Oh god, Maggie is also one of Saph's parents, isn't she! The triangle markings on Saph literally match where Maggie's freckles are. They even both have a mark on the right below their mouths. When Emris and Rueby started the baby ritual thing, Mio closed their eyes, but Maggie didn't. The mere act of another Excessan watching must affect the baby's development, but Maggie probably doesn't even know she's got Excessan lineage, much less how Excessan's reproduce, and the others couldn't tell since Maggie doesn't have most of the typical Excessan traits. I wonder what'll happen when they all piece it together...
