Great Re-View! You guys planning any Severance content? Would love to see your opinions on how it was directed -- you guys always have so much insight in the production process.

Johnson Dunn

What’s a X-wing?

TheSingingBush

I'm out here busting my ass as a StarWars fan and you hacks keep talking about old shit that doesn't even have X-wings

Kristian Harloff

Doth thou have a mug of ale for me and me mate? He has been pitched in battle for a fortnight, and has a king's thirst for the frosty brew that doth might brow for doth!

TheSingingBush

Update: Jay's analysis definitely made me appreciate this weirdo movie more. I probably still won't watch it again for at least a decade, but now I am glad I watched it the one time! Also everything above this comment is hilarious, thank u all

Emma Dawn

Written and directed by Elaine may

Ryan Freedman

Just have to say: I literally laughed out loud. I look forward to whatever movie you get produced.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

What a great discussion, you guys!

Sarah Low

She fucking SUCKS, Neil. NEIL, I won't keep you, but, I hate her stinking guts and I hope she loses her shoes in a river.

Rankin Fithian

I’ve never watched this movie, but I immediately recognized the shot at 1:30. It was featured in Every Frame A Painting’s episode on editing, “How Does an Editor Think and Feel?” I’ll get around to watching it.

andrew

Once I knew about the politics of the director, that is all I can think about when I see the ending of this movie.

Juan Calvo

Daaaaamn! Somebody call 911 because there's been a murder on the RLM Patreon! I can tell you're a writer. Those were some sick burns :) "A lousy writer and a worse critic." That's just a puke-inducing kick to the lady-balls. I would love to subscribe to your newsletter (hear more). Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but law school has been getting crazy lately and I don't do this stuff on my phone... Mmmm...Heroin and molasses. So warm. So safe. So down-home Southern cookin'. My favorite

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Great video; I learned some stuff I didn't pick up on in my viewings of the movie. Should make the next watch more interesting (when I work up to it... definitely a "mood" movie). And heck yes to Josh's Uecker/Lynch shirt.

Kate HL

Finally! I watched this a few days ago in anticipation and it's been sitting in my stomach like a piece of bad cabbage.

Yngwie Tarantino

"Weirdly invested" are the magic words, Neil! Welcome to my online zine, "I Could Talk Shit About This Bitch All Day!" Put most succinctly, she was attention-seeking, antagonistic, and anti-intellectual. I was annoyed by her from the jump, and though initially accused of run-of-the-mill Female territorialism (🙃), I was entirely vindicated by the events that bore out: All on her own, she needled, irritated, or outright insulted like 5 other group members in a row and got booted. Back-breaking straw being when she told a longstanding group member to not be "butthurt" over a game we were playing. She's a Pick-Me ass baby, a lousy writer and a worse critic, and everyone finally got sick of it. It's been 2 weeks and her name lives on in infamy. Plus I get to wear this little paper crown that says "I Outlived My Anime Rival And I'm Always Right." The smug superiority still courses through my veins like heroin + warm molasses. Egg Rankin on to hear more! Reply STOP to Cancel.

Rankin Fithian

sooo I'm watching this for the first time. what the flying fuck is going on in this movie

Brian

I'm conflicted about this movie too. It's not easy, but neither is something like Solaris, which I love. I've only watched it twice, but I don't want to watch it again. I appreciate it and I love parts of it, but something about it never "hit" for me, like Emma said. I wish I had a movie club though! I'm weirdly invested in the unrelated reasons for the anti-Possession member's ejection...

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Thank you for your service. You're a true hero

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Jay and Josh, I admire that you're always able to find the humanity in movies like Possession! (I genuinely mean that.)

Marvin Falz

Polish director working in France made a film in Germany with actors from various countries including New Zeland. Something must have been lost in translation or it is proof that if you tell a film only using emotion it transcends language and borders

Zoran Basic

I ordered a new shirt from the RLM merch store, then I refreshed my youtube page and seen there was a new re:view, so the only logical conclusion is, I am the one who made this re:view possible. you're welcome everyone.

casey

The problem with "Possession" is that in order to care about a movie I have to care about the characters in it and I don't give a fuck about anybody in this... that's an issue it shares with every single Żuławski' film I've seen, by the way, he never directs his actors to be real human beings, but instead to... ... ... whatever this is... His last film "Cosmos" was the absolute worst in that regard, basically unwatchable...

Manuel Johnen

Nobody has to like everything, lol. I happen to really really like it, but even I wouldn't call it an effortless pleasure to watch or anything. I think our That Person happened to be an incurious contrarian more than anything else. That's the only time where I can see a cinematic opinion as also being a moral failing. 😅 Another guy in our group hated it too, but we're still happy to have him!

Rankin Fithian

I think I'm the bad person of my own group because all of my friends love it but I'm conflicted! I'm not at all anti- slow/weird/gross movies and obviously the acting is amazing. It just didn't hit for me. Maybe Jay and Josh will sell me on it, I usually agree with them.

Emma Dawn

Did you shoot the 10/10 guy...?

Manuel Johnen

I love Jay & Josh re:Views!

DonMac

Somehow I knew it would be these two talking about this movie as soon as I saw it was up.

THE_GnomeChomskee

Possession deeply divided our movie group lately, from someone who hadn't seen it until last year and gave it an instant, rare-for-him 10/10... To the person who gave it "a half star" because it's "Weird, awful, and boring." 🙃 The latter has since gotten herself kicked out of movie group for unrelated reasons, but I was ready to let her go right then and there.

Rankin Fithian

I miss the timeline where Jay was slowly transitioning to our elderly aunt

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

RIP Wings Hauser. He’s not in Possession, but frankly that’s a failing on the filmmakers part.

David Sarginson

As with pretty much all of Żuławski's films: off-putting and overrated. The only interesting thing about "Possession" is, that it remains his most well known and popular film despite being also his most bizarre and weird one...

Manuel Johnen

I love you. Are we getting something tomorrow too? My other RLM lovers fam have been commenting how consistent you have been dropping new videos on Fridays!

Thomas Branch

Classic!

AshesBoomstick

Yes!!! In my top five films. But only managed to get through it three times. The first time I watched it… was so emotionally intense I was exhausted. Left me a different person for a few days. Even with the occasional campiness.

Shane

Fuck yes

KLANG

Yeeeeeeeeeees, thank you !
