June Updates

Hey everyone! Get ready for a double feature of re:Views Regarding Rich™.  First up, Jay and Rich re:Visit the 1980 live action Popeye movie starring Robin Williams and inexplicably directed by 1970s auteur Robert Altman. If you've never seen it before, it's...strange. That's almost done editing and should be out real soon. Also shot is a re:View with Mike and Rich discussing the first half season of a current streaming sci fi fantasy show that does not have any controversy or anger around it at all and has a very normal fanbase. Coming soon!!

First it came from an an-ih-mule

I'm trying to find my copy of Space Cop: Director's Cut? Hello?

Lance Pendergrass

Normal fan base and streaming sci-fi don’t belong in the same sentence…unless you’re talking about (insert your favorite streaming sci-fi show here)

Elizabeth Thompson

Ah cool I‘t say that could be interesting.

I have long had an idea for like a 'Star Wars Methadone' pack for people. "Here, take this, it'll help wean you off that bad, bad stuff." So far, I've decided it'll include: Dune, the Fifth Element, The Last Starfighter, Spaceballs. What else? (EDIT: I had real hopes for John Carter (of Mars) but alas...)

Jeremy _

Will not watch any new Star Wars crap, and I'm sure I'll enjoy the re:view all the more for it.....

schopi

I think it might be Star Trek Discovery Season 5 but doubt it, went out on a nice 10 episode arc after mostly being shit

Paladin

I may be reading too much into this, but I do worry RLM are growing a bit out-of-touch when it comes to these things. Like maybe the backlash they received from their reviews of Ghostbusters 2016, Last Jedi and Captain Marvel has steered them away from any commentary that could see them labelled right-wing by the SJW mob.

I have a soft spot for the Popeye movie, as it was the first time I'd seen Robin Williams in something other than Mork and Mindy. I also saw the Sweethaven set personally back in '99: it is a tourist attraction on Malta.

jeracho1776

as a little kid I loved popeye and the cartoons. so I was super excited to see the movie. so let me see if I had the same experience as Rich and Jay. I walked out of the theater more confused than anything. i just had no idea what the movie was about and I couldn't understand what anyone was saying. the only time I remember laughter was when popeye brought out an empty picture frame that said on it "me pappy". i'm almost certain it was the first time I was disappointed over a movie.

Shelley Duvall was born to play Olive Oyl

DonMac

I really like the Popeye movie, it was brilliantly casted and had a cool, almost theater like, look to the sets. It's biggest problem is the editing.

adorned_in_thorns

Can't wait for the upcoming live action Popeye movie

John G

I believe they will talk about latest Star Trek show

FoxGod2112

Hello, I’m Shelley Duvall.

Zachary Singer

Shows that don't push the dictates of a pandering political agenda have normal audiences. Woke shows today are the Jesus shows of the 80's. We can see what they are doing and it's cringey.

Miles Long

I used to sing the weird "He's tall and he's mine!" like Olive Oil to make my brother laugh at inappropriate times. Very fond memories,

Allison PM

Just milking those hate clicks for Acolyte. For shame.

floweryfluff

So...you could not resist the temptation to stooping down to discuss whatever SW made-up controversy series is happening right now? O tempora, o mores...

Alessio Roic

Check out the Tencent adaptation from 2023 on Amazon. It is much more faithful to the book and more intriguing in general. Also, it didn’t cost 20 million an episode.

THE_GnomeChomskee

Popeye was underrated at the the time. They took inspiration from the comics and people were expecting the cartoon. The set they built was absolutely insane.

THE_GnomeChomskee

No BOTW in the pipeline? :( Been a while. Would love another Black Spine or Wheel episode. Well maybe after the re:views. Definitely looking forward to Popeye.

RedVIII

Will we ever get a fallout show review or will it not be made out of spite?

