Lowkey just wish they pulled a plot twist like that for any other character bc he just seemed the most left field to do that imo but I'll see how it plays out for sure

I actually wish they couldve given that a bit more screen time/stewing. Maybe showed a flashback of him around Marianne or something. Could have definitely felt a little better. He was trying to figure out if this Lelouch was one and the same with the child he knew.

I didn't remember this, literally at all. I did watch this like 14 years ago or something but I feel like that shouldn't be an excuse. But you know what I do remember? Not liking Rolo. And not knowing why. Anyway that being said I don't think i've got anything to rebut your arguments chief. Maybe this played into my slight distaste for season 2, maybe it didnt. I actually have no clue. Even though they tease being love interests, I've always seen Shirley more like Lelouch's best friend. Like maybe super long term post story they could get together kind of thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with Lelouch's reaction, and don't know if its fair to call into question how close they were. He was trying to keep her safe and ultimately was powerless to do so. I'd crash out too. But from the viewers perspective you are absolutely right. And because she was a "gag" character so often, it lost basically all meaning. Hence probably why I forgot (which I now feel really bad about in retrospect.) But I think your points about her are entirely valid. She was hella underutilized in a meaningful way. She was basically a gag character until the plot needed something to push it forward. And she was likable, which is what makes it more frustrating. Now I am one of those people who claims C.C. is his favorite. I'll be interested to see if I agree with that as this continues, cause clearly my memory has holes in it. But I feel like there is something specific that made me like her, and we clearly havent seen that yet (other than being hot AF and me ~unfortunately~ liking her personality) Anyway. Fuck Rolo. They foreshadowed this shit when he just instant killed that random OP and Villeta couldn't stop him early in the season. Bro's got like no thoughts or forward thinking what so ever.
