Dev Diary 153: Good loot comes to those who explore

Hello mutants,

how are you doing? Here at the post-apocalyptic factory, we’ve been working on some interesting new loot!

New equipment such as the Toxic Counter or 9 different Pip Expansion Hardware mods called “Buddies” are sure to find use for many of you. Not to mention new weapons to help “settle down” all those wasteland misunderstandings.

Besides this, I’ve set out to fix the mines in Fallout engine. Many players might not be aware that there exists a problem with mines in case they explode during combat. The explosion itself has no radius, the Explosion DT/DR of your armor are ignored, and there are VFX/SFX issues.

Once I’m done with this, one big test will commence and if all looks OK then, v0.6 will see the light of the day!

See you next week,

-PJ

Squashing one old bug after the other! 😎

Thank you very much for the update PJ, this really sounds amazing! I really love the upgrade capability of the PIP Boy system and also the fact that you have sorted the mine code in the engine as that actually always bothered me, awesome work all around! Thank you very much again for all your hard work, it is greatly appreciated! :)

All aboard the hype train!

PJ

This is going to be great!

Very interesting ideas, Patrik. Well worth exploring! For example, I also never liked how shiv was made useless. The whole idea of it is that it’s almost undetectable by guards and able to slip through almost all armor cracks easily 😎

PJ

Děkuji příteli! 😃

PJ

And I'm so excited too, of course:). Sending regards from Brno - Czech republic

If some enemy have in his possession a gun which ignores armor stats it could create a lot of exciting situations. For example some guy in a scene can destroys enclave guys who is laughing to him...or some jet dealer could have it too and it will be very difficult to take him down and player would have to figure out not a conventional way to take him down. Maybe in his sleep or so...

Patrik Joura

Yeah, it could be on purpose, depending on how far the players want Fallout to be realistic or gamified. It also raises a question if other damage types should have situations where they ignore the armor? Good topic for discussing further. In any case, the player should be informed that his armor resistances were bypassed, which he isn’t at the moment.

PJ

I think, i saw it before i mean that mines ignore armor stats. Maybe in Jagged Alliance...maybe it is not a mistake.

Thanks, bro! I’m also very excited about this release 😃

PJ

I'm so excited! Awesome work, as usual.
