Perfect cliffhanger. All the answers are there for you in Ep 1 (the nanites fixing Rose), but it's all explained perfectly. Like you, I assumed it was some sort of plot to take over the world, but it was just bad luck and a child's terror. Yeah, Rose wandering off is a standard thing. As the Doctor points out, all his companions have done it through the history of the show! How else would half the adventures happen? And 'There is a war on, is it possible you miscounted' is still one of my favourite lines in the history of the show!

I'll probably comment again when I finish the second part but FYI -- you don't *have* to like Rose if you don't want to. I mean, she is for sure one of the most beloved characters amongst a large segment of the fanbase who will probably get irate if you dare criticize her, but on the other hand, she genuinely does some really stupid things and is kind of an awful person, so there's that. (fwiw, I do love Rose as a character. I would not want her as a friend in real life).

Don't want to accidently spoil anything, I once commented to someone that a character would grow on them and someone replied that that was a spoiler because it hinted at character growth! Well, all I can say is the least I expect after watching a character for multiple seasons is that there would be some character growth.
