Holy Motown! I didn't realize King Gnu also did Specialz until you pointed it out! Hell yeah that's an impressive range!

Love that you guys are enjoying this show! It’s a special one. Some assorted thoughts: - The OP, Boy by King Gnu, is by the same group as the JJK “you are my special” intro! Interesting range! - Y’all do great and no one asked but here’s a lil Japanese pronunciation guide from a weeb: little shadow guy’s name, Kage, is pronounced something like Kah-geh or Kah-gey, with a hard G (Like Gojo or Geto from JJK). It means “shadow” in Japanese. When transliterated into English, Japanese is pretty simple to sound out because letters are almost always pronounced the same. Once you figure out the vowel sounds you’re 90% there. A =“ah”, I = “ee”, U = “oo”, E = “eh/ey”, etc. …All that said, I don’t think that’ll help much for shows like this where most of the proper nouns aren’t Japanese lol (Kage being the exception). - Love love love the art. Like y’all say, it’s got a nice storybook watercolor look to it that is deceptively simple but that allows them to flex with the animation from time to time. Poor Bojji ugly-crying through his bandages is so good 😭 When going through the show myself, I had to rewatch some of these early episodes because I had forgotten what the deal was with a lot of the side characters, like Apeas the spear guy who stops the fight in this episode. They’re all more complicated than they seem and the show trusts you to question stuff like changing motives yourself. One too many times saying to myself “Wait, I just had that character filed under ‘kinda a dick’??” and I just pulled up some reactions as a refresher lol. - The show kinda reminds me of Steven Universe (my favorite non-ATLA cartoon), mostly from the stuff that’d be too spoilery to explain or a bit too meta to get into yet. But just stuff we’ve seen so far: a good-natured kid with black curly hair who looks younger than he is inherits great responsibility from a giant, Very Important parent. He must come of age, adapt and come to terms with the reality of the situation his parent left behind for him while holding on to what makes him, him. Characters are deeper and messier than you’d think. Some throwaway details early on aren’t just cartoon logic but subtle world building. Also, a mother-figure has a pointy nose. …Didn’t mean to get into essay-writing mode lol. Anyway, all that to say, glad yall are having fun with this one and lookin forward to more!

Oh man I am so happy you folks are digging this show. This is the best chrismas present ever!! When you all were talking about looking forward to this cutesy sweet show, I started tugging my collar like, "Eesh is it getting hot in here?" knowing what happens this episode haha. I can confirm that Bojji and Daida do have the same dad. Which like...whatever I think of Queen Hilling as a person, I've got mad respect for actually being able to conceive a child with King Bosse, a literal giant. It isn't ever stated in the show, but Bojji is somewhere around 14 or 15 years old, he is just suuuuuuper tiny. He's the older of the two Princes. From the perspective of the rank and file soldier who came to watch the prince fight, it looked like Bojji was toying with Daida. They didn't understand that Bojji lacks the physical strength to do any damage to his opponent. To them, it looked like Bojji was counting coup. Like, "Hey I can beat you at any time, but in gonna embarrass you in front of everyone." Which, obviously wasn't the case but due to the optics Bebin(snake guy) said that even if he did win it would look to the soldiers like he won by cheating. That's why Domas told Bojji he had to exchange blows with his opponent. In his mind, the king has to lead by example and has to be a pillar of strength for the people. We're getting into some complex character motivations which is like the crowning jewel of this show.
