Neko 1.9: Emotional Kitty
Added 2018-07-21 19:25:52 +0000 UTC7/27/18: Emotional Kitty
Today what got done was Neko's emotions. Took surprisingly longer than I thought. That, her tail is done and ready to knock EVERYTHING over, and I fixed some parts where she was beginning to stand up to push the couch over but her hand went through her leg to get there.

This is where the tail became a legendary character. So much so that it inspired the stream chat for a BUNCH of ideas for when I start animating the 2nd video taking place in the city. (long ways away from current plans) I'd say the main reason why this vid is taking so long is because of just how much interaction there is. It's insane! I want to make the best Neko gts growth vid ever. One that goes beyond just regular viewing on a phone.

7/26/18: Rin Reacts!
So parenting Rin's feet to the Neko's right hand was a great idea! It turned out perfectly! I thought it was gonna be hugely affected by the movements and not go well, but I barely had a problem with it. Most of the flailing movement was hard to do though with a lot of little pauses the Neko does as she moves around. Glad that part is over! Unintentional flailing is hard. Check.

Added slight tail movement near the end of the stream so that I can pick back up on it the next day.
I have one last thing to mention. Ferrous commissioned for a doll model to be made for him, right? I thought to check the free download out to see how weight painting should properly look. Turns out it also somehow fixes the hair physics problem I've been having! The MMD hair doesn't grow in Blender and the physics become wacky since it all bunches up.
The hair doesn't grow here either (Although, I have a theory that could pull that off) but everything stays consistent without glitching up. Highly worth looking into!

7/24/18: Quick Feet
Ok, so the Neko's feet placement up to the door are completely done. Her body movements seem so as well. Now it's up to fixing her tail, hair, and facial expressions to complete her. Rin is much easier due to her short hair but her small size means that she'll get thrown around a bunch. Which is a lot to animate with the Neko holding her and flailing a bit carelessly.

I was trying to think of how to open the door when they got to it. Opening it with Neko is too easy. Rin is gonna do it and Neko will finish with pushing it open. Now that is teamwork! I wish I was up to exactly this point, but I really wanted to see the pose that could potentially happen. It looks like pairing Rin's feet might actually be a good idea despite fighting the parented auto-movement from Neko's hand. It will allow perfect spacing so that it's less frustrating to keep her legs close and not snapping because the IK joints aren't moving. I'm going to be releasing an update soon on youtube to show general progress and plans. That will take some editing but I got all the voice stuff done while nobody is in my house to hear.

7/23/18: Big Movements
So it turns out that I animate at GREAT speeds when it comes to general movement. Stuff without the little details.

Neko has grabbed the bag and has ascended to standing again. She's more wary of the ceiling this time.

But she is not aware of her weight on the side table. I gotta figure out destruction for it still. I wanted her clumsiness to feel like she IS trying to be careful, but she messes up somewhere else anyways.

This animation of her turning around and pivoting was HARD to do. It took up most of the stream. When she finishes turning, I want to have her tail smack the hell out of the seat on the right to make it fly back into the kitchen shelf thing.

This is where I am now. It may be slightly sloppy and require lots of cleaning up, but I can't believe I'm already down this hallway! Goes to show that all of the time is getting soaked up by Rin's little interactions.

7/20/18: Small Interactions
There was LOTS of small interaction this week. That takes up a lot of worthy time.

Was having some serious screenshot problems. So I had to take a screenshot of a video. Feels weird man. Don't ask me how many hours it took to line up Rin right for getting her unparented off of the Neko's tail and then parented onto the Neko's hand.

Lots of little interaction here. I made sure all of the Neko's fingers moved seperately here so they were more life-like. Again, the real time-sink was Rin's movements as she gets smaller here. I swear she just didn't want to keep her limbs lined up with the hand. Then I remembered way late to parent her limbs too. Legs probably not since those need to flail around.

I guess I'm good at general movement because I did this whole messy part in an hour and a half with multiple revisions. Bump the couch with leg or move with the hand? Pick up Rin with right hand or left hand? (This was a gigantic hurdle by how much it matters in the future) Switch hands later or reanimate for Rin to go in right hand now?

Well the right decision was made because Rin will get bumped into the table lamp from the Neko's sloppy movements! It's not in quite yet, but it'll get there.
