your mind is messing with you

Good morning!

Your mind is ruining everything. Ok, maybe I’m being dramatic but maybe I got your attention. 🙂

I have a health group and I was thinking about how so many of us ruin our health via our mindset. The battle truly is in the mind. This applies to mental health, physical health, and everything inbetween. We know it but what do we do about it.

Long conversations with Pastor Jim usually lead to the concept of metanoia: the change of how we look at something instead of behavior modification. Metanoia is truly the way to freedom in all areas. What if you saw the food differently and it was no longer tempting? What if you saw your past mistakes differently and you no longer beat yourself up over it but you realize all you learned, all of God’s grace in where you are. What if you naturally desired to move your body and it wasn’t a chore? 

It all starts with how we think about everything. The changing of our mind, though, is not a switch. I know that’s what you want. You want a lightswitch that flips and it feels easy breezy Cover-girl cosmetics. But it is work. It is discipline. It is daily habitual reviewing of what you are saying to yourself and choosing a different narrative to be on repeat in your hamster-wheel brain. I am speaking to myself so if I sound harsh, well, we need it 🙂

How amazing it is that God gave us minds that renew. We have been blessed with brains that wire, rewire, renew and refresh. We are never caught in endless traps unless we choose to stay there. 

Lord, I pray for the renewal of each of our minds in any area where we are not free. Let the Spirit pour into that area and bring a new way of thinking so we can walk in that freedom You came to give. Hallelujah!
