Development update - July 2025

Hi folks!

This month we're celebrating 5 years since the first build, and what an adventure it's been so far. Starting in early 2020 with just me and Haku, then Roborak and Tintiai joining us soon after, we had modest ambitions at first and no idea how far this project would take us. It's been a pleasure to work on it all these years, and such a joyful feeling to still carry it to completion. And it's thanks to you, our patrons, that we can continue working and carry it to completion.

With v0.49 out, I'm working on wrapping up the whole of day 4. The two last loose ends are the Lake and Jørgen routes; the latter is missing a few scenes at the very end of the day, these are at the moment almost but not quite done yet. With Lake, there's a bigger update overdue that I'm finally tackling now: I wrote a rough sketch of the whole thing during my train trip last month, writing during the long stretches between towns. This month, while finishing v0.49, I started with some rewrites to the end of Lake's day 3, written by Branny, to make it fit with what I have in mind for the route; the changes are minor, so while I'd recommend reading from an earlier point once the update comes out, I don't plan changes to the story itself.

And with that, day 4 will finally be concluded! If you're asking yourself, but what about Klaus' route? His content won't be split into days, and there will be no new content for him in v0.50. The summer months are busy, and I'm spread way too thin to be able to tackle another Klaus update now. I'll resume with more of the mysterious cat soon!

In the meantime, I've been working on the v2.0 version of Broken Harbours. I'm happy to say that the writing phase is now finished, but there's still: proofreading, composing new music, adding sounds, testing, and making backgrounds. A lot of work goes into making a VN—enough to sometimes make me wish I could simply be a writer only—but we carry on and still intend to re-release Broken Harbours for $5 on itch + here on Patreon in September.

Lastly, we've had some changes in the team. Branny leaves us after writing two Lake and one Jørgen updates, with me taking back responsibility for all the routes, and Sqee joins us as a programmer and the Quality Assurance/tester. He's already done a lot of great work and his fixes for sprite positions, screens, and other assets you could already see in v0.49!

Thank you all for your support!

It's always great to receive an update and see what work is being done. Shame Branny is leaving the team, wish the best to them in future endevours and to you in the increased workload!
