Crimson High v0.44 - Dev Log #1

Good [enter respective time of day here]!

First of all, to get everyone to the same level of information: I am currently on an overlength update, meaning that this will be the first dev log of many (at least 2).

Now, those of you who know how I work will be aware that I have not done any rendering yet. Everyone who doesn't know how I work should know the following: I have not done any rendering yet. The reason for that being that I usually write the whole script for an update and only then start rendering. Not like some other, probably crazy, people.
But anyway! The reason I'm telling you this is so that you know why there won't be any preview renders in this dev log.

------------------------------------------------------------

Seeing as everyone's aware of what's not going to be in here now, I guess we can start talking about actually relevant stuff, I guess.

So! The update!
Well, as I already mentioned above (and at various points in the past), it's going to be a rather long one. In fact, as it currently stands, the update starts at Wednesday evening, in-game (latest cliffhanger) and ends at Friday morning, in-game. Yes, it's going to be that long. Probably. I'm still in the middle of writing, so I can't say for sure yet. There is a small chance that I'll cut the update in half, if it turns out to be too long. While I would like it to be release in one big chunk, I don't want to make you all wait forever. But yeah, as I said, nothing's set in stone yet. I'll try to be as quick about it as possible, so that it can hopefully come out in one.

------------------------------------------------------------

Where are we at right now? What have I done so far?

For this one, I went back to doing something I used to do in the past: pre-writing and planning out the whole update beforehand.
With the size of the update, I felt that it was necessary to do so, and, in hindsight, that was a pretty good call. Doing so gives me a very clear outline that I can work with to make sure that the update includes everything I want it to.
Basically, what I did was to write a list of characters I want to appear, as well as a list of goals I want to achieve within the update. Then I wrote a list of bullet points, going scene by scene through the update, noting what I wanted to roughly happen in each scene and how they would interact with each other.
And, well, let me put it like this: The pre-writing alone is about 50% the length of my usual updates, word count-wise. Soooo, yeah. Gonna be a doozy.

But I've done more than just the pre-writing, of course. I'm a good bit into the actual writing already, though I'm nowhere near the finish line. In fact, I think I'll need another 2-4 weeks for the writing alone. Probably closer to 4 weeks, actually.

As for the rendering.. well, as I mentioned at the beginning, I haven't done any of that yet. Seeing as the writing isn't done yet either, I also cannot tell how many renders there will be in the end. Naturally, that means that I can't give an estimate for how long the rendering is going to take, either. Probably another few weeks, I assume? Not sure, but that's what the other dev log(s) will be for. I'll keep you all posted.

------------------------------------------------------------

And that's pretty much it for this Dev Log again. As usual, chuck your comments/feedback into the comment section below, or onto the Discord. Also, if there's anything you want me to add to future Dev Logs, toss that in there, too. I feel like there's potential for growth here, but I honestly don't know what else I could add - so if you have any ideas for things that could be worthwhile additions, let me know.

The next post I'll make on here will be dev log #2 - probably in a couple weeks, once I know more.

Until then, and with my utmost appreciation for all your support, my beloved patron, I bid you farewell.

Cheers!

Appreciate that lol Sorry for the notification - wasn't intentional lol, I just went into the edit mode and accidentally notified people. There is an actual dev log incoming, though - need just a few minutes more to type it out

Vertigo

Dude, take all the time you need. Yea its been a minute, but the story and content is amazing.

GrayFoxx

Thanks, everyone! It's good to know that you all are content with the waiting time. I'll make sure to make it worth the wait! :)

Vertigo

prforlife

Considering how good you are at what you do, I'm going to let you cook. I'm willing to wait extra for the feast you will be bringing out.

R'ja Norr

I have no problem waiting for the next update. The game itself is one of the best I've gotten into. The writing alone is the main reason I choose to give my amount.

Sithmaster301

The writing is easily the most important part of this game. ... At least, it's the part that brings me the most joy. .... and I'd also prefer to wait longer for a bigger update. I'm already having to hoard these updates, cause the story is just that good.

Dion Starfire

Same, i prefer waiting for the full update, for long i've waited for an update this big, i can definitely wait a lot more until it's done

RyderVT

Derper1979
