It's always impressive getting a glimpse of the dude filming the skate video, riding along parallel on a skateboard (or sometimes rollerblades), maneuvering around the terrain while keeping the performer in frame and focus, and then managing to stop just a foot from the top of the flight of stairs or whatever. Unsung heroes. Anyway, how common were those top-handle record/zoom controls in other contemporary cameras? It seems like a real innovation in this era, opening up a lot more dynamic cinematography options without a full-blown Steadicam setup.
