LET'S WATCH: Pocahontas (1995)

WHOAAA surpriseeee 'y'all! Angie convinced me to sit down and watch the classic Pocahontas, which I have never actually seen! GORGEOUS FILM MY GOD! All of the painterly backgrounds had me gagged, and the music was wonderful and timeless. Let me know what else y'all might want me to watch by requesting it on the Discord channel. Pitch Perfect 3 is coming up next for this week, so stay tuned!

LET'S WATCH: Pocahontas (1995)

Comments

I loved the music

Melanie Nguyen

Can you please watch and review the Lorax movie!!! It has soooo many catchy songs!

Megan Turner

we do not speak of that travesty

Diane Finn

Yeah the older ones are more musical theaterrr

Mireille

My favorite musical Disney movie is The Princess and the Frog . This movie has its controversies too but the musical acts, for me, are at Aladin's level. Hope you watch some day Kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷

Mérope

As a native watching you watch this ..... Crazy lol. Yes lacrosse was invented by the Haudenosaunee people (Iroquois) they are also the world's oldest democracy. Pocahontas was 10 when the English arrived and she was kidnapped, taken to England and died there of disease

Carmen

Pocahontas 2? I don't know what you're saying, it doesn't even exist

napaulaon

troy you should watch hunchback of note dame. it’s so in the same vein as this movie with the music and beautiful animation. i swear that movie taught me what empathy and genocide were as a child. it’s so underrated but so excellent!!

Sarah Silvester

Pocahontas 2 is not a great movie, but it’s still worth a watch at least once.

Nicole Cochran

More disney plss

Nicole Valente

Pocahontas is my favorite Disney film, i cried so hard watching this lolllll

Salli

Can I hope for Tarzan next, even if you have seen it. It's one of my fave.

Cookiee

I mean supposedly Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492…. But the Virginia company sailed in 1607 lol

Shaunna Emmons

Please bring Angie on more for movie watches!! She always appreciates the right parts of what y’all watch

Cassidy Bot-Devire

This was a real treat! Thank you!

Sarah

Encanto soundtrack goes HARD but generally I agree the songs have fallen off since our childhood

Sarah

“Yeah that’s how years work” lmaoooo

Sarah

Angie’s right about the music — I think newer Disney movies are way more pop oriented. The songs in earlier movies felt more complex and tied more to their subject matter, by time or place. Definitely feels like there’s a one size fits all mentality nowadays.

Nikki

YES!! Not a musical but the most beautiful deep disney movies <3 i think he would love it

kuzu kay

The animation in Hunchback of Notre Dame is absolutely beautiful please put that on here

Mikaela Espinosa

I feel like you'll LOVE Brother Bear!! I feel like it's quite similar to Pocahontas in that it's astonishingly beautiful and impactful and has a really important message too. Honestly changed my life as a kid and I wouldn't have it any other way

Sophie Goldsmith

YES YES YES! There's no words to describe how much I love Brother Bear and how much it has stuck with me since childhood. Still to this day one of the most stunning, bitter-sweet, enchanting and impactful movies I've ever seen. I honestly think it will stay with me for my whole life

Sophie Goldsmith

I was hoping they would watch it after :( its one of my all time favs!

ellie

would LOVEEEE to see a reaction to The Hannah Montana Movie!!

Sarah G

Okay petition for Angie to join all the movie watches. I lovedddd this and The Sound of Music with you guys

kaylee davis

Hunchback of notre dame next? 😁

Caitlin Adamcik

You should watch Prince of Egypt. In my opinion one of the best movies of all time.

Nora Austeraa

Wait have you seen encanto?

jasmine alcaraz

I LOVE Pocahontas 2

Annabelle Beam

I hate that this version of the movie skips one of the best songs in my opinion "If i never knew you"

JustAgurl

this movie always makes me ugly cryyy, such a beautiful and important message and omg the VISUALS i cant

emtherainbow

Totally with you on the lack of more historical knowledge on my end. I am workin with what i remember but as always please shoot me references and points i missed, i love learning about real history.

hammy

Would love both of these too! I do think he should listen to more Beatles stuff before watching ATU though

Andrea Mata

Hey Troy, love you and your reactions! I'd recommend looking a bit more into the history/controversies in this movie (for instance both-sidesing a genocide, co-opting a real tragic historical figure, the way the Natives are portrayed, etc.). It is beautiful, and the songs are incredible, but it's definitely not perfect and some of your comments made me think you might not be the most aware of Native history - which is very fair, what you learn in school isn't ideal from my understanding.

