is LOVER by TAYLOR SWIFT her worst album?! [PATREON ONLY]

TAYLOR'S BACK and this time... I'm nervy! Check out my honest review and reaction to Taylor's 7th album "Lover" - I honestly had a great time listening to it and editing everything it all together.

At the end of the day, I love making these album experiences, even if I don't vibe with some, I always try and find a way to have fun when listening with y'all. So even if we have different opinions, I'm ultimately glad get to jam together to some good ole T. Swizzle AND feel free to leave me a comment about anything I missed cause I'm sure ya will ;)

I know it's been like 6 months since the last Taylor video but hopefully, it won't take that long to get the next one out hehe but hey - as always

stay happy healthy and strong,

- Troy :D

Comments

Lover live from Paris performance is soo much better imo

Nicole

The Archer is one of her best songs ever

julie rickert

After hearing so many of these songs acoustic in the eras tour I truly think this album needs a rerecod

Makayla Bailey

I watched this while my mom had cancer and found “soon you’ll get better” and it was my anthem for months. I know it’s a Taylor song but I listened to it to the first time with you and now my moms gone so I’m back here listening again because it takes me back to when she was here and I had so much hope she would get better.

Krista Grigsby

so many of these songs sound better when played acoustically, which makes me continue to think the album suffered from its production.

Allison Blonder

I need the video reaction to the man haha I bet that would be greattt

Marissa Killpack

Seriously, just watched the Midnights reaction and would love to see a Rep reaction!

Bee Taylor

OMG YES I LOVE LANA DEL SLAY 😍😍😍😍😍

jjlolll

I’m really hoping that the Midnights announcement is enough to convince you to do the reputation reaction in October! I’d also love to see you do a LWYMMD video reaction with a guest who can explain all the references/Easter eggs in the video, like when you had a guest to explain the folklore Betty/James/August triangle!

Kate H

LOVED the reaction Troy! Now… pls pls pls pls pls PLSSSS you need to react Norman F Rockwell by Lana Del Rey, it’s sooooooooo good!

Miguel Caipe

I’m really glad that the Miss Americana doc helped you see why we all have extra love for Lover! It may not be her best work, but it meant so much to her!

courtbrooke

Thanks Troy!! No hate, it you think its mid nbd at all, you do you buddy. I agree COMPLETELY with those who said it's a grower ... I also hated Lover when it first came out: I listened to it once and forgot about it for a year or so. Then I was trashing it to a friend and fellow Swifty, who hardcore defended it. Now I fucks with soo many songs, I LOVE IFTYE, Cruel Summer, Archer ... I Think He Knows is surprisingly top of the top for me, it's so sassy and sexy and that falsetto gives me Prince vibes, it's a great song to do some fun footwork to. But I still don't like a good chunk of songs off this album - it's funny that this album has some of my top 10 and my bottom 10.

bits

I don't think that's fair Richard. You can love Taylor Swift and still hate some of her songs. I don't like Me! , Stay, Stay, Stay , It's Nice to Have a Friend, and others. To say that every one of her songs is perfection for every one of her fans is unrealistic. You dislike whichever songs you want Tal, nbd!

bits

You should react to The Man music video!! Esp bc you liked it so much. It’s WIIILD

Lily

I've been seeing all the hate for ur reaction but I loved it! I was an early ts fan mainly from fearless to 1989 eras but before rep came out I stopped listening until evermore. a lot of her albums for me have been growers and I love albums like that! honestly reputation was a slowww grower for me and its still my least favorite. anywayss loved the reaction.

Aglaee

Yeah, I may have been a bit too much. I just didn't connect with this album. and yeah, i'm a swiftie since 2010. I know not everything should be serious all the time. I love her "bops" like The Very First Night is a bubble gum pop but I LOVE this song so much. usually I hate bubble gum pop. I don't know what it is about Lover. maybe it's the production plus the lyrics make this album too childish...

