SFO Overview Series

"A Fury of Owls" is doing an awesome overview series, going through everything related to Steel Faith Overhaul mod, and breaking down information about changes made to each race, their units, and their campaign features.

It's very much worth checking out, and I highly recommend anyone newer to the mod giving it a view!

SFO Overview Series

woof. I opened the Empire overview and had to stop it. I can't watch 30 minutes of this kind of quality and you shouldn't expect anyone else to. Consider who you are making these videos for: people who do not know what this mod you love is all about / what it does. You are making yourself an ambassador for this project and the best way to do that is to put more effort into the quality of the videos you are making. Shorter videos are better than longer videos, scripted is better than unscripted unless you are a proven master of improvisation (which you are not, as evidenced in the footage I have seen [and that is not an insult, improv is HARD and I wouldn't be any better at it]). I know video editing is really hard and time consuming (I've tried it myself...), just like writing a script (even just for 15 minutes of talking) is time consuming, but again if you are serious about helping this project you need to produce better quality videos. You need to edit out the umms and ahs, anything extending your video length that isn't making your video better. If I were a video editor I would offer to help, but my talents are more in live streaming. The faction specific videos need to be 15 minutes (or 10 even) because you're asking someone to watch a lot of them to get a general sense of what the changes to each faction have done. Make an outline of the most important points, and talk about them. You don't need gameplay footage since it is impossible to make out what is going on in Total War games without fullscreeening. You can use gameplay footage as passive background imagery but don't try to speak to it, nobody will be able to see what you're referring to. Drive your main points home with large text slides that don't require fullscreen to read, then cut back some rando gameplay footage. If you're familiar with PartyElite I really recommend watching his tutorial videos, the quality is outstanding and makes Total War look so amazing, consistently. He does amazing zoomed in shots of action on the battlefield that do not require fullscreen to appreciate, his videos are short and to the point, and he very obviously has a script written before he starts talking. I'm not expecting you to be Party Elite quality overnight, but look at him as an example of how good someone can make Total War look in video and see what you can learn from him. edit: the video in question is actually under 19 minutes, but see what my brain did? I saw over 15 and rounded it to 30, like a lot of people will. It doesn't matter that the video is 19 minutes, when people see that they expect to lose 30 minutes of their life watching it, and have to decide if they're going to make that investment on the spot. This is why shorter videos are easier to get people to watch.

Regarding "guiding principles", this is a good thing to bring up, make a slide with what they are, talk about them each briefly before going into more depth with in-game examples of changes. Go back to the slide showing all of them in between examples to help reinforce all the things your mod is attempting to do. Showing that splash screen with tiny text all over it is not readable by anyone unless they fullscreen your video, which most people will not bother doing. Big, readable, text is your friend. Outline your points, read from a script, and you will be a more effective communicator.
