You should visit Dayton Ohio and the US Air Force . They have the b-24 and b17 Memphis Bell .From the Wright Brothers B flyer to the B2 stealth bomber , x planes to ICBM’s - Spads to the f-‘22 -c47 to the c135 and one of every retired air force one .The collection has over 360 aircraft and thousands of artifacts on display 25 acres under a climate controlled roof. A personal note: My grandfather never served in the armed forces in WWII. He was kept home as essential to the war effort. He trained those women whose filled the factory he worked at making brass firefighting equipment for Navy warships.

Until they relearned close-range air-to-air fighting skills again by starting the Top Gun school the MiG-17s were routinely outgunning the much bigger F-4s over Vietnam.

Size of uniforms: Didn't the USAAF purposefully recruit smaller fellows to better fit into aircraft? I think I heard that somewhere.

A good book on the formation of the 8th Air Force, early strategic bombing and development of bombing formations/tactics in England is a bio on Curtis LeMay called Iron Eagle by Thomas Coffee.

Spend a weekend in Savannah and hit the museum as you leave for a few hours. Had a blast!

Been there done that!!! Awesome museum! They have a bomber simulator so big you stand in it. Screens all around, awesome sound with deep bass, you feel like your in a B-17 under fighter and flak attack.

This is a solid review. Thank you. You really need to make it to the National Museum of the USAF at Wright-Patterson in Dayton, Ohio. It is an order of magnitude (or two) larger and the museum docents are great.
