Kudos to Jack for bringing in the comics! I don't have them so I don't know about the quality, but they don't look too bad...

I'm of the growing up with a video store era and I feel like I've seen everyone of these movies despite never actually seeing a single one of them. so many movies I know of by their box cover art that I've never actually seen.

My neighbor is from Germany and I've told him we here in America need some sort of 'Christmas monster' like Krampus. Cause here we just threaten kids with material loss (i.e. coal in your stocking). He said he agrees. Krampus, Svart Pete, La Befana, something.

A part of this is that our idea of "funny" has changed. Creepiness and fear used to have a different place in culture. Just think of the custom to scare children for educational purposes. I think clowns were never just harmless fun, they were always kind of creepy.

So many good stories there... my favorite is how Kinski was about to leave the set somewhere in the jungle one day and Herzog threatened to first shoot him and then himself with a rifle, if he did so... :D

There are fan films on YouTube by now that have better effects and production values than half of the "real" movies... :/

I love homicidal puppets vomiting leeches as much as the next guy, but surely, if you can suffer the entire Puppet Master series, you can review the Borgesian dreadscape that is Phantasm! \m/ \m/

Werner Herzog made a documentary about Klaus Kinski called 'My Best Fiend' (yes, it's the word "Fiend" not "Friend") that's worth checking out. You will see footage in it showing just how crazy Kinski could get on a film set.

"Aguirre" is wild. My college had a showing of it on a big screen and, coincidentally, I was taking a course on the Spanish conquest of the Americas. We could get extra credit if we saw the movie and wrote up a brief description of our thoughts.

There's been this definite culture shift in the past 30-40 years where several things that past generations thought were funny and delightful--clowns, dolls, puppets, etc--are now universally understood to be bad and creepy. The past one or two generations just reacts viscerally against 'distorted replicas of the human form' as being affirmatively horrific and they've become natural subjects of horror films.

That bit of trivia about David DeCoteau really hit me like a drill sergeant. This guy took every unexpected turn when it comes to movie making.

Do yourself a favor and check out "Aguirre: The Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo", the two best movies he did with Werner Herzog, who is equally insane, just in a different way... :D

This video sparked a long buried memory in my brain of watching Puppet Master 3 at some point in my childhood (as far as I remember, it was on TV and my brother was watching it). For years I had some vague recollection of a horror movie where a toy with a drill head drilled through a guys torso in a car and I think I actually saw that clip in this video. I haven't seen the first two, though. I thought this video would make me not want to watch any Puppet Master movies but it did the opposite, dammit.

I will, thanks! I know Fox/Groenig stole this concept because I remember Spider Ham from my youth (born 78 so maybe ten when I saw him?) and that is definitely not when the Simpsons movie came out lol

Still holding out for the Muppets / Puppet Master crossover which also serves as a Jim Henson biopic.

Two quality drops. From 3 down to 4. And after 6, dives off a cliff entirely.

I used to like the Puppet Master movies, but then they kept getting made again and again and again, which made me no longer like the Puppet Master movies.