Ross Duncan

I'm actually really excited for that live action Popey re:view

Robert Dodrill

oh boy a star trek enterprise re:view! (everything is "currently streaming in 2024)

Brian

Somehow, sci-fi fantasy franchise with a completely regal fan base just wouldn't die. It's been brain dead for forty years but everyone around will lose their shit at each EEG glitch and sphincter spasm. Popeye has some great sets going for it. And in retrospect, it's a positive that it didn't sink the career of the talent involved and had the courtesy of remaining forgotten. That's a positive, right?

Bill Wilson

I would like to hear what the guys think of "3 Body Problem" Season 1 on Netflix. I watched it without knowing anything about the series, and was intrigued by the science and mystery.

EagleEyzz

Yay! Thanks for the update. Excited to see how the Salt Vampire mask project came out.

Amanda B.

Oh boy I can finally know wtf Acolyte is. I don't know anything outside of the controversy and I'll likely never watch it, so my future wisdom is in Mike and Rich's hands.

Bee

Mike and Rich talking about Doctor Who would be unexpected and yet not unwelcome

John Paul Frank

On my deathbed I’ll still be waiting to hear what Mike thinks about The Expanse 😔

heich (hey + ch)

Those Buck Rogers fans can get ornery.

Jerry Strickland

At first I thought the talk of controversy and anger was directed towards the current season of The Boys, but reading the comments it’s almost certainly The Acolyte.

Living Room Set - $799

You're not wrong, but I'm still guessing Star Wars. That franchise tends to have an ESPECIALLY normal fanbase.

Brandon Melling

I will gladly pay you tuesday for a video today!

Jesper Lindberg

they just like chicken

Ambrosia

Oh no...all the people saying they love Popeye...

Red Letter Media

I have to guess it's another Star wars show that people are losing their s*** over for some reason or another. Thankfully I'm mostly off of social media so I don't hear any of that crap anymore. I'll probably get around to watching the acolyte. But I'm so far behind on Star wars that is not even funny. I haven't watched any of the ahsoka stuff because I haven't finished clone wars yet. And from what I understand you need to be watching that to get a understanding of what's going on there. Remember when you didn't have to watch 300 hours of a show to understand another show?

Kellic

The prequel fans are desperate for safe harbor, do take care of them.

Damon Killian

It’s acolyte and they’re just gonna be like “this is bland Star Wars why is it controversial”

Zun

Acolyte Re:View incoming!

Pressley Press

"current streaming sci fi fantasy show that does not have any controversy or anger around it at all and has a very normal fanbase" - You know how little this narrows it down?

tom

The punchline to the MAD parody (where cartoon Popeye was doing running commentary) was that cartoon Popeye got angry that Robin Williams Popeye didn't like spinach and clubbed him and Bluto.

Daniel Frank

Popeye deserves all the love

Kyle Reitenauer

Popeye was the closest to the classic Fleischer Brothers cartoons that we got in a long time. Also very close to the classic comic strip.

Daniel Frank

Rich Evans is trademarked?

Tyler Hansen

Popeye is great. Every time I've re-watched it, I've caught new things going on in the background that I hadn't noticed before.

Brian Bridges

I grew up watching a taped copy of Popeye off of either TNT or TBS including the commercial breaks. Very nostalgic movie for me. Once in a while the songs still get stuck in my head. I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today…

Matthew Reusch

I'm so glad Macaulay Culkin finally gave up his Richy Rich trademark for Mr. Evans! Hollywood stars really are great role models :)

Alex Brown

Strange timing as I was just rewatching the Paul Blart Mall Blart 2 HITB where Mike had to explain Popeye to us.

Joe Relihan

The Boys? Star Wars? WoT? Dr Who? So many to choose from!

David K

So.. not another Star Trek trivia? :(

Nick Schueren

Popeye is great. Amazing sets! Catchy songs. Pitch perfect casting. They just wait too long for Popeye to finally eat his *%^* spinach.

Mike St Louis

Oh god. They’re watching the new Star Wars Slop ™ lol. Thoughts and prayers for Mike and Rich.

I adore Popeye and am so stoked it’s getting the re:View treatment!!
