Emily set her blanket down and looked up at the darkening sky. “They say the show will be a real bang this year.”
“Is that why you dragged me out for fireworks? You know how I feel about these things.” Hope stretched her arms and reached for her book.
“Oh, come now.” Emily smiled and turned towards her friend. “It is going to be a fun night with some fun sky artwork.”
Hope rolled her eyes. “There is no such thing as sky artwork.”
Emily lay down on the ground. “Oh, come now. Have you really never heard of people writing stuff like I love you or drawing hearts in the sky? Well, if you haven’t, this will be the most extreme thing you have ever seen in your life.” She giggled.
Hope buried her face into her book. “You know I am not into those kinds of things. I only came out here because I wanted to spend the night with you.” She put an ear plug in. “Now, please, I am trying to catch up on this. My book club is meeting in a few days, and they will kill me if I don’t finish this.” She turned on a headlamp.
Emily giggled. “Oh, don’t worry. I am sure you will get a lot of reading done.” There was another reason why she wanted Hope to come out here tonight. She knew the people who were running the show and had worked something out with them. There would be a special surprise for Hope when the fireworks went off. Emily would be able to enjoy it, too, but she would love to see the look on her friend’s face when it started happening. Besides, it would all be worth it after the trouble she had to go through with spiking their dinner with growth hormones. Hope was very suspicious, with Emily suddenly becoming interested in the cooking process.
“So, when can we go home?”
“You are already asking that?”
Hope turned the page in her book. “I have never been to something like this. I don’t really get the point.”
“The point is to watch flashy fireworks and enjoy yourself. Shesh.” Emily crossed her arms. “Can’t you just do anything other than pour your head into a book?” Hope looked up for a moment with an annoyed look. “I am sorry. But the show should start very soon so please try and enjoy it. We all worked very hard to bring it to life.”
“We? What did you do?”
Emily smiled. “I put in a little extra contribution. You will love it.” She turned her head. “Shhh, the show is starting.”
A middle-aged man walked onto a stage about fifty yards away from them. “Hello, everyone, and thank you for coming to this Fourth of July celebration. This year will be the best yet as we have poured our love and joy into this selection of fireworks. I hope you all enjoy it. Let’s get into it.” He turned around. “Okay, let’s light her up.”

Emily turned the page in her book as she hoped her earbuds would be enough to block out the sounds of the explosions. She had come here for her friend, but truth be told, she hated fireworks. They were loud and obnoxious. Still, part of them had a pretty charm. So, as the first firework rose into the air, she couldn’t help but look up; she had her ear protection in, after all. It flew higher and higher before exploding with a loud BOOM!
As soon as it did, she felt a strange warmth surge through her, and her shirt suddenly tightened. “Huh?” She looked down, dropping her book in the process as she realized her boobs had grown a cup size. “What the hell?”
“Everything okay, Hope?”
Hope covered her chest, her cheeks turning bright red. “Oh, nothing. Nothing at all.” She gulped as her nipples hardened and rubbed against her arms. “I just . . . the fireworks boom caught me off guard.”
Emily smiled. “Well, maybe you should force those earplugs in further.”
Hope forced a smile. “Yeah. Sure.” As Emily looked back up at the sky Hope instead looked down at her chest. “What the fucking hell? Why are my fucking boobs so big?” She gulped. “I need to get out of—”
BOOM!
She moaned, almost falling forward as her butt swelled. “Ahhhh!”
“What is wrong?” Emily held out her hand. “You cried out.” BOOM!
Hope suddenly grew a foot as another firework went off, blinking her eyes as she was pulled onto her knees. “I don’t know.”
Emily giggled. “Ahh, so it is working.”
