We're back in the FINAL EPISODE OF the controversial but ultimately rewarding Season 2 of The Legend of Korra and it's evil spirits and KORRA KAIJU FIGHTS AND ALL KINDS OF CRAZINESS!
Why is it when you meet your Avatar State figure you always look super angry?!
Was PURPLE DADDY UNALAQ, who just wanted to combat climate change, into getting his ass handed to him by A GIIIIIIIIANT WOMAN!
And we finally see that we ARE ALL PEMA watching this insane Kaiju fight go down on the Chicago Lakefront and how INSANE THAT WOULD BE!
So, as per USUAL, we'll be taking a one-week break in the Korra rollouts to get everything propped for S3, which we've cracked into a decent amount of episodes and ARE LOVING!!
We'll make a separate announcement on a different post, but we hit our goal and we're gonna rock 2 episodes of Attack on Titan a week! So we'll have a bevy of stuff dropping before we fire back up! Commentary Track for Batman Begins, Cobra Kai, Witcher S2 dropping tomorrow, BvE polls and pods, and a new Shitty Movie Night! All dropping within this next week!
xoxo,

The best way to think about it, when they became the Giant Spirit monster, it essentially became a permanent Avatar State. So when he "died", it ended that cycle before it could even begin.

Nah, died while Vaatu was in control. No reincarnation, he'll grow inside Raava.

Actually, because Vaatu bonded with a human soul, by all logic he would he would be forced into reincarnation like the avatar, Only since the person he bonded to only knew water bending he'd be born within the water tribe.

humans were venturing out to find food... others could have been going to the spirit world. especially airnomads, who were shown to live together with spirits way back then.

just as Raava had started growing within Vaatu, Vaatu is now growing within Raava. But only during the next harmonic convergence does he have a chance to re-emerge.

basically vaatu can die/dissolve but he'll just return after 10,000 years. that's what they mean when they say that vaatu/ravaa will never die.

Made me sad but its also bold, made sense for Korra to stand on her own two feet. Have to agree, season 3 was my favourite. They really found their rhythm and a lot of character growth comes full circle.

Season 3 is gonna be amazing.
Also, if i remember correctly (I'm watching this the first time as you so I'm not an expert), I think they said even if the Kite spirits killed each other, the one that died will return but it will be like thousands of years later.
Lastly, a LOT of people got mad when they killed of Korra's connection to the past avatars. I'm personally okay with it because I found it quite a good tragedy, twist and change-up. I really get that people are greiving over that tho. I think i was only fine with because the past avatar I only really loved and devastated of possibly not seeing again is Avatar Kioshi.

Nah, the Dark Avatar was essentially killed in the Avatar State by Korra's spiritbending, so he won't reincarnate. Next time we see Vaatu he'll be regrowing inside the Avatar(which could be a cool situation with the Avatar having a sort of "devil and angel on the shoulder").

No, because Vaatu is trapped and the 'light' avatar is only reincarnated because Raava 'possesses' a new person.

Oooo interesting thought yeah! I wonder if the spirit bending korra did negates that or if that’s a possibility? Would be a cool story line.

Yeah. Jinora essentially just jump-started the process with a light spirit(the butterfly) so that Raava regrew faster than she would have normally.

OK, just realized something, and it might be nothing.... BUT,
When the "New Dark Avatar" was taken out, does that mean somewhere in the world a baby was just born who would be the next Dark Avatar ?
Breaking apart into golden light is exactly what happened to the Wan/Raava spirit when Wan died, and then the next avatar was born.
It REALLY feels like that was an open possibility here.

Pretty sure they said that Raava was only holding the elements until Wan mastered them, which could suggest that he was holding them after that point ?

How many people in republic city do you think developed a new fetish or two watching a giant blue lady fighting a monster who keeps holding her back with tentacles?

I think I like Season 2 more than most (and given the production issues and executive meddling it's a miracle it was as good as it was or got made at all), but I'm hyped for you folks getting into Season 3. My controversial Avatar opinion is that while Avatar: TLA works better on the whole, Korra S3 is the best single season out of both shows!

everyone's talkin about the Kaiju fight stuff (which is cringe and I dislike it), but one thing I thought to clear up is about the bending.
Once Korra had Raava removed from her, it likely removed her ability to use Firebending, Earthbending, and Airbending. You can figure this because when Wan is learning to bend the elements, Raava is the one who holds the ability to bend more than one element. Breaking her connection to Raava broke her connection to the other elements temporarily.
And if I'm somehow wrong about that, then that's just another issue to add to the list for Season 2 :P
However, given that the worst of the show is still enjoyable, it just shows how high the bar is for the franchise.

Season 3 is my favorite! Season 2 is the worst season out of the whole Avatar series including Last Airbender.

A lot of people have already explained what Jinora did but for more clarity on where Vaatu is... well he's kind of gone. Because Unalaq and Vaatu were fused, when Korra did her Spiritbending on them, it killed Unalaq so he's done. But Vaatu is gone until the next Harmonic Convergence. So in the span of 10,000 years, he will slowly build up inside of Raava until he emerges from her. Same thing happens if Raava is killed. But Vaatu will not be a threat for quite a while. I know this season was rushed and this finale didn't explain everything, but I still enjoy it for the limited time they had. And Korra even before book 3, seems much more mature than she was before she lost her memory. At least more thoughtful for sure.

[Wan] "If you and Vaatu have the same fight every ten thousand years, why hasn't one of you destroyed the other?"
[Raava] "He cannot destroy light any more than I can destroy darkness. One cannot exist without the other. Even if I defeat Vaatu in this encounter, darkness will grow inside me until he emerges again. The same will hold true if Vaatu defeats me."
When giant spirit Korra was emerging, they played the line from the beginning of the series when Unalaq said "Find the light in the dark", which is what Korra was trying to do when trying to get something out of Una-Vaatu's chest, trying to find the light spirit but wasn't able to. Jinora comes in and essentially pings the light spirit so Korra can get her back.

Yeah wasn’t it because Jinora was in touch with her inner light?I thought it was supposed to be “looking for the light in the dark” and that’s why Raava became visible to korra again. Jinora shed a light in the dark - aka Vatuu- and allowed Raava to be seen again.

Convenient Tenzin Tree of Time knowledge is convenient. How did the ancients ever meditate there if Vaatu has been imprisoned in it since before humans left their turtles? Still love the show though, plot holes and all

Regarding where Vatuu went: They already explained that actually, he will regrow inside Raava, but it will take thousands of years. Raava said thats what would happen to her if she was "destroyed", she would just regrow inside Vaatu.

I always found Mako in general not to be as interesting or likeable as the other main characters, at least in books 1 & 2. I find it telling that Korra got along much much better with Asami, the girl she tried to dislike, than with the guy she supposedly had a crush on.

Finally the relationship with the worst chemistry ever mercifully breaks up. It always annoys me how Korra fell for Mako with 0 buildup. He was a jerk to her throughout his debut episode yet Korra found that hot? Korra always struck me as being better than that. I do not know how a lame guy like Mako landed Asami AND Korra. But other than that I overall enjoy this season despite it's flaws. But now the 2 best seasons of the show are near.
