Took me far too long to realise you were saying Christopher Meloni, not Maloney - I thought you were on about that Scouse bloke off of X Factor with Botox falling out of his arse

Liam

This movie is exactly how Luke describes it. 1 hour of setup followed by cumshots... really enjoyed the 1st half of the movie and the idea the movie setting up " what would superman be like in the modern world" unfortunately the 3rd act of the movie just felt like my eyes and brain were assaulted. Also the Jesus metaphors and Cavill portraying superman as someone who was burdened with the responsibility of being the best of us really was off putting

Akash Damodaran

Anyone else find themselves randomly faux screaming "I WILL FIND HIM" after watching this episode or is it just me?

Josh Burton

Its the same ginger kid throughout, it's Pete Ross. Lois talks to him as well during her search for Supes, generally Pete is a childhood friend of Clark in the comics and more prominently in the smallville series.

James Brogan

I don't hate this movie, think there are far worse atrocities in comic book movies but I understand the criticisms. I'm a big comic fan and love Cavill as Superman but Snyder is definitely the problem. I think the cast and performances are all great and it's a fun movie if you turn your brain off.

LUKE: It was a certain level of reach.

Luke Owen

LUKE: Oh that's amazing! You can tell him from me that I said thanks and I'm super grateful for it!

Luke Owen

Great job, guys. Luke, I'm taking a summer course called Understanding Movies at the University of Maryland, and my professor has recommended that students read your book.

Redrum972

Really hope the "guest who really liked Man of Steel on the other podcast" isn't someone you have to debate movies with, cause I'm sorry: "we don't see the bodies, so you can't criticize the movie for them" is one of the most 'gotcha on reddit' arguments I've ever heard someone try to pass off in a real conversation. They might as well argue there's no Jesus allegory because the priest doesn't stare into the camera and say, "He's exactly like Jesus! From the Bible!"

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

That one that's got more heart and charm than ANY of the subsequent "better" releases? I can't wait either :D

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

Guys! Spider-Man 3 is way worse than this. I hate that film, almost more than anything. From stem to stern doodoo. Remember when Harry hits his head forgets everything and the hero thinks "thank God for that" Peter just lives his life, happy to have his friend back. Or when Spider-Man throws off the symbiote and thinks "thank God that's over, I'll shower and move on with my life" It's the biggest end of one era and start of the next leading into Iron man the following year. That said, this movie is also real bad. This is great content love your guys work!

Aaron Downey

DUDE! when are you guys doing that terrible fantastic four movie that was just made to keep the rights i think it's the 94 fantastic four?

Bdazzle

OLI: 28 Days Later aren't technically zombies... (but I agree, my bad)

Luke Owen

42 & Fear & Loathing are both very good movies that Christopher Meloni was in. Drink a few beers & smoke a Travis Scott cigarette then Harold & Kumar becomes quite funny too!

Mark Decker

The bit at the end where they talk about how the writers and Snyder justified the killing made me soo fucking angry. Just absolute trash. And the 1 big time superman kills someone in the comics is the joker and he's tricked into killing a pregnant Louis THATS how you write a Superman. I like Henry as Superman but I HATE Snyder.

Rich LeClaire III

Oli saying that Snyder gave us running zombies is blasphemy as a Brit considering that Danny Boyle gave us running zombies 2 years before Dawn of the Dead with 28 Days Later. Also once you guys are done with the superhero films I would love to hear your take on Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, it is my lowest rated film on Letterboxd and I am pretty sure I will never see anything as bad

Jei Kuma

I grunted when I heard the 55 pounds number. That's awful, I'm sorry to hear that. "Joyless" is a very good way to describe this movie. I actually feel that way about a lot of what DC was doing around this time, including the comics. Maybe I was reading the wrong ones, but I know that all the fun heroes I'd been reading up to the launch of the New 52 became grungy and grimdark.

TEi HasPants

OLI: YES.

Luke Owen

OLI: Weirdly, I feel like a lot of those work. They're definitely on the edge, though (the Batman Begins example feels more like the Trolley Problem). You could argue that Ra's could get out of the train situation, considering his martial arts skills. I think it ultimately comes down to whether the rest of the film is good enough to sustain the trust the audience has in the character. Superman killing Zod feels unearned, because that trust never got built up in the first place. With your examples, we were taken on the journey with Batman.

Luke Owen

OLI: I read that comic as it was being released. It's a really fun limited series of his. Very Christmassy, weirdly.

Luke Owen

Christopher Meloni Is in a really, really good tv series, called “Happy!” Which I think is based on a Grant Morrison comic book.

Jamborella

Great video guys

Question for Oli: I agree I like my batman non-gun and not a killer but is it okay for him to strap a dynamite bomb to a clown and walk away? Or to throw a bunch of identical coins at a man suffering from severe OCD as he stands precariously over a pit with jagged rocks? Or, my personal favourite, as a train with a bomb hurtles towards it's final destination he tells the villain. "I won't kill you...but I don't have to save you" which some might say is the same thing?

RealDoubleJ

Zack Snyder is the Vince Russo of directing.

Nathan Lickliter

I will always remember my thought at the end of this movie…. “ did he really kill that guy”

Aj

Saw this opening night in a sold out IMAX and had a great time............. Then I thought about it. lol I hate this movie and all the Snyderverse so much.
