A heartbreaking day (Page 5)
Added 2021-07-06 16:00:08 +0000 UTCMom and dad are talking to Mar right now, and I don't know what it's specifically about. They won't let me listen in, which means it's probably about me. Mom sure wasn't happy that Mar allowed me to play with my magic. Mom and Dad argued about it for a while. Mar has taken me out of the house to get me away from the tense atmosphere. I've never heard them speak to each other like that. Hopefully, they'll be done before they say anything that they can't take back.
Mar and I are walking around the woods right now, enjoying nature. He can see my frustration on my face. "Don't worry about your parents, Cera. They are talking right now, and we can't be a distraction for their important discussion." We walk until we reach my favorite stream. It comes off the hot spring up the hill a little ways. So it's always warm.
I dip my hands in, and I can smell the slight stench of sulfur coming from the hot spring run-off into this stream. "They're arguing about me... I know it's because of my magic..." I'm not an idiot, and I understand what's going on. Mar sighs and kneels down in front of me. Driving a wedge in my family... I hate it... I shouldn't have read that diary.
He makes sure I'm not looking at the ground, and I'm looking at him. "You're a very special boy Cera... Your magic isn't normal. It's very powerful and unique, so they are talking about what to do about you." I thought everyone would be happy that I can use magic. I'm grateful Mar is honest with me.
I think back to the diary, and I regret ever reading it. Everything would be fine if I never opened it. "I shouldn't have read the diary... All it's caused it nothing but problems..." I shouldn't have lied to mom and dad about the diary. Now that Mar knows, he is definitely going to be asking about it.
He stands up and looks at me sternly. "What is this diary you speak of? Your mother mentioned you found a book." I guess Mom knew about it. I always couldn't keep my secrets from her.
I only know a little bit about it, and maybe he can help with anything. "It's a diary that I got from the merchant that dad saved. His name is Gaunter O'Dimm." The look he gave me was one of slight fear. I guess he knows who Gaunter is too. I don't know why he would make a face like that though.
He holds out his hand. "May I see the diary, Cera? I promise to give it back." I pull it out of my pack, and I hand it to him. Gaunter said only I can read it.
He sighs in frustration and looks at me. "What can you tell me about this diary, Cera? Who did it belong to and what's written inside?" Gaunter said I had to keep it a secret from my mom and dad, which has led to this situation. Telling Mar won't lead to anything that hasn't already happened.
I've read multiple times the owner of this diary was Lara Dorren. "Lara Dorren, she was the owner of this diary. Gaunter gave it to me saying he found it in his travels hoping he could find a use for it one day." He looks absolutely stunned by what I said.
He looks at the diary once more, then he looks back at me. Looking for me to finish. "Lara wrote about how to use magic. That diary taught me how to teleport. I didn't know it would be such a burden." He looks at me with a look as if he got the last piece of the puzzle.
~~~(POV Mar)~~~
This has put so many pieces to the puzzle together. I should have known something more was going on when I first met Master Mirror in Vizima, asking me to come here. To help my old friend Alexander. I'm unsure of how to approach this. I hand the book back to Cera and he puts it back in the pouch.
With Nilfgaard and The Northern Kingdoms on the brink of total war it doesn't surprise me that Cera has been born. I'm unsure of his destiny, but he is a major player in the future of our world. An existence like his isn't here for no reason at all. His fate is going to change the world.
All of a sudden there is a deathly cold chill coming through the area and some of the place freezes. I look to Cera and see he is cold as well. I have no idea why this is happening.
Perhaps it would be best to head back to the house. "Come, Cera. We are heading back this instant." This is not a natural frost. I have a bad feeling about this, the last time I heard of this happening villages were burned and innocent people were slaughtered.
We begin to walk back and notice the cold gets worse and worse. Something is definitely happening right now. Alex and Lillian would want me to keep Cera safe so I should keep him close for now. I don't know what's going on right now.
~~~(POV Alexander)~~~
[15 minute's later]
My wife and I are in a terrible spat about our son. Who would have thought this was going to be the first big argument we have in our 9 years of marriage. I am trying to calm her down.
She is too hysterical thinking about the fate of our son. "WHAT HAPPENS IF HE DIES, ALEX!!!! WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH HERE!!! I WILL NOT LOSE HIM BECAUSE OF THIS SHIT!!! I REFUSE TO LET HIM CONTINUE!!!" Her words cut me deep, but I also have no idea of what to do.
I never learned how to handle this situation from what my dad taught me growing up. "I'm just suggesting that we let him keep using them so he won't lose control at some point. If I weren't positive that Mar could help in that, I wouldn't have asked. It's not like he is being taken away from us. He'll remain here while he trains." He will remain here while he trains so we can watch over him. I'm scared too, but someone has to be the voice of reason here.
