The USS Albacore was a test platform developed by the U.S. Navy to test new submarine technologies before being installed on operational subs.

Aaron, this looks like the Soviet's got ahold of these plans and used them for their subs.

yep, it topped out at about 33-34 kts.

Did the Albacore seriously attain 30+ knots as a diesel boat??

No audio when I play this..

Is no one else having issues with this brief? I can’t get any audio for some reason 🤷‍♂️

Excellent Aaron. I really enjoyed this!

Outstanding presentation :)

26:00 What is the dial in the middle of the steering wheel?

3:30 The youtube channel Drachinifel has a good long-form video on the US torpedo failures at the start of WWII: https://youtu.be/eQ5Ru7Zu_1I

At 10:37 the towing test without a propeller or any high-pressure air to blow the ballast tanks sounds extremely dangerous. Perhaps a blower could blow the ballast tanks with low-pressure air if the snorkel was above the surface.

I read long ago that research into the hydrodynamics of whales and sharks influenced submarine hull design. AGSS-569 looks like a whale - I wonder if the influence is an urban myth or has an element of truth.

Great video, thank you!
