Books 1-4 feedback
Added 2020-05-05 21:57:58 +0000 UTC
Hi friends. I'm looking for feedback on what you would like to see in the next series of books. Pictured above are mock ups of the size and shape. I will be condensing the entire comic up until the current update into these four books. There will hopefully be 6 panels per page, give or take a few larger ones on their own pages.
I won't be publishing them again in the previous format for a few reasons:
1. The book was too heavy and too expensive to produce and ship.
2. Publishers get pissed when I show them a format that isn't the typical comic book format, and so I will be putting the panels into a more traditional format to be able to get better feedback from publishing so that maybe I can put them in stores.
3. I want to be able to charge less for the books so that more people may own them.
4. I might go back to the other format for a special occasion, but for now I need to make ones that look like this.
In the comments, please leave feedback on what kind of covers you would like to see. I can make them look like the previous books with the metallic demon symbols or I can make more creative covers with all the characters on them. Please also let me know what you would like to see on the inside. Thanks everyone.
Hello, I'm new around here (found out about the comic on webtoon recently and am already hooked! I'm in love the story and artwork!). Will there be any digital version of the books? I'd love to have the physical copies, but I'm not really sure I'll be able to afford them at the moment. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what the books end up looking like and future chapters, your work is amazing, thanks for sharing it with us!

Excited to see you make these. I own Book 1 & Book 2. I'll still gladly purchase all of these. I love the current books/format; but I love the comic more, so if this is what best allows you to get them printed, go for it! I will say I vastly prefer hardcover over paperback.

I think that having the covers be the demon symbols would make more sense than them having the characters as new readers may think that those books are solely about said characters if that makes sense. I feel like the symbols would also unify them better?

Personally, my favorite thing about the old books is the way it felt like I was holding the same book that's in the comic, especially because the minimalist design is so cool. However, in terms of drawing in new readers, I like the idea of slight discovery - if you keep the old covers, there's an air of mystery that would compel me to pick it up in b*rnes & n*ble or wherever. So I like the idea of having beautiful art/an alternative cover you're thinking of with characters and stuff as like the first page when you open the book, so even if glancing at it i can't tell much about it, i'd still be able to get a sense of it by picking it up and opening it out of curiosity. I also like the idea of a hardcover with a jacket, bc personally i love taking jackets off my hardcover books and enjoying the minimalist design underneath, so that might also be a solution for those of us that love the old designs to have the option of displaying it on our shelves like that, although it's almost a reverse of the discovery moment i was describing, lol. (Also in terms of shelf display, however these turn out do you think it'd be possible to make the spines of the new books the same height so the new and old books can look good together?) Hope this input helps and I’m looking forward to however these turn out, I know whatever you decide on will be amazing!

I really like the symbols for the demons for the cover art, so I think keeping them would be fine, or art of the character with their corresponding demon book would be cool too. Whatever you choose, it'll be great!

i didn’t know about the Book Creations one and two until this post (and a quick google) i think the old designs were beautiful and would be great on this as well, especially since they’re meaningful to the story. i don’t think an ensemble of all the characters on the cover like you typically see would be necessary, but i’m also not in marketing and... having it be that each time you open the book it’s like how it is on the website, the first panel is the book cover. it’s a striking image. (nostalgia has me biased maybe). but whatever you yourself (and anybody you’re working with in the decision making?) decide, it’ll be a great cover spine and everything. i’ll still want them, trust haha

I think you should keep the illustrations for the chapters of the books like on the website, and name the covers as the characters they’re themed after? I’d buy them no matter what you’d choose to design the books with!

I would love if each book had an element related to the character, such as their shapes, symbolic items, or something in that way! Loved the old covers too

but it’s looking really nice! Hope they’ll have the symbols on the middle too. Really excited to see how these turn out 💖

Though the old format was rly unique I think this will work out great. I’d love to own the older books because they’re so cool but if these will be more accessible I’ll probably actually be able to buy them haha.

Like a lot of other people, I prefer the minimalist design but a little something else might make them more marketable in bookstores. The spines of the old format, while I love them, I don't think would draw in a new reader. I like the idea of bringing those formats back for special occasions because I would buy all of them, but that's as someone who has read this comic for a long time. Maybe the metallic rune on the side and then I like Devin Delaney's idea about character faces, or maybe silhouettes! Something else that recalls the minimalist design but says something more about the inside. I hope this was helpful and I am going to buy all of them!

They will contain the same panels. If you don't want to buy 1 & 2 in the new style you don't have to.

I think Lilith may be asking if she wants to own the whole story, does she need to rebuy the books? I also have the large 1 & 2 and have the same question. Is the new Volume 1 the same panels as the old Volume 1, etc?
Sorry if you just answered this! I was still unclear.

The color scheme looks great. I like covers that are not too busy, so if you were going to put characters on the front, I think featuring one (two at most) character is the way to go.

Personally, I prefer the minimalist designs with the symbols. I think it would actually make them stand out compared to other comics.
I'm sure they'll turn out great, either way :)

Spam us with eye candy. They shouldn't be like the webcomic homepage, the books should have their own element, prehaps something that tells of a Chara's personality or a hit at what's in the book. Or 'steal' light novel covers and make the cover look like a fuckin' overlord!