I watch fury spread over the face of my wife. "That isn't the point, Alex!!! With what Mar told us, he is already in great danger just being alive!!! How are we suppose to protect him if everyone in the world wants him!!!" I'm glad she isn't screaming anymore. She brings up a valid point. If people in high positions found out about him, we'll lose him to people we can't stop.
Mar has many ideas to help us, and listening to him seems like the best idea. "Mar said he had a sorceress college that can help hide Cera. That way he wont be in any danger while he trains here." She looks at me with apprehension. I'm getting tired of magic and people who can use magic.
She takes a breath to calm down, and she looks at me with red puffy eyes from crying. "Okay, but we have to always be watching him. I don't want a single hair on his head hurt... I hate magic..." I chuckle as I hug her. I wouldn't disagree either, he is what is most important. I'm proud that my son is powerful, but this is a fathers worst nightmare.
*POP*
*HUUUUMMMMM*
I hear a noise. Followed large and heavy footsteps. The area freezes and the snow starts to appear out of nowhere. I hear a deep voice call out to us as the noise stops. The deepness and demonic sound shivers me to the bone.
I hope this is just a bad dream at this point. "Whoever is inside the hut, come out, and we wont burn it down!!!" A deep and distorted voice orders us out. My wife looks at me with fear and I grab my sword. I'm a capable fighter but from the sound of him. He is powerful, and there is more than one out there. As long as Cera isn't here, then everything will be fine.
~~~(POV Eredin)~~~
I just finished calling out to the house. The door opens, and two people come out, a man and a woman. I can see the fear as they look at my soldiers and me. Good, this will be easier than I thought. People like this are easy to get the things I want. I can feel the power of the boy nearby.
His abilities are blossoming, and I'm impressed by what I feel. "What do you want? We are just poor farmers living in this forest. What could we have that you would want?" He looks so much like Amavet.
The woman is also very similar to Lara Dorren herself. "I don't like it when I'm lied to, human... You know exactly what I want. Where is the boy? If you tell me, I'll let you live." As soon as I finish saying that, the woman looks at me with hatred and fear. It seems these are the boy's parents.
They are definitely descendants of the traitor Lara. "I have no idea what you're talking about. My wife is infertile, she can't get pregnant. Please leave us alone." How pitiful, It seems we have to do this the hard way.
If he knew that I can sense magic power with my limited magic abilities than he wouldn't have said something stupid. "I was hoping this would be easy. However, I'm glad it turned out this way. I can take my time getting what I need from you, humans." I hear the bushes shuffling behind my soldiers and me. I turn and see a young boy and an old man.
The power he has is incredible. He will do perfectly for my plans. "Well, it seems you won't be tortured. The boy has come just in time. You're lucky for that. I'll make it quick and painless." When I take a good look at him, he looks as if Lara herself had given birth to him instead of the women over there. I can feel his fear at the sight of me, he also has a human mage guarding him at the moment.
~~~(POV Cera)~~~
I part the bushes and look at what is in front of me. Mar immediately puts his hand on my shoulder. I see tall, heavily armored soldiers. I hear the man say that I had come just in time.
My heart is racing, and I look to my parents. "Mommy, what's going on!?!" She looks at me with tears in her eyes. I've never seen her cry before. Something bad is happening, isn't it... The longer I look at them, the bigger my need to run gets. I can't leave my parents, though.
I won't let them die from these creatures. "I need you to listen to me, honey. I want you to run away. Run as fast and as far as you can, okay?" I'm really scared right now. I don't know if I can even move.
I hear a lady's voice in my head. 'Save them, my child. Use your power and save them. I know that you can, don't be afraid and use all of it. Just let go and stop holding back.' The voice tells me inside my head.
I take a shaky breath and close my eyes. 'Who are you? Tell me how I can save my parents. Please, I don't want them to die. They're all I have.' I need all the help I can get right now.
I've heard this voice in my dreams before. 'It's okay, my child. I was scared to, the first time I used my power to save someone I loved. It's okay. Just stop holding back and save them. You will be fine, I promise.' I hear the lady say again. I need to listen if I want my parents to live. I know they will die if I don't do something.
I use my power to teleport Mar and me behind Mom and Dad. I try to use my power again to get us out of here, but it wont work, its like something is holding me back.
I hear the voice again, and I don't like what I hear. 'Use your power to send them back. It's the only way to truly escape them right now. If you don't, your parents will die.' The voice says to me. It's already too late. They're advancing on us. Mar starts throwing magic, the guy with the staff is stopping it.
