You’ve officially met Team Yohan, yey! Btw, Luca was right, the injustices that the people in Yohan’s team said are based on real life cases in Korea. I have a lot to say about this so brace yourself, this is going to be a long comment 😅
In 2018, a woman in Korea was repeatedly asked by the investigating police officer about her “ulterior motive” for “trying to destroy a promising young man’s life” when she came forward to file a report against her rapist in the wake of the MeToo movement. In many SA cases, a variation of “a promising future” is used to excuse the crime. Idk if you’ve heard of the Burning Sun scandal but Seungri only got 3 years for that, for one of the most horrendous humantrafficking and sex crimes ever, and it’s infuriating because a lot of the victims were initially slutshamed for being in a party and drinking.
As for the department store that Soohyun’s Chief was talking about, I also think they might be alluding to the Sampoong Department Store collapse, as Luca said. Moments before the collapse, the chairman, who was only sentenced to 10.5 years in prison (reduced to 7.5 years upon appeal) and his son (sentenced to 7 years), were in a meeting arguing against evacuating people (since the warning signs were already there) because it was “bad for business”. This is on top of them already getting reports months before the collapse and refusing to make the department safe for both the workers and the customers, so nobody can really argue that they didn’t know what was happening. On a very “this should be in a Devil Judge episode only and not real life” moment, the president at that time gave a speech days after the collapse and his stupid ass thought the camera was turned off right after his speech so he turned to his aid and said “that should be enough, right?” and the tone and wording of that in Korean is very disrespectful. It’s giving “I did it, are you happy now?”
