πŸ“– Dev Diary 15/11/22 πŸ“–

Apologies for the long delay since my last post - between making the update and trying to paint my bedroom, it's been quite a hectic week! πŸ₯΅

Something struck me while making the update - in almost 4 years of making SpaceCorps, no one has died. Well - apart from the various ways MC cops it in the bad endings πŸ˜‚

I rather like stories that are bold enough to kill off main characters - Game of Thrones is the Ur example of that, often chopping off someone's head before their story arc is completed [Oberyn Martell was my favourite - set up a heroic character with their own hopes and dreams and arc, and then just slaughter them in an arena 😲]. The Walking Dead did it quite well too, even killing off their single most likeable character with a spiky bat [albeit after giving him a rather unbelievable reprieve in the previous season]. A special note also has to go out to the incredible James Ellroy, who killed his main POV detective halfway through a book. Big Cojones, that Ellroy πŸ˜‚

Of course, a comedy erotic game works under different rules - and tragic deaths would be rather out of place. In the original plan, Sam was scheduled to die at the hands of the Shifter in the Season 1 Finale [with the subsequently repurposed Goodbye Yellow Brick Road as a bittersweet soundtrack to MC's grief]. In the end, I didn't have the heart for it - and was also pretty sure that a legion of outraged Sam fans would form a posse and hunt me down 😬

But in the coming update, someone will actually die...

Dum-dum-Duuuuum!

Not Cole I hope..............that would be so much wasted potential.

Personally, I don't think you need to kill anybody off... certainly not a major character. If you feel you HAVE to kill of a good character, I think the most expendable would be Rick and/or his GF.

kind of have to agree with Ravenous on this one. I mean the way I look at it, we have three levels, or layers of npcs: the main LIs, the secondary, one off sex partners (unless of course later on they get another scene or story plot to upgrade them to possible LIs) and the fluff / background characters that show up in a scene or two for stuff to happen, but there's no relationship / sex with them (terminator robot, bf&gf in the shower scene etc. girl in the welcoming video) Killing off any LIs is going to really upset a group of fans/supporters. Killing secondaries will disappoint those hoping that character might get developed more, and killing off fluff background npcs wont carry any real emotional weight. Still its your story, so your rules!

Can't say as I care for the idea of killing off a character. I've had a lot of fun with this game and was hoping it would continue to stay light hearted and easy going and the deaths of characters that I like goes against that hope. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how I react to it when it happens. =/

Ravenous

The death of a character is an interesting idea, although it would have to be earned by it having a good story reason, rather than just to create chaos. You've proven yourself to be an apt story teller though, so I imagine it would be done well. I'm also going to keep in mind that this is set in a Sci-Fi setting, and no one ever stays dead in Sci-Fi, so I'm not that worried. There's ALWAYS the possibility of cloning, time travel, medical miracles, weird unexplained phenomena, alternate realities, an AI version of the character being programmed, an android replica, etc. You even have brought a touch of the supernatural into it with the whole demon thing, so the possibility of going to Pandemonium to retrieve the person that died might even be a thing. Permanent death is so rare in Sci-Fi that there really isn't any shock value to it. Good luck with it though!

Pentasphere

I think death should only be results for bad choices... or characters that look unbangable (ugly what ever that might be)... Cause killing off characters people like is a really bad idea (especially when the whole point of SpaceCorpsXXX is to bang everything and anything in anyway you so choose). The bad ending at the end of season 1 was a good take on the death aspect, in having it, but at the same time it just being what could happen in an alternate existence. Death is the basic factor of never getting to have anymore fun times with that character... and killing Sam would of resulted in huge outrage... But I think that can be said for most characters in this game... Please don't go all Game of Thrones on this, or you might loss Patreons... T_T

Damnnnn, people are going to die πŸ˜°πŸ™€ not Sam or Cole or Chad I hope πŸ˜‚ I’ll be very sad seeing any of them getting the chop!

Ooohhh. Drama. I’m here for it. I would like to see MC be more slutty outside of his dreams. It seems like most (not all, of course) of the β€œgood” stuff is in daydreams and holograms. Time to put those disobedience factors to greater work in his attitudes.

I can see why you would want to for narrative purposes. But I would refrain from killing of main love interests in general especially the male ones as there are realitively few. Unless it is different as to not disturb active routes. Because with games like this deaths that piss off some are fine by others as I would have been fine with sam dieing myself I wouldn't be with Cole so in a set character death is likely to result in a loss of funding.

If that really would have happen to sam, i would finally be able to use the many torture idea i have thought of 😈

Chase

i have the feeling that we met him already and i mean not from the flashback....

Chase

Hm while I understand why killing someone off might be a interesting narrative I would personally refrain from it in a game, whose entire focus is on getting with people that you choose even if there is a lot of comedy aspects aswell, which is an entirely different thing than a book or movie that has no matchmaking whatsoever. I think it was a good decision to not kill Sam (or anyone else for that matter) I mean it would feel very out of place to conduct popularity polls over years just to kill of the characters people want to see more off. A movie and a game that is entirely funded by the crowd on a monthly bases just work different. Then again death can work but for it to work here for me it would have either have had to be present from the beginning or since this is patreon after all make polls who gets the chop. That would most likely still result in backlash in a pick and choose comedy erotic game but feel more reasonable. But that's just how I view it. Whoever dies hope the community won't start a riot xD

Please not Chad!... Chaddington is my boo! I mean, other than Sam... and Dan... and Felix... but OTHER than THAT... he's the one (of four)!

Paul Fernandes-Gibson

Please don't let it be any of the hot guys, I'm still desperately hoping the Dan makes a comeback somehow like he was on a super secret mission or something