I look to my father, and he is fighting them off with his sword. My mother is holding me tightly and crying into my hair. I look again and see Mar get killed by a massive man with a shield and mace. I want to throw up, but I can't. I am too scared.
My father turns to see Mar, dead. "Nooo!!! God damn it!! You'll pay for that!!!" Mar took out some soldiers, but there are just to many. Soon, he is overwhelmed too. I watch as his head roll's to the ground and I hear my mother cry out. I start to cry as I see my dead dad's head on the ground.
My mom pulls a knife out of her boot and charges one soldier killing him, but is impaled through the back by another with a sword. My parents are dead. I can't believe it. They are gone, and I'm next.
Please, I want my Mommy! "Bring me the boy. We're leaving." I hear the man give his command to the soldiers. My fear grows as they get closer and closer. I have a feeling I've never felt before.
A feeling of wanting to kill all of those here for taking away my parents. "NOOOO!!!! I WANT MY MOMMY!!! I WANT HER BACK!!!!" I scream as I feel an extreme amount of power build within me. I don't know what's happening too me, it feels like the my body is shaking apart.
~~~(POV Eredin)~~~
The boy is releasing pained howls for his mother. How amusing. To think it was this easy. I can't wait to see the look on Avallac'hs face. He wants to capture the girl, but this child is far more powerful. Suddenly, in his wailing, a pillar of green light explodes from him. The area around him has cracks in space.
Soon my soldiers are being sucked into the light, never to return. "CARANTHIR!! GET US OUT OF HERE BEFORE WE DIE!!!" He opens a portal, and we jump through. We're the only ones that made it.
I look back and see the portal shatter in green light. "Can you open a way back?" I can't let this boy escape. This is the only opportunity I have, according to the sage.
He told me I wouldn't have another one for many years. "No, he has destroyed the fabric of space in that area. In time, it will repair its self, but he will be long gone before then." Well, that went horribly. I should have expected the child of Lara Dorren to give me problems.
~~~(POV Cera)~~~
After I open my eyes, I notice all the soldiers are gone, and so are my parent's bodies. Everything is gone. Our house, our crops, even the surrounding trees have been uprooted from their spots and are gone.
I hear the lady again. 'You did well, my child. You make the name Dorren proud. I'm sorry about your parents, but you will heal in time. There could be no other way. Now you will become what you need to be.' I hear the voice before I fall asleep from exhaustion.
~~[Couple of hours later]~~
*VVVZZZZ*
~~~(POV Yennefer of Vengerberg)~~~
I look around and see the devastation. It seems I didn't arrive in time. Mar sent an emergency message through magic not long ago. I look into the small crater and see a child. Space is distorted here.
I need to hurry before my portal closes. "You must be the Cera I've heard all about." So he caused all this damage. Mar did say he was blessed with incredible power. I can sense it coming off him. Funny, it feels a lot like Ciri's, except it's multiplied several times over. They should only be a couple months apart in age. I can tell he is asleep from using that much power.
I pick him up and start walking towards the portal. "You poor boy... I don't know what I'm going to do with you, but you're coming with me for now." Losing your parents like this is heartbreaking.
I cast a dreams spell on him so he doesn't have nightmare's about this. "I'll be taking you to Kaer Morhen. It's the safest place I know and you will have allies there. It's winter, so all the Witchers are there. Along with Ciri training with Geralt. Hopefully, this will help." I walk through the portal and end up in Vizima where I casted it originally. I cast another and walk through it. I look around and see a bunch of snow and ice.
Then a huge bedroom. This is definitely Kaer Morhen. "Who's the kid?" Geralt asks me. As he looks at me a little funny. Like he has never seen me hold a child.
That is quite offensive, if I may say. "All I know is that he is like Ciri..." I say to him, answering his question. Mar told me about the child, but I never expected that.
He gets up fast and walks over. "How is that possible. I thought the Elder Blood was only usable by female descendants of Lara dorren?" He isn't wrong in thinking that, but things change. Who knows if that is true for Cera.
I recall his full name from Mar's messages, and it makes sense he has powers. "His name is Cera Riannon Dorren Amavet. A direct descendant of Lara, just like our little Ciri. They look quite alike if I may add. Mar told me that Ciri and Cera are very distant cousins. It'll be good for her to have family here." Ciri will be able to have a friend of her own age now.
This boy, however, what power he has... It's like I'm holding magic itself. Ciri is very powerful too, but not quite like this. This is going to be a problem. I cast shields on his power so others can't sense him. That should do it. Now we just have to wait till he wakes up.
