Discovering a new trick (Page 3)

My mom and dad have a guest over today. The last time we had a guest over was when Dad invited an old friend. The man could use magic too, but I can hardly remember what he looked like. The guest was saying he is a merchant of mirrors. I haven't been to a city or village before, so his tales about them are amazing. His name is Gaunter O'Dimm. Dad saved him from monster's a couple of days ago.

I always like it when the mage's come to our home. They use magic and cast spells on the property. I get to see a rare world when they stop by. They were here yesterday for a couple of hours after we woke up. I got to spend time with Gaunter. He knew a lot of things I never heard before. He was even telling me how he has made deals with kings and emperors. Gaunter seems like he knows a lot of important people.

He was asking weird questions about what I know of my family. I don't know anything. I told him what Dad always told me. I was a descendant of the Aen Elle. I've never heard anyone use those words before or what they mean. My families origin's are a mystery, but I guess it doesn't matter right now.

Gaunter gave me a book after our talk, he told me it was a special book that is one-of-a-kind. It didn't have a title, and he said only I would be able to read it. He said never to tell my parents. After reading it for a little bit, I learned that this was the diary of a lady named Lara Dorren. Strange how he gave me a diary with a woman who has one of the same surnames as me. I asked him where he found it, and he said he found it in his travels. That he was holding onto it until he found a use for it.

What I've been reading in the diary are things I've never heard of. A place called Tir Na Lia and Lara's life there. She wrote about the strange dreams she had, and they matched up with some of mine, which is weird. She also explained she had a power no one else had. She called it Elder Blood. It gave her powers and magic unique to her. The diary even tells me how she learned to channel magic.

I've always wanted to try magic. With instructions like these, I can probably do something. I'm worried about what my mom when I was little. She thinks magic is dangerous, and when I asked if I could ever learn to use it, she grounded me for a week. I bothered her more than I should've, though. I want to try out what's written in this diary, but I have to run off and hide if I want to try anything.

Little did Cera know, he is trying to learn magic for his powerful bloodline.

Gaunter is very fond of staring out into the woods and whistling a nice melody. "I'm going out into the forest for some fresh air," He seems to really enjoy the outdoors. I really like them too. It gives me a time of silence and solitude. He is way more than I thought he was. I wonder if all the merchants out in the world are like him. If they are, the world must be an exciting place to see and be a part of.

He's been gone for a while, and now is the perfect time to sneak off. While mom and dad are busy, I sneak through my window with the diary in my possession. After a 10 minute walk, I stop and start to read it out loud. Mom said, you can remember something better if you hear it. I learned so much by using this method. It really helped me learn to read in the beginning.

I start on the first page and watch as the words on the paper transform into discernable words. "I've learned that by focusing my thoughts and feelings, I can use my power to move with teleportation as long as I can visualize where I want to be," I read from the diary. It seems like a cool ability to have. I have to focus my thoughts and feeling's on a place, and then I just teleport?

I close my eyes with the diary in hand and begin to think of a place I like near my home. I've always loved the hot spring's near here. I focus and focus, but nothing happens. I read some more of the diary, expecting to find answers. It hasn't failed me yet.

I read the answer after searching through the next couple of pages. "Channeling the magic is hard. I did it for the first time by remembering the feelings I have for my child and family. After a while, it became second nature, and it happens at a thought." Do I have to use my feelings for fuel? Man, this is tricky. It's like trying to learn to fight with a sword, but with my mind in place of arms. I wonder if magic is this hard for everyone.

I close my eyes again and use all the memories I have of mom and dad. I have a warm and fulfilling energy fill me. While the feeling remains, I think of the hot springs. I feel hollow and weightless, like I'm falling and not falling at the same time, and I feel myself move after a second of the sensation. I open my eyes too late to see what made me feel like that. I notice I'm not where I was anymore. I'm at the hot springs just as I imagined.

I get up excited, feeling the rush go through me, and I cheer out in happiness. "HAHA!!! I can do magic! I can do magic! I can't wait to show mom and dad!" Unbeknownst to the boy, a certain merchant is watching from a cliff nearby.