Tabatha Weller

yeaaah

PALOMA

I cry every time I hear Pocahontas sing a song. They are so beautiful and her heritage and culture shine here. Please do more classic Disney reactions. You cry, I cry, we all cry ❤️

Danielle Sullivan

There's a second movie

Meeakz Luvsu

Please watch the Pocahontas movie cut song 'If I Never Knew You' it's so good!

Jess

We need to watch Tarzan and jam out to Phil Collins together. It’s a need

lauren

Omg thank you for giving me an excuse to watch this movie and sob during Colors of the Wind 🩷❤️

Margie Galdamez

PLEASE brother bear

Diana

omg, babygirl and his babygirl 🥰

Gabby Vázquez

And also Disneys Hercules if you haven’t seen that. It’s must watch

Lauren

Sticking with the Disney Princess theme… The Princess and The Frog & Tangled if you haven’t seen those 👀

Lauren

That song is gorgeous! I think the deleted scene is on my DVD version, so I need to go for a rewatch. I definitely had this soundtrack and listened to the Jon Secada/Shanice version repeatedly.

Rachael Amaro

You mean, the ORIGINAL and BEST version?!

Rachael Amaro

everyone collectively say THANK U ANGIE!!!! she knows whats good

Sierra

Why does this one and kpop demon hunters only have 720p 😭 what happened to 1080p?? I always cast these to my tv and now it’s so pixelated 😭

Elle

Please Watch Mulan

Debora Flores

Speaking of Christian Bale, we need to watch his version of Newsies!!!!

amyyruth

This is a gorgeous movie. And one of my favorite early disney ones. The messages are beautiful, and I find it most beautiful to think of it like a future dream, what could be possible for new generations. However, it's also important to know the true story, written by a white english man, about an indigenous child. Whom he stole from her home, and she died in her 20s, far away from everything she knew. Like so many indigenous women who were stolen and/or murdered, we have to keep telling their stories, and mourning that this story never happened. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/true-story-pocahontas-more-complicated-than-you-might-think-180962649/

Lee

Hard agree on Road to El Dorado. My favorite animated movie and the soundtrack is incredible!

FeralCowboy

Crying to Colors of the Wind is so real, I always tear up when I hear it

Ida Wallqvist

I wish I could post the screenshot but if you pause at 42:07 Troy and Angie are Meeko and Flit down to the color coordination...in case you need a Halloween costume idea 😅

FeralCowboy

FOREVER waiting on newsies (2017)!!!!!!!!!!

roddy

Should watch The Swan Princess!!

Rose Ellen

I cry every time. It’s so bittersweet and cathartic and beautiful and sad and wondrous and..ugh…one of the movies beautiful scenes of any Disney movie.

Meghan Gerhart

YES AND YES! Both movies are fantastic but the Hunchback of Notre Dame is brilliant and surprisingly underrated. The music and visuals are stunning and Disney really did NOT pull any punches when it came to interpreting the book. They changed a lot but I feel like it’s one of the only Disney movies that kids under 10 would probably be genuinely disturbed by, which is kinda badass. Frollo is also one of the most vile, evil Disney villains and he’s literally just a guy, no magic or anything. Just an awful, prejudiced white guy with way too much power who justifies his awful actions behind religious piety.

Meghan Gerhart

You can even hear a bit of his Australian accent peaking out at certain points (he moved to Australia when he was a kid and lived there quite a while so he has a soft Australian accent).

Meghan Gerhart

Yes! Gorgeous movie, stunning soundtrack. Hunchback of Notre Dame and Anastasia would some others I’d recommend. 👍

Meghan Gerhart

YES! SUCH a brilliant film, amazing soundtrack, and one of the most vile, evil Disney villains ever.

