Crimson High v0.42 - Dev Log #1

Howdy-how's it going, amigos and early home computers?

Got a quickie dev log for y'all, with honestly not much to talk about besides the upcoming update. I think. We'll find out together, I guess. Strap-on, we're going for a ride!

------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, as you can see, the update is coming along nicely, as usual. This one's going to heavily focus on the twins, Kana and Kagome - both need a lot of love, but.. well, I'm not gonna spoiler anything for you.

Estimated changelog for v0.42.0:
- 14,170 words
- 281 renders
- 2 Space Hamsters

------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------

Initially I had intended for this dev log to happen around the middle of last week. Obviously, that didn't quite work out - mostly because I usually try to include a couple preview renders in these, which I didn't have at the time.
Why is that? Well, that's because I decided to continue writing past the usual break-off point of my average update length of about 12-13k+ words. Yesterday, I then finished the script for v0.43, clocking in at a whooping 18k+ words.
For the mathematically challenged ones among you: that's about 40-50% more content than usual, so I'd say it was time well-spent. And no, this is not the big update I was talking about before. That one will be v0.44.

------------------------------------------------------------

And that's pretty much it for this month's Dev Log again. As usual, chuck your comments/feedback into the comment section below, or onto the Discord. Also, if there's anything you want me to add to future Dev Logs, toss that in there, too. I feel like there's potential for growth here, but I honestly don't know what else I could add - so if you have any ideas for things that could be worthwhile additions.. let me know.

Next post I'll make on here will be the release schedule in X (placeholder, not Roman numeral) days.

Until then, and with my utmost appreciation for all your support, my beloved patron, I bid you farewell.

Cheers!

Hey, thank you, mate! Yeah, inspiration can be a fickle thing, so whenever it strikes, one would be foolish not to capitalize on it. And the best part is that, in the end, it doesn't even matter, because it just shifts things - it takes a bit more time, but there's also more content for it. I do agree that being able to spontaneously go with the inspirational flow helps a lot with preventing/reducing burnout, too. One of the worst things you can do to creativity is to put it on a leash, so to speak. You can neither force nor control creativity - it either is, or isn't, and if it isn't, there's not much to be done about it, but to rest and give it time to recuperate. That being said, I'm very happy to hear that you have this much faith and trust in me, that you know that slightly prolonged radio silence on my part doesn't mean anything bad. Honestly, that's a huge load of pressure off my back. Thank you! And thanks for your kind words, too. You have a great day, too, mate. :)

Vertigo

Indeed! The next few updates are going to be interesting :P

Vertigo

There will be de-shelling, for sure!

Vertigo

Thank you! Glad to hear that you appreciate the small details I add :)

Vertigo

Thanks for the update, Vertigo! I was just reading another post from another of my favorite devs (NCrow) where they stated something similar, and had left off with deadlines in favor of letting the story flow as it will, instead of solely on what must be done in the moment. Adding features, characters, and other QOL stuff is obviously always at the dev's discretion; I don't know a single soul that would be truly upset about having to wait a bit longer for **MORE STUFF!!**, as long as it's the same excellence you've been delivering. Methods like that keep creative juices flowing, cuts back on burnout, lowers stress levels, and is MUCH better for the devs, and works out great for everyone. You've always been very good at keeping us in the loop, here, and I've seen you active on discord when I'm there, so we always know you're not ghosting or abandoning us. These are facts, and one of the reasons your AVN has always been in my top five of all time. I know you will do what you Will, but I hope it helps, even a little, knowing that this supporter is proud of your effort, and is willing to wait longer for those deeper jaunts into the wonderful world you've created! I hope you have a great day!

Padyshar

Woohoo! 50% more story and/or world-building!! For a game like this where the writing is what sets it apart, that's a huge bonus.

Dion Starfire

ahh, been waiting for this update. Finally some love to the twins, especially Kagome. Kana is lovely, but I'm wanting to see Kagome come out of her shell, even if it's just a bit.

Sithmaster301

Can't wait! You're doing a great job with everything! I really like that this world doesn't feel empty because something silly is always happening in the background.

Nurnen

Yesss!

Vertigo

Thanks, mate! I love to hear it! Hope I can deliver good content updates for a long time to come :)

Vertigo

Can't wait! I find myself as excited and waiting for new updates for this as much as I do for the next episode of an anime thats at the top of my watch list. IK I've said it before but this is my favorite VN I've found.

Xlyde

Kagome!!

Just P

None of that, no :P

Vertigo

R'ja Norr