I understand your reasons for going to a more standardized format. I'm sad because:
"4. I might go back to the other format for a special occasion, but for now I need to make ones that look like this."
I have a signed book 2 but not book 1 and I was wanting a matched set.
Oh, well. I'll support you any way I can.

I usually gravitate more towards the most minimalist designs and covers. They can be very attractive, yet remain a little mysterious. I'll get to know the characters between the pages, if that makes sense? But a lot of people are more attracted to characters instead of symbols, so... it's a hard call.
Whatever you do will be awesome, I'm sure, but I'd still vote for the metallic symbols :)

im a big fan of minimalist designs for book covers tbh, i think something will simple but beautiful symbol/drawings would be super aesthetically pleasing, but of course if you choose to go with a more complex cover for the books, itd also be super stunning like the rest of you art .
also, this makes me excited! cant wait for when these come out, ill be ecstatic to own physical copies!!

Maybe the character on the front of each book and the respective demon on the back cover? I was gonna say like eyes closeup at first, but other comments about drawing in new readers may have a point.. A split face thing might be cool too!

This looks good so far and I am hyped for this 😁
For the cover art, I would prefer a character drawing together with their demon in some way, and maybe the symbol included in the center?
The first thing I thought of for the first book was this one poster of Ava you have where she is all wrapped in bandages or the one where she has this saintly pose with stunning robes and her drawer.
For Odin him in a cloud of his smoke with those awesome glowing lines all over the place.
For Gil this amazing merman prince outfit together with Nevy in her seafoam queen style.
And Maggie... Sitting on a throne of blue roses and thorns like the cruel queen she is, with a depressed Tuls around ^^
But in the end, you are the amazing artist here :D Whatever you choose will be best ^^

The way they were handled in the previous two books I assume, though I could be wrong. That is it's basically like the rest of the comic, it's a storyboard of the animation.

Changing the book publishing to improve marketing and lower prices makes sense, I do hope the new format works well for you. As for comic book cover ideals near all comics have a one of it's charters with the comic name on the front cover. There are three approaches I can think of (from simplest to more complex) : Character striking a pose, a chosen scene that takes place within said book, or a Illustration. Google searching 'comic cover illustrations' is a good place to start looking for solutions. If I have any ideals or concepts for Ava's Demon in the next few days I will throw them up here. Best of luck with the books and Thanks for creating such compelling and interesting tales. :)

How are you handling the videos in the comic? Is there a QR code or something linking to them? Outside of that, I love the design, and hope that it works well for the rest of the books to come :)

U should put collectible info card about one of the characters on the inside of the front cover

If they're hardcover you could make the dust jacket a flashy character illustration and the cover underneath it have a simple symbol?

Will book 1 & 2 in this new style contain the same panels as the originals? Or will they be getting chopped up? Just wondering if I will need to buy the whole 1-4 new books or if I'd be okay getting books 3 & 4.

In terms of cover art I think an illustration would be best. Simple abstract covers work for fans, but new readers seeing it on a shelf it would be meaningless. Your character designs are good so it would be better to attract people with what they might like about the book rather than hope simple curiosity will get them to open it.
I think having each pair of bonded characters appear on their color book would be nice. Maybe having them frame the demon symbol as a nice middle ground?

I agree you should make a 6 panel style comic, as for cover make an illustration. I do like the old 1 panel ones with just the demon symbol on the cover, if you go back and make them I wouldn't mind shelling out more money for the old style

Although I didn't have a chance to buy the previous version, I really liked the covers of the books. The covers representing Wrathia's plan book and the respective characters ties the story in with the cover. I'm also a sucker for simple covers though. So cool that you're trying to make your books more available in format and price!

Personally I feel the single character design/focus on covers is iconic and instantly recognisable as your style, so it's preferable to multiple characters.

This new format makes perfect sense. I would make the covers an illustration of the character (and maybe associated demon?). Your character art is so eye-catching I wouldn't go for a simple look on the cover. Use the demon symbol on the spine if the size fits or back cover.

I'm always a fan of runes and symbols, it feels cryptic and mysterious so if you want to do the same as it was originally with demon's symbols it think it would be awesome! :3

I like the original demon symbol design for the fronts as it brings a bit of that world context to the surface that may not get seen unless read. I also think variant covers would look great too! Lastly, I always looked forward to the back of the book. Where it’s your pieces of development, more information, or just nice art work. With this newer format, it can be more on theme for each character if you wanted.

I have the original books but really like this new format for them ( to be 8 1/2x 11 in ) and its more convenient to store them and not take up so much space. As for the logos, I would still like to see the metallic demon symbols on the cover like the other books, but maybe there could be a cover for them which as art of the characters and or maybe in the inside of the book there could be exclusive art?

Perhaps something akin to the covers of doors; Like Ava’s chest or Magnolia’s door? Or something in the style of Ava’s book inside her chest? Those are a few ideas hopefully they give you something to work with if you choose to! Though I think whatever you make in the end will be wonderful. Wishing you luck and may inspiration strike you when you most need it 💗🌸