Tal

Wow the hate. Are you sure you are a long time fan. I am an OG fan from Tim McGraw and I can never say those things about Taylor. ME! is a fun song and it is not that bad. Just like the other song haters like hating on is Stayx3. She doesn't want to be serious all the time. Lover album is a happy love album, she wanted to show because of Joe and a contrast from Reputation darkness. I hope you are ok with my criticisms. We are both Taylor fans.

Richard

I loved this reaction, your editing made it hilarious!! I’m a big swift fan and like Lover but I appreciate and respect your honesty because everyone has different opinions! Great video 👏🏼👏🏼

Sarah Gainsford

Honestly man, you were too nice about this album. love your humor! i'm a long time swiftie since 2010. i'm the same age as Taylor and a guy (so maybe that's the reason as you said, I haven't related to it as much). this is by far my least favorite album of hers. I barely listen to maybe 5 songs off of this album (Soon You'll Get Better, Cornelia Street, Death By A Thousand Cuts and Afterglow) I think all the rest are throw aways (except Cruel Summer). the fact that she released ME! as the lead single on her 7th album when she was 29 years old! like you, I always made fun that it's literally a kidz bop. I always call this song: 'ME!SS' lol. Taylor even says in Miss Americana, while in the studio, recording ME!, that she wants kids to scream the lyrics. most swifties hate this song. this album is subpar by a mile to Taylor's standards. it's not like I hate upbeat fun songs. I love upbeat, fun music. I do. but the songs in this album sound juvenile. you were pretty nice about this album. I don't know if you'll like reputation. it can go either way. reputation is in my top 3 albums after folklore and Speak Now but on first listen, I don't know if you'll like it or not. but I can't wait for your reputation reaction. ALSO. important note! if and when you'll react to the reputation album, please follow that with a reaction to the reputation tour (on Netflix as well). Taylor live is on another level. she takes the songs to another level. there could be songs that you weren't digging on the album version and then you see her performing them live and you fall in love with them. it happened to me with Out Of The Woods. wasn't that big of a fan but when I watched the 1989 tour, I fell in love with the song.

Tal

I would like to see your reaction to DPR Ian album mito! He released a second one recently too!

Mari

Corniela street is NEVER BLAND. Watch the acoustic version on her city of lover special.

Richard

TROY I have so many thoughts, tysm for reacting to Lover! Like others have said this album is a grower. I think she said she wrote all of these songs on piano or guitar first which is why City of Lover concert is recommended - it’s one of the only live performances playing these songs. Her tiny desk is really good too! I feel like this album makes more sense once you’ve listened to Reputation and have seen her Miss Americana documentary. This was her really happy in a relationship and felt like she can finally express her feminist/political feelings. It’s a mutual agreement amongst fans that Cruel Summer should have been a single. Idk what she was thinking!! Lover’s bridge is one of my favorites of hers. It has so many references to other songs. She went from “you should think about the consequence of your magnetic field being a little too strong” (Gorgeous, Rep) to “I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” “My hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue” (wedding reference/Joe’s favorite color) From “all’s well that ends well but I’m in a new hell every time you double cross my mind” (ATW10, Red) to “all’s well that ends well to end up with you” “I used to know that my place was a spot next to you now I’m searching the room for an empty seat” (The story of us, Speak Now) to “and at every table I’ll save you a seat, lover” AND the fact that the music video is a callback to You Are In Love off 1989 “and so it goes, you two are dancing in a snow globe round and round” The more you listen to her lyrics the more you catch on to the references she makes. It’s so fun when it clicks! Okay last thing bc you probably think I’m crazy lol - blue, gold/golden, dive bar, the roof = Joe.

