Talking about Mickey 17 (spoilers btw)
Added 2025-03-12 04:17:47 +0000 UTCThinking about this movie so I wanted to ramble but my brain cannot think no no sorry

Yeah, I heard from others too, itโs a mid. The story is infected by the woke mind virus, panders too much, using big names as buzzwords to hype it up. Don't get me wrong, it ain't bad, but it ain't good either, just serviceable. Robert Pattinson was the only good thing that came out of this movie.

2025-03-12 15:13:02 +0000 UTCEver since his debut as Cedric Diggory, Pattison has been amazing at portraying suffering, self sacrificing men. And I suffer with him because he reminds me of my big bro so much.

2025-03-12 10:18:49 +0000 UTCI thought pretty much the same. The Mickeys were the best part, and early on it felt like they were using it as a punchline while building to something more serious, but they kept introducing all these other things that didn't go anywhere or weren't very interesting. They spent WAY too much time with Mark Ruffalo as well. I was hoping for an Andrew Ryan type, but instead we got...that. then the second half goes off the rails, a lot of dumb people doing stupid things, then it just ends. It felt they didn't really do anything with the best concepts by the end. Really disappointing overall. 5-6/10 for me.

2025-03-12 09:10:50 +0000 UTCI also liked it but it was closer to an 8/10 for me. Robert Pattinson continues to transform for his roles. The social commentary was good if not a little on the nose. It did feel like it meandered a bit but I think certain elements might have been to make it more accessible. Though it could just be a little messy. Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer and Parasite are definitely a bit better put together

2025-03-12 07:39:56 +0000 UTCThis movie reminds me of another amazing film called "Moon" with sam rockwell. It's the more serious and low budget version of mickey 17, or rather it uses the same premise of the disposable individual. I get a sense of joy when you feel emotional about characters, because that means they're portrayal of these fictional beings are truly alive on screen. And the best part about a film is the suspension of disbelief. I hope you share more of your thoughts in the future, i get a bit misty-eyed too when you sound like you're about to cry. ๐ it's adorable

2025-03-12 06:36:40 +0000 UTCI do actually like stories about characters trapped in an cycle of suffering, it's one of the aspects of re:zero and steins;gate I find interesting. I avoided this one though because it looked cruel and done mostly for the sake of comedy rather than commenting on what that situation would do to a person and how they would overcome it. I'm glad you still got some enjoyment out of it though, I hope the next movie you watch is happier.

2025-03-12 05:43:17 +0000 UTCreally enjoyed how the movie tackles several taboos regarding human experimentation and the joke about religion, but yeah, at the end it got too silly. I would say that keeping the memories from the deaths is one of the worst things, seems too cruel.

2025-03-12 05:11:28 +0000 UTCI'm happy you felt like sharing your thoughts on it. I hadn't heard of it til you mentioned it, then I watched the trailer and thought the idea was interesting. The trailer does make it seem like more of a comedy, though. Thank you for talking about it, I love hearing your thoughts on different things!

2025-03-12 04:43:46 +0000 UTCYou know hearing it gets silly actually makes me want to watch it more. I've been in the mood for something a little less serious, something a lil goofy

2025-03-12 04:38:48 +0000 UTCInteresting to hear about. I hadn't seen too many ads for it yet so it's been out of my scope, but the way you put it reminded me of Tom Cruise's character in Edge of Tomorrow. I'm sure Mickey 17 isn't nearly as actiony as that though, lol.

2025-03-12 04:29:22 +0000 UTCI haven't seen the movie but I really liked hearing your thoughts about it! The way you described it made me feel bad for him too. I think it's really sweet that it made you cry. ๐ It's too bad about the goofier parts bringing the rest of it down but I'm glad you got something out of it! I'm interested in watching it myself now even if it's not like the best thing ever. But yeah this was nice! Would definitely like to hear your thoughts on other things when you feel like to discussing them. I think this is a good outlet for it!

2025-03-12 04:28:14 +0000 UTClistening to you made it sound more interesting to me honestly. it seems like a story that's very much about the character journey.

2025-03-12 04:28:02 +0000 UTCI was hoping you'd talk about it so I could make up my mind if I wanted to check it out myself. I'm the type to get more interested hearing spoilers if it's really good so I don't mind it. You're a harsh critic though, 6/10 while really liking it AND making you cry? Damn. It sounds grotesque and I bet RobPatt made it feel real. Did the goofiness pull too much away from the premise? Is that why it's only a 6? I'll check it out come the weekend. Thanks.

2025-03-12 04:27:26 +0000 UTCI wanted to enjoy it a lot more than I ended up doing, it's a fun premise and I liked the whole social commentary aspects, Pattinson's acting but yeah, the movie kinda drags out the end for no real reason

2025-03-12 04:26:44 +0000 UTCSounds like the part only Pattinson could play, it's always good when a film leaves an impression on you even if it's rough.