A smile grows on his face. "Well is seems fate has decided to bring you into this world, child of Lara Dorren. I can't wait to see what lie's in your future." The man known as Gaunter O'Dimm, master mirror, says to himself.

~~~Aen Elle in the city of Tir Na Lia~~~
A powerful sage open's his eyes after a concerning vision, a vision that his king will be surprised at. He head's to the king with speed unknown to sages. He bursts the doors to the meeting open.
The king is having with his council. "My king, I have seen a vision. Descendants of Lara Dorren and her power have been born. First a girl and then a few months later a boy." I tell my king and his council.
They exchange looks of doubt. However, the times in Tir Na Lia are hard and changing for everyone. Maybe this is the sign to do something. "How troubling, but what concerns me is why a boy has been born with the power? Male's don't inherit the power of Lara Dorren. How can you explain this?" The king says to me with a look of apprehension.
I would have a hard time believing it if I didn't have a clear vision of it. "The visions don't lie, my King. The boy and girl will have the same power as Lara Dorren. The boy, however, has a lot more potential than we have ever seen before. He is a better candidate than the girl." I say to my king, informing him of what I saw. We would use the girl to start the line again, but a male will do much better. He can produce 10 times more offspring when he comes of age.
I turn towards Eredin and see him smile widely. "Well, this is a perfect change of plan's isn't it? Instead of one Elder Blood user, we can get two. We can invade whoever and whenever we please. My king and comrades, this is the perfect time to strike" Eredin tries to rally the people in the room at his cause, and while we are desperate. It's the king's decision.
My king turn's to me and asks a question. "Can you locate the children?" I attempted to, but the girl is too weak right now, and the boy is being shielded by something.
A look of disappointment spreads across my face. They won't like this. "No, my king. The girl cannot be located, and a power is shielding the boy beyond our means of foresight. If the person or place protecting him was weakened or removed, we could find him easily." I have great confidence in my tracking abilities, but this is beyond me.
Tracking powerful space and time magic is a common trait in our navigators. However, the power shielding him is foreign to us. "Well, it seems we have to wait till time gives us an opportunity." He makes it sound like he is open to suggestions on how to proceed. Nobody except Eredin has put ideas forward. His ideas are rejected most of the time, and he hates that he's ignored.
~~~(POV of Cera)~~~

I use the magic to get back home. It took a couple of tries, but I got home safe and sound. I rush into my home, where mom and dad are sitting down. "Mom, guess what?" I'm overflowing with happiness right now.

I hope she will be excited as I am right now. "What is it, my light?" She looks at me with a smile. Dad also looks to be really happy, content with their lives.

Maybe they won't like the fact I can use magic. Mom hates it so much. Dad might be more supportive, though. I turn my attention to dad. "I can use magic!!!" I watch the amused look on his and moms face. Talk about irritating.

They look at each other and exchange smiles. "Well, isn't that wonderful, son. I'm sure you can tell us all about it tomorrow." He has a voice of sincerity and kindness mixed with a touch of amusement. I'm being dismissed right now, aren't I?

I get upset at their reactions. I get it. They don't believe that I can do magic or had the potential for it. Well then, seeing is believing, so I'll just show them.

I have a smile spread across my face, and I watch theirs grow in unison. "You don't believe me, do you? Well, then I'll just show you." I focus again, just as the diary taught me. I think of the spot next to them. A flash of light later, and I am right next to them.

The look's on their faces isn't what I thought I would be getting. "What's wrong, Mom? You look like your going to be sick." I look at dad and see he has the same face.

Mom rushes to me and grabs my shoulders. Making sure I'm completely okay. "Honey, where did you learn that?" She asks me as she is looking more worried than I've ever seen before. Gaunter said I couldn't tell them about the book because it's a secret.

I don't want to get into more trouble than I think I am already in. So lying it is. "I had dreams about it... Am I in trouble?" I'm hoping not to get punished, but that isn't out of the question yet. I can tell they believe that since they relax a little.

I hate that I have to lie, but I want to keep reading the book. "No... You just surprised us, is all..." My mom's voice is trembling as much as her body. She did tell me what she thought of magic.

I was hoping my situation would be different for her though. I'm her son, thought it might make it not so bad for her. "Alright, son, it's time for bed, ok?" My dad asks that in more of the direction of mom than me. He's looking just as worried as mom right now.

I really messed up, didn't I? I'll admit, this isn't the way I thought it'd go. "Ok," I say sadly, I want to show them some more, but they look as tired as I feel. Using magic make's me sleepy.

I head off to bed, and they tuck me in. After a while, I fall asleep, and dream of thing's I've never seen before. I see a beautiful city with lots of pointy-eared people. It must be the elves mom taught me about that live close by. The scene change's and I'm in front of a white freezing ball of light. All around is snow and ice. I think of something else, and I'm dreaming sweet nothing's now.

~~~(POV of Lillian)~~~
My heart is aching in pain right now. How could this even be possible? Neither of us can use magic. "I can't believe what I just saw," I voice my shock and my husband's face looks the way I feel.
I turn his head away from his bedroom door to look at me. "What are we going to do, Alex? We can't protect him from that." Tears begin to sting the corners of my eyes. I can't save my son from something I know nothing about, other than it's dangerous.
Alex wears a thinking expression, trying to find out a solution for this situation. "When Gaunter leave's for Nilfgaared tomorrow, I'll ask him if he can send some mages. They will know what to do." I have no choice but to listen.
It's the only option that we have right now. "I hope this doesn't put him in any danger... I've never seen or heard of magic like that," We head to our room together and have an extremely hard time falling asleep. It takes all my will not to bring out son into our room and make sure he doesn't go anywhere.
