Hi all!
Been working this week on the next dreamworld: the Machine Desert! This strange arid landscape is dotted with old, half buried contraptions of unknown purpose. What sorts of infernal machinations stir beneath the sandy surface? Would you dare venture into the belly of the mechanical beast?
This is the second of the five dreamworlds which will be attached to the nexus via a dream door, and since they're the closest to the waking mind's surface, things are still relatively sensible. As the dreamer descends deeper, however, the worlds will start to look a lot more like the ones from this game's inspiration, Yume Nikki (which you should definitely seek out and play if you haven't already).
In my design document, I have four dream levels planned, getting stranger as they go down. For the build I'm planning for Halloween, I'd like to at least have the five nexus-linked worlds done, but I may decide to pivot on that and do some of the deeper worlds first. Coming from the highly linear design of Silkfang, it's really refreshing to have so many different avenues of work available to me!
This has also gotten me to thinking of what the end goal of WDD should be. In a game about mining your dreams for smut material, what should the final sequence look like? I have a few ideas that really excite me, but you guys will just have to wait and see!