Meghan Gerhart

neeeeed you to watch hunchback of notre dame

jaala

if y'all liked this you will LOVE the prince of egypt

Mickey

OMG bringing it back to my childhood with one of my fave Disney movies! So fun to re-watch this with you both! Alan Menken's whole score of this is GOATed.

Lauren T.

Loved your reaction ;) I do have to say, as an Indigenous person, both sides are not equal in that song 'savages.' The Indigenous people are reacting to attacks against them, and one of their men had already been killed. They have had no evidence that the people who came and took without asking were going to be anything BUT violent and therefore were completely justified in responding to it. Also, Kocoum went into that rage because he saw John Smith as someone luring Pocahontas away potentially to hurt her. In the beginning when the medicine man explains the colonists - he describes them as "ravenous wolves devouring everything in their path" then it shows Kocoum react to it. and then Pocahontas best friend said "I think she's in trouble". That's who he saw John Smith as. Anywho classic Disney film - really underrated - even with all of its flaws it still gets the messaging right and the songs go HARD lol.

Kate

as a pocahontas baby, this makes me so happy. this is my comfort watch because in 1998 (when i first watched it on a VHS player), she was the only brown princess there was, and as a brown girl (in asia, not the US) it was profound for me to see someone with my skin color be a disney princess. thanks guys!

Marie Ravells

Cutest couple ever Also so glad you cried over Pocahontas ❤️ I’ve got a tattoo “sometimes the right path is not the easiest one” The songs The nostalgia The radicalisation from beautiful clear meaning 🍂 🍃

Gemma Bryan

Classic Disney songs sound like they belong in musicals - modern Disney sounds are trying to be a chart topper...and you can hear the difference!!!

Rose Ellen

I want road to Eldorado so bad now it’s just too good

zola ksiazek

Sara_VTSwiftie

I am fighting so hard for Tarzan. It is the greatest movie soundtrack and I will die on that hill - Leah

Leah ✨

I feel like we need these kinds of movies to show kids why /not/ to be an asshole.

Jujubeans

we need more content with Angie! <3

Eliana Fehler

PLEASE WATCH OLIVER AND COMPANY THE SOUNDTRACK IS BOMB

Marlayna White

okay, Ang coming at Troy for being illiterate had me gagged

Alex

we came for Troy stayed for Angie 🩷✨

cersain

you need to watch the og disney films as well! the ones that have the same kind of art like cinderella, sleeping beauty and princess and the frog

Orla

Would love for you and Angie to watch Over the Garden Wall together for fall- its a mini series with 15 (ish?) minute episodes adding up to like 2 hours, very cozy and slightly spooky wistful fall vibes.

kellyanne

a bunch of different tribes play it still, but i just shared the history of my tribe specifically

vee w

so they’re not playing lacrosse but stickball, actually! https://www.chickasaw.net/Our-Nation/Culture/Society/Stickball.aspx

vee w

Angie had me CACKLING in beginning 🤣 ps.. the Savages song these days is WILD

Alex

Please watch Tarzan. It has the best soundtrack in my opinion. Phil Collins did such a good job

Paige Whitmore

“They’re not British though, they sound Scottish” Troy omg 😭

Eloise

you should watch Brother Bear if you want a really, really good movie with story and music also with indigenous people

Kas Easton

troy, do you know anything about americas history? like im genuinely asking. columbus sailed from spain to the bahamas in 1492. we were colonized by england in the early 1600s. we revolted for freedom from uk in 1776. love the channel + so excited to finish this

Kayla Deyo

Tangled is the last good Disney Princess movie imo 😭 Nothing will capture that magic ever again

Dee Hollander

😂😂😂

hammy

omg yessss I love pocahontas!!

Joshua Manring

Lmao I love the chaotic intro I’m here for it 😂😂😂

Briana

LOVE an extra movie

Jeri Cutsforth

plssss watch The Cheetah Girls series 😭😭😭

Denielle Braxton

Also with Angie in the "new Disney just doesn't hit the same way" it just doesn't and it's also because there are no other good competing companies either, Spirit, thumbeline and Anastasia were my childood favorites and nothing hits the same anymore 😭 none of those were disney

Eevaliisa H.

