If you want to see Christopher Reeve at his comedic best, watch the movie "Noises Off”. It also stars Michael Caine, Carol Burnett & John Rittter. Between Ritter and Reeve, the physical comedy is on point.

Maybe my hottest take, but I don't think this is THAT much worse than the other three. It's definitely the worst and most low effort but its still kinda fine. I like the Daily Planet stuff. I get its not what people want from a Superman movie but for what it is, its fine.

Quentin Tarantino only understands the thing he's referencing on a "barely beneath the surface" level?! The HELL you say! ;)

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

I’ve always thought that Kill Bill speech was wrong. Batman does the same thing, where Batman is the real person, while Bruce Wayne is the mask he wears. Superman only does that in the movies. Donner and Reeves invented the distinction (which was brilliant, I think) of Clarke being kind of a clumsy guy without confidence to hide that he’s really Superman. In the comics it’s more like there is no secret identity. Superman and Clarke were the same person, except for a pair of glasses to keep people from recognizing him. There wasn’t much difference other than that until the movie.

You need to watch rob ,zombies munster movie that's a bad movie

Supergirl was underrated in its time!

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

Lenny got to play Lex in the Supergirl tv show. He was pretty entertaining.

Thicc Batman. Wait, wrong patreon.

TEi HasPants

If he does, he'll realize what a classic it is. He's scared.

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

Gen-X filmmakers really ran the whole "Superman as outsider god" into the ground. And as usual: they did it in the most ham-fisted way possible. But you're right, it absolutely applies more to Batman, especially as he plays a "parody of a billionaire" while still enjoying actually being a billionaire. But if you're in the Cool Film Dorks Club, you don't get to make fun of Batman.

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

Batman & Robin rules. It's a camp festival of colors and ultra-capitalism. It's exactly what the studio demanded. It's a bad movie, but it's an incredibly fun one. The only people I've seen fail to have fun with it are the types who think anytime Batman is funny, it's a character betrayal.

Mr. Scratch, His Hand on the Wheel

I actually love Batman & Robin. Is it bad? Yes, but I will forever love that movie.

Have not finished this yet, but have a few random comments/notes from what has been discussed so far. 1) Superman Legacy was the original title for James Gunn's Superman until it was changed to just Superman. 2) while I disagree with Luke's notion that using the original theme in Gunn's movie is cheap nostalgia, I also understand the perspective. But I pose this question, is it different with MCU Spider-Man using the sixties cartoon theme? Or using the X-Men TAS theme? I think it is more just, these are the emblematic themes for these heroes - like using the 007 theme in James Bond films etc. But, one thing that I hope, before the trailer came out there was the motion poster for Superman. The music used in that I felt was the John Williams melody but using some of the styling of Hans Zimmer Man of Steel score. Which I thought was absolutely brilliant and what I hope we get more of in the full score. 3) The Kill Bill line is a personal pet peeve of mine as it doesn't 100% equate to Superman imo and the analogy fits Bruce Wayne/Batman a lot better, as Bruce is the mask - while Batman is who he really is. I have always had the belief that the ultimate irony of Superman is that he is an alien from another planet, but is the most 'human' of all the DC pantheon due to his upbringing. Sure, everyday Clark Kent is a persona - but I would argue so is Superman. The real identity is the boy from Kansas that he only shows to friends and family. Anyway, dont want my negative(ish) notes to make it seem like Im disliking the pod - really enjoying this so far (Superman just happens to be one of the characters I hold a passion for). Looking forward to listening to the rest as I continue my shift today.

I would truly love you to do The Flash as well. I know it's a tedious movie but Flashpoint Paradox is my all-time favourite Comic Book storyline and it's unbelievably frustrating how much they butchered it in the film. I would love to see your fleshed out thoughts about it!

Should Black Adam be in your list of movies? Superman is in it, to set up for the biggest showdown in the DCEU.

MLSleeper

I hope that after the Superman run they tangent into other DC films such as Catwoman.

Jason Downey

Greatest opening ever

Also love hearing Snyder get his just desserts. I hate hate hate Watchmen, I dislike everything he's done, but Watchman is an appalling adaptation!

Bloomin love hearing you guys talk about comic books. Grant Morrison is my favourite author ever, comics or otherwise. I like all star superman, but it's not my favourite work of theirs. You can tell they had a lot of ideas and had to condense what they wanted. I personally prefer the Invisibles, I love how out there and strange it is. My pick for the best superman story is genuinely the recent My Adventures with Superman animated series. Its a wonderful, heartwarming story for all ages. In terms of comics, I love Superman for all seasons.
