What a week! - Newsletter week of 9/8
Added 2025-09-12 14:28:37 +0000 UTCPhones, cameras, and an assassination. I'll keep this to tech, but god damn, what a week.
First, the iPhones:
A new $999 iPhone Air model
"ProMotion" 120Hz adaptive refresh rate across the lineup
A wider 18MP front-facing camera with Center Stage across the lineup
Brighter and more durable Ceramic Shield 2 display across the lineup
All Pro models have 48MP sensors across the three rear lenses, meaning that the telephoto lens is capable of 8x optical zoom
All Pro models have a new unibody aluminum design with vapor chamber cooling
The new A19 chip powers the entire lineup
Now the newly announced cameras:
Nikon ZR ($2,200) - Nikon and RED's first camera featuring a 24MP, full-frame sensor capable of 12-bit RAW 6k/60fps video, 32-bit float audio recording, and a massive 4" monitor. Check out my hands-on video about it here.
Canon C50 ($3,900) - The smallest and lightest EOS Cinema camera to date, featuring a 32MP, full-frame sensor capable of 12-bit RAW 7k/60fps video, open gate recording, and 32MP photos at up to 40 frames per second.
Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 ($16,500) - A cinema camera featuring a massive 102MP medium-format sensor, capable of 8k/30fps or open-gate 4k/48fps recording.
Kodak Charmera ($30) - A tiny digital camera that intentionally produces low-resolution, grainy, and noisy photos. It has a 1.6MP sensor that captures stills at 1440x1080 resolution and video at 30fps.
Phew! Did I miss anything?? Let me know!

As always, the Apple event featured some truly wild marketing.
Here is everything else I was consuming this week:
๐ Things I Read:

A nice round-up of Colin and Samir's creator summit that was held last week. I particularly liked Casey Neistat's advice on staying true to yourself and your motives. "Be honest with yourself about why youโre doing it.โ
23 People Explain How Tariffs Have Suddenly Ruined Their Hobby
Great article about how terrible tariffs are, but even better article about cool hobbies.
Stephen Shoreโs Precocious Adolescent Eye
an origin story
๐บ Things I watched:
Disappearing Man - Robert Janz
"A film portrait of TriBeCa artist Robert Janz - whose ephemeral, streetscape water paintings reflect on the impermanence of the artistโs own life."
Mike Hornโs Impossible Journey Around the Equator
Around the world in 17 months by foot, boat, and bike ๐คฏ
How an Artist Converted a 13,000 Sq Ft NYC Warehouse into his Home
A great mixture of photography and more typical documentary footage.

AJR - The Big Goodbye (Official Video)
AJR still exists?! great beat, great vocals, great video
Alright, bud, I hope you get some time to touch some grass this weekend. I have a firetower hike and some editing waiting for me. My next video is all about my first year as an independent creator. Spoiler - it's been wildly hard and 100% worth it.
Appreciate ya!

The experience the Light Phone gave me was unmatched. I LOVED it. And my idea was to go back to it on weekends when I didn't have work to do. The sad part is that I haven't had a weekend off since I went independent ๐ . BUT! the intention is there, and I cannot wait for the opportunity. So, I do not regret my decision to buy it. And I have had MANY people try to buy it off me, and I will not let it go.

2025-09-18 22:08:25 +0000 UTCso many jokes about apple suddenly inventing good use for the back side of the phone; it's almost like they saw a flip phone somewhere. (Here's another: https://www.tiktok.com/@bykovfx/video/7545796456385449223)
