I've also seen a hypothesis about there being two collisions, one that changed the rotation side and one that slowed it down. And there's a really interesting paper about how one of the collisions could've caused rocks to launch off from Venus causing a panspermic event to happen from Venus to Earth via life that survived on the rocks.