Pocahontas radicalized me when I saw it as a 8 year old 🫠 I grew up on a farm 30km from the nearest store. I loved animals and nature and was horrified to learn not everyone thinks the same way.

Eevaliisa H.

YES ANGIE. thank you for making this happen

Kristen

I have seen bits and pieces of the movie but not in it's entirety, so it was nice to finally sit down and watch it with you guys! As someone who was born and raised in Virginia, I have been to James Town several times, it is right near Bush Gardens Williamsburg. At James Town, they talk more about the settlement but I would have loved to learn about the Native Americans that were there before. Also, the James River is beautiful, just like all the rivers in this movie. Also they mentioned, the Chickahominy Tribe in the movie (another Algonquian Tribe that was near the Powhatan Tribe). It reminded me of this breakfast spot in Williamsburg called, "The Chickhominy House" that my family and I used to go to, they had delicious food! Last thing I wanted to mention. I noticed that John Smith didn't have an accent from the UK. I wonder why they gave him an "American Accent". I know Mel Gibson is American, so that makes sense but I wonder if it's because John Smith's character is like the middle ground between both sides and they gave him an accent that was between Native Algonquian Language and British English? I don't know, it's interesting to think about.

Marcella Thaler

Omg! Could we please see you both watch Princess and the Frog or Moana! Truly two of favs! 🫡

Kristi

heavyyyy on this!!! also spirit!

christine.ro

not Angie doing the Draco Malfoy reference at the end 😂

christine.ro

i’ve never seen this either OMG

khushi04

I feel like you’d both vibe really hard with both Anastasia and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Incredible music, lovely animations.

Mateklof

The ending with Pocahontas running with the wind as the orchestration and chorus come together hits something in my soul ❤️ Definitely cry so much more watching this now.

Emily Contreras

I love watching movies with you guys ❤️❤️

Catherine Canizalez

i LOOOOVE pocahontas dudeee its been YEARS I forgot how beautiful it is, you guys should absolutely watch more disney movies. my personal favs were tangled (rapunzel) and brave (merida)

Calli f.

Can you both watch Anastasia pretty please?🥹🥹🥹

Morgan Davis

the link is posted in the “june stream schedule” post on patreon! here’s the link: https://www.patreon.com/posts/130450286?utm_campaign=postshare_fan

Jasmine Gardner

It’s a crime that Disney took out “if I ever knew you” from the streaming version. There is a whole scene of John Smith singing it to Pocahontas while he’s tied up in the tent

Logan S

SCREAAAAAMING

Marizka Cremer

she’s so right that they don’t make music like this anymore😭 i think the newer movies makes songs similar to radio hits rather than actually make songs that fit the style of the movie. we need to bring back full bands and orchestras for movie soundtracks!!!!

arianna

NEED you guys to react to the movie version of "If I Never Knew You," it was only used for the 10th anniversary addition but it's the best song in the whole movie

Brooke Dreier

angie can ur husband fight? 🤺🤺🤺

Ruby LaFrance

Troy i LOVE your reactions and watching you watch my favorite movies and listening to my favorite music feels like sharing something i love with another person. Thank you so much for doing this.

Megs

When I saw this post I said out loud: "WHAT YES WOO I AM WATCHING THIS NOW!!!" So exciteddddddd<3

Joslyn

So fun! Can someone post the link to the discord? I’ve been a member for months and haven’t seen a way to join it.

Hannah Jo Smithheart

i haven't finished the video so i don't know if this is eventually going to come up, but the music in this was written by stephen schwarts, who also wrote wicked and the prince of egypt. he won an oscar for colours of the wind!

Lauryn Goates

I also always cry when I hear “Colors of the Wind”. The message of it all and I just think about my ancestors (I’m native, black, and white) and what they must have experienced before colonization. The beauty of the earth. I know America gets its shit but we have such a beautiful natural landscape. The wonders of this earth are beautiful and capitalism and racism is killing it 😔

Cierra

Thank god for Angie who points out obvious things to Troy lol

SFM

I hope this means we're getting more classics!! Brother Bear is soooo good!!!!

Sara Karpen

i love that troye is like "watching pocahontas (1995) but shaking my head the entire time so everyone knows i don't agree with the virginia company and the colonisation of the americas"