Shannon

THAT BEING SAID, the surface level is broken by one single song imo (soon you’ll get better), which is prefaced with LONDON BOY and a song about someone worshipping her hips.. I LOVE the song, I actually lost my mom to cancer so I get really into the feels of it. But the songs was just so out of place and felt like she just didn’t know what to do with it in such a poppy album. (If you liked that one though, go listen to her song Ronan. I cry every single fucking time)

Lily Saunders

Okay TBH I get it, this is my least listened to album because I don’t feel any…. (For lack of a better term…), invisible string connecting the themes, and I agree it’s pretty surface level stuff. I have a theory that has to do with what she said in Long Pond Sessions, she mentioned being scared her label wouldn’t like that folklore wasn’t a “big pop thing”, so I feel like she was just tired of doing pop at this point but thought it was what everyone wanted from her.

Lily Saunders

Ahhh you know, that makes sense now thanks for sharing!

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

the callbacks to other songs on this album is >>>

Caelen Allen

Feeling sad after this reaction...

E. Zlatanova

It’s a street in NYC !!!!

Makenzie Peter

Cornelia Street is also a favorite

Makenzie Peter

PAPER RINGS IS MY BOP 😭

Makenzie Peter

Agreed!!

Makenzie Peter

I’m here to campaign for “I Think He Knows” because it grew on me and is now my favorite. When you listen to it knowing it is purely about how in love she is and how much she wants to f*ck it starts to make sense. If you follow the cadence of the song you can feel how hormonal and like a teenager she feels. The impatientness of it all really is apparent with “hand on my thigh we can follow the sparks. I’ll drive.” We are used to hearing Taylor sing about men doing her wrong so often that this whole album feels a bit like a dream. I think that is why some fans if her have trouble connecting with it. “In my feelings more than Drake” is a reference to his song and the whole “Kiki do you love me?” of it all. (Drake’s song is about Kim Kardashian so idk if that plays into their beef or if she just likes Drake.) Death By A Thousand Cuts is the best song on the album though and Cruel Summer should have been a single but covid took that away from us. Taylor is credited on Olivia Rodrigo’s song Deja Vu after its release bc of the similarities between Deja Vu and Cruel Summer. Anyway I loved this video! You didn’t love this album but I think you are right. This album wasn’t for you. It was more for Taylor and the *~gUrLiEz*~ who know what it’s like to go from feeling hopeless in love to growing up and being in a healthy relationship. There is also a documentary on Netflix called Miss Americana that is kind of behind the scenes in this era. I saw someone else mention it but Taylor had been criticized for a long time for taking the safe road in politics and during this era she decided to start speaking out. I think that is why you see mentions of politics sprinkled in. I saw an interview a long time ago about how when people would ask Taylor what would happen if she became happy and she was worried as well that she would lose her ability to write break up songs which is what she does very well.

Lala

First off I love the ad!?! Super cool style I dig it. Secondly yo I was just holding my breath until death by a thousand cuts lmao I was going to rethink my life choices on that being my go to song on lover if you picked it apart 😂 Definitely check out lover live from Paris, it’s worth the time

Aaliyah

Rep👏u👏Tay👏SHUN

Lily

I’ve always thought this would be an amazing album if it was stripped. Once I watched her Live from Paris performances the album grew on me!

Brienna Meffert Fogle

i truly cannot wait till the day where you review speak now because holy shit it is INSANE in every aspect

Kaylie Jacobs

You have to remember that this album came out after trump won in 2016 and I think there are multiple references that were obviously in reaction to that. If you listen to miss Americana and the heartbreak prince again there is a lot of imagery that reflects fighting for democrats and wanting to run when they lost. I also think the “united we stand, our country guess it was a lawless land” in death by a thousand cuts is also likely in reference to feeling like the US we knew was gone in trumpland

Molly C

I did not like this album that much on first listen, but it definitely is one that grows on you. I would still say that is one of my least favorite album of her’s though. You should definitely check Reputation and the the tour on Netflix, it is probably my favorite. Love your reactions :)

Alyssa Lawton

I love a lot of these songs but this definitely isn’t my fave album. The place where Taylor’s pop perfection shows is easily reputation and 1989 is a close second. Really excited to see you react and review reputation!! That album has so many hidden bangers it’s crazy.

