Personally while I enjoy stone’s work I don’t think she has the staying power of say, a character actress like Tilda Swinton. But I hope to be wrong. Yet Hollywood is a nightmare machine so… who knows what will happen.

ATJ has given some good performances, but they also haven't been particularly varied. Emma Stone has been doing comedy, drama, musicals, and everything else for a long time. She's given extremely unique performances in tons of roles. There's a reason she's well-respected by a comedy director for something like Zombieland, and also become a favorite of someone like Yorgos Lanthimos.

I feel her, Zendaya and stone are in the middle of a rise. Then they’ll hit 40 and be as forgotten as the rest, or be relegated to playing moms. Then they will be replaced by the ‘next’ batch of disposable talent. They kinda use you until they use you up.

2024-05-25 18:46:24 +0000 UTCIs anyone else experiening ATJF (it's the new medical establishment diagnosis called "Anya Taylor-Joy Fatigue. Pill from Pfizer expected to pass phase 4 and be approved by the FDA some time in September! May cause hallucinations, disappearing babies, and poor restaurant experiences. Do not take this drug if you are allergic to this drug). She broke onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere, gave some brilliant performances from the start, and then was suddenly and continues to be in way too many movies. There's a point when an actor does so much in so little time that you start to see them instead of the role they're playing. It's also REALLY hard to imagine anyone playing that role in a comparable manner to Charlize Theron. But I just have severe ATJF. And all indications are that this movie is very similar to the previous entry, which kind of hurts me deeply because I just fucking love George Miller, in part because one of his hallmarks has always been doing something different. And his next movie currently in production is another Mad Max movie. Hopefully he changes up the aesthetics again for that one...
