yesssss, I actually drew the Priestess with the fuller silhouette at first, but then I thought.... wouldn't it be cuter if the believer is all soft and round and the Priestess is more lanky and streamlined? I'm glad it's appreciated! ^^

And yes, the idea for a Masked Priestess definitely came from me thinking about how it is much easier for a church of any kind to judge their followers if you can hide behind a mask. It is also easier for the follower to see the divine in something that is a bit less human, a bit less intimate. You can never see if the Priestess feels sorry for you, or hesitates for a moment. Without looking into her eyes, all you can base your belief on is what she says and does. And that's not the full picture, so it allows for personal interpretation, which you can easily push towards the divine.

2025-02-05 14:51:55 +0000 UTCReminds me of one of those faux-deep posts I saw somewhere a while ago on the internet. "The smart man spotted at the nudist beach covers not his genitals but his face." As long as she has that mask on she could be anybody, and therefore can go around naked whenever she wants. ...ok spur-of-the-moment headcanon that the "Masked Priestess" isn't actually a person, but an unspoken role. When someone wants to cut loose they take over the role from the previous Priestess, and hold the role until the next person asks. (Doesn't quite work for people with scars/visible physical characteristics but ssshhhh let me have this)
