The music is probably the most pop-sounding I’ve heard in a musical yet and the songs definitely hit that addictive muscle in my brain. The story still felt key to me though and the actors Hugh Jackman Zendaya, and Zac Efron, as well as the rest of the cast were electric the entire time. And yes, I may have gotten a little parasocial with the meaning of the musical being somewhat of an entertainer myself in the modern age haHA! As cringe as it may sound, I cannot put into words how thankful I am to have everybody here on the Patreon, we have had an absolutely insane year with music and musicals. He was actually pretty horrible and really exploited the folks that he had work for him. It's fascinating to read about. But again, this movie still slaps lmao. They all contradict each other. All of the articles from 2017 trash him. All of the articles from the 80s and before the movie came out dont trash him so bad. I can see the posters and newspaper clippings and letters from the articles written before the movie came out so that’s nice. It looks to not be settled. I think I’ll just focus on the positive like they did in the movie lol definitely look at articles that are trusted from all time periods. It’s a fascinating read.

The Show. a few years ago and he opened with The Greatest Show and brought Keala Settle (Lettie, the bearded lady) out on stage at one point and she sang This Is Me and her song Harder (which we got to hear before it was released!) and they were so incredible. There’s just something about seeing Hugh perform on stage in Australia that felt so special. He sang From Now On and said something a long the lines of Australia always being his home. I’ve never met the man but hearing him sing “and we will come back home” hit hard.

When I eventually got to see it i didn’t care for it as much because it did not make the movie in my head. I havent seen it since then but rewatching it now and not remembering much gave it a whole new perspective and was like seeing it for the first time again

If it was a fictional character to start a circus then i would be 100% the biggest fan of this movie. Even so, great film and soundtrack!

Hugh Jackman was with the project since the VERY beginning, doing everything he could to get it green lighted. Sadly right before the producer meeting he had to get a tumor removed from his nose leaving him unable to safely sing. Luckily, Jeremy Jordan a broadway actor (Newsies, Bonnie & Clyde, The Great Gasby) was able to help out during the meeting and sing the parts of both Barnum and Phillip. There's videos on youtube talking about it

Barnum didn't see those people as human, he put them in cages and sale ticket to see freaks shows, wild savages and exotic subhuman. He famously sold everything he could. He sold the autopsie of a black women in front of a crowd. His museum and circus actually aggravated racism by showing those people as scary beast. He was a piece of sh*t. His genius was in marketing tho, big time, the concept of merchandising came from him. If you forget about that it's a good movie with a great score.

Hugh Jackman was doing a song from Oklahoma called "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin" (if you don't know Hey, Mr Producer was a production in honour of all the plays that Cameron Mackintosh had produced) and dad was in charge of a few people on his side of the stage. Most of whom were lovely (Dame Julie Andrews, Dame Judi Dench etc) some of which were very excited (Hugh Jackman!) Hugh Jackman was so excited and was being pretty loud and wired when he was waiting quietly in the wings that dad had to tell him to "shut the f**k up!"

My parents had myself, my brother and our spouses come to their house for lunch and during lunch he told us about the cancer. I tried to get a refund on my tickets because I was just so devastated and didn’t want to go anywhere anymore, but my dad convinced me to still go and try to enjoy myself. Thankfully it’s 7 years later, my dad kicked cancers ass and this movie is one of my all time favorite musicals! So while I may have a very sad and emotional memory of the first day that I saw it…everything turned out ok in the end! 🩷

2024-12-04 00:33:26 +0000 UTCowner of zendayacollective on instagram here :) really enjoyed rewatching the movie again with your reactions/comments! here are some things you might wanna know about the project and some stuff you might have missed. 1. the trapeze partner of anne (zendaya) w.d. is her brother (lol) 2. many of the songs were workshopped with hugh jackman, keala settle (who played lettie), cynthia erivo, jeremy jackson and more, in order to get the movie greenlit. some of these workshop sessions are uploaded on youtube and definitely worth a watch! there is also an amazing acoustic version of 'rewrite the stars', performed by zendaya, which you need to listen to. 3. zendaya did tons of trapeze training prior to shooting the film in order to do most of the acrobatics and stunts by herself. 4. 'rewrite the stars' recently surpassed one billion streams on spotify, the only song from the soundtrack that reached this milestone. 5. most of the actors cast in the movie did their own vocals (e.g. hugh jackman, zac efron, zendaya, keala settle) except rebecca ferguson (who played jenny lind) - her vocals for 'never enough' were sung by loren allred. 6. this was a maiden movie for director michael gracey. the movie and the soundtrack won multiple awards, like golden globes and grammys. 7. in august 2024 disney announced that they are working on a stage musical adaptation after the movie had such huge success worldwide. there is definitely more lore, info etc. on this film but here's some of it :)