Rori MacPherson

I've never made it past the first 5-6 songs of this album whenever I tried. I first began listening to Taylor when Red came out, enjoyed 1989, then fell off for Rep and Lover. Folklore hooked me in and was my most listened album of the past few years. Anyway...Lover is just not for me. I'm okay with that. I'm glad folks enjoy it! There's a few songs I enjoy and wouldn't mind popping up on a playlist, but I can't just throw this on like I can with most other TS records.

Zach H.

not gonna lie i agree with you. i think this album has some good moments but it was just missing the "it" factor that Taylor usually brings to her songs. Brendon's spoken word part in ME! will never not upset me though like it just isn't good

chloe scheiber

i love seeing a really really honest review like this! i think it's important to talk about the songs we don't love along with the stuff that we do love, and you find a way to make even the lackluster songs super enjoyable! i'm sorry if you've already answered this somewhere, but i was wondering if you ever ended up listening to halsey's latest album and if that'd ever be a video. i'm stoked to watch whatever comes next and tune in for the streams!!

Del Rowe

losing my girlie status 😔

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

Ahh yeah see, that’s so over my head 😂

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

The Archer is all about anxiety and tension, the feeling of the bow being slowly pulled back is what the song is meant to represent: the ending of the song is her 'death' or being hunted down and shot. in a way. I hope that makes sense.

Stella

oops lover is a top 3 album for me (except for the single who shall not be named)

Abbey H.

it’s ok lover is for the girlies anyway

emmapierquet

lol yeah u seen those man’s eyes?? also if you’ve never seen the clip of Shawn Mendes taking a lie detector test talking about Joes eyes look it up 💀

Allison V

Oh damn I love that! That makes a lot of sense why “blue” was all over this album for Joe

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

agreed with most of your thoughts here, and we have all the same favorites! And lol yeah she loves color use, obviously with her album Red, but now that she’s found her lover she says he’s blue and Gold is their “love” instead of red. You’ll notice she does that in Reputation, Folklore, and Evermore, but definitely the most on this album

Allison V

I clicked this so fast when I got the notification lol okay so I love this video. The editing was absolutely amazing and hilarious! Also we both sighed in the exact same way at the exact same time at the end of Me! which also made me laugh. I think you came out of this with appreciation for the same songs I personally really like too. False God is underappreciated!! I also think your criticisms are totally valid and honestly you helped me look at the writing on the album from a new perspective and I love that. I personally love Lover but I also totally agree with your sentiment at the end that Folklore, Evermore, and Red are better album experiences. Thanks for another great video!

Abby

Also the archer is all about anxiety. So that bridge is a perfect depiction of her thoughts and the repetition makes more sense because of it

Shannon Gilhooly

I imagine It’s hard going to lover after folklore and evermore. Lover is not her best work but it’s also by far my most streamed of hers. It’s super fun! Thank you for reacting!

Shannon Gilhooly

really hoping we get a speak now (tv) reaction when it’s released

emily

Lover is a very odd album that takes a few listens to get the vibes. I think you would love all of the Live performance versions of the songs she did at a concert in Paris late 2019. Also! Lots of sneaky references to other songs in here like in “Daylight” she says that she once thought love would be burning red (from Red obviously

Shelby Jones

for me, Lover was definitely a grower and not a shower… I was very disappointed in the first listen through, especially since rep was my favorite Taylor era, but all the songs on Lover just keep getting stuck in my head and I keep going back to them, even the ones I didn’t like on the first listen! Hopefully some grow on you as well!

Laura Kimlinger

1989 and rep are way better in my opinion. This album has a few bops but definitely the most misses for me.

Gwen

From the singles I’ve heard off both I think I definitely will 😅

HAZE (Hamilton Troy Hayes)

I would love to see a reaction to Rex Orange County’s new album WHO CARES? Keep it up is my favorite song right now!!

Gracie Minks

hope u react/like reputation and 1989 more!!!!

stef

Heyyy, I'm working tonight and totally excited to listen to this while I work and (hopefully) avoid getting the 'rona from my client. Thanks, dude!
