and trying out new genres and types of music. It’s one of the benefits of their level of success, they can afford to experiment, particularly if they are interested in maybe tapping into a new sound. Even with the older music, I tended to love songs that didn’t get radio play in any markets and never seemed to get MVs.😭 Why? Because I realize I seem to gravitate toward more R&B, hip hop, acoustic or songs with a heavy string background. It’s just what personally draws me in with any artist. Then there are other outlier songs that draw me in because they are either ear worms I can’t get out of my head or the visual of the MV make me a fan of the song. As they grow, BTS will change and that’s normal as musicians. Each of them individually have their own musical preferences and it’s pretty clear they are vastly different among the individual members. I support the exploration. I’m really curious as to what just may end up coming out of it. I have a strong feeling it will be good, solid, unique and sincere music that has the ability to stand the test of time. They just have to be given the time to work through that.

What do you think about the opinion (that I've seen a lot on the internet) that BTS lost their color because they are now releasing generic pop songs (Boy With Love, Dynamite, Butter) for western market and it's not BTS anymore? Personally I don't have a problem with those songs, it's business, of course they want to release songs that will sell. Western market accepts them only as another boy band and expecting such songs. And as pop singers I suppose they have their ambitions too, they want to chart well and be recognised. So why not? It's not like they started to release only commercial songs for radio, after Dynamite they had BE which didn't sound like something for charts at all. P.S. Also I think if they release another english song later, it will be in different style, because otherwise the audience will get tired of the same sound.

Nailya

That is a really good theory! I thought they had just matured and moved on from the bangers but I hope this is not the case. I miss old school BTS.

Caroline Song

I think BTS will continue on with the pattern of releasing one English single a couple months before the album, and then following it up with a Korean title track and album tracks. I think because Suga needed to get surgery they've been holding off on the super hype songs with insane choreography these past months while he recovers.

The most YT views for Butter M/V came from India for both Day one (12.5 M) and Day two (13.64 M). Though Indian market is not as financially lucrative as Japan or US, it has a massive population that is very receptive to global music trends. With China becoming increasingly hostile to KPop groups, do you think Korean entertainment companies will set their sights on India next? I think your channel did a short piece on this a while ago but the outlook was not very optimistic at that point, mainly because of low ticket costs in India. Do you feel things might have changed since then?

I love Butter now, but it did have to grow on me. It has strong boy band feels, which I'm not a fan of, and BTS's music never felt like boy band music to me. But like I said Butter grew on me, bc i feel more of its soul after listening alot, plus i love the rapping. But I do feel like BTS and HYBE "dumb down" to appeal to American Audiences, and I feel they're missing the mark by doing that. If they'd have the kind of lyrics in english that they have on their best songs, and the same quality melodies and production, they'd absolutely kill it and get soooo many more fans and more respect, too. That's why DOPE was the entryway song for starting to get BTS hyper popular in the US. We need another DOPE or FIRE, super catchy and also really energetic, that's radio friendly but also captures that badass American spirit.

Charlotte Keith

100% agree with David too! Right after I listened to Butter for the first time (which is growing on me, but I didn’t really love at first...still supported anyway of course!) I went back to listen to Fire. I have been sleeping under a rock until Sept 2020, so I’m new to BTS, but caught up pretty quickly while stuck at home. What about English versions of Fire, Dope, Boy in Luv, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Not Today, Magic Shop, etc etc. like a special repackage? Too much like “selling out”? Or a double album like Shakira did with Oral Fixation (English and Spanish versions of the songs)

Lisa G

also Pinkblood- my first reaction was that it was a female SuperM. since they started uploading to the tiktok, it does seem like a fandom name or a community name for SM stans. I think SM and YG have the most defined “sound” and style so I can see why if you like one SM or YG group you would likely follow their other groups as well. JYP and BigHit don’t feel as defined culture or sound wise.

Eri

They still do bangers: Dionysus, ON, Ugh! They just don’t release them to the US market for promotion. ON and Idol both did nothing in the US as far as radio. ON might have done better if there was no corona but probably not (even though it is SO freaking good). I think BTS is doing the smart thing and responding to the market.

Eri

Agree with David 100% about wanting another "Fire" or "Dope." I miss the bangers.
