A thought / idea for Hacked 3
Added 2020-06-23 23:43:49 +0000 UTCI had an idea last night that I want to explore, and wanted to see what you guys would think. Hacked 3 has been a big source of stress for me, so I'm trying to figure out what might be the best approach for it.
As is, the plan for hacked 3 is to just be the loops of the animation with audio. Not as impressive as the previous ones, but with more variety in the positions / angles. However, this would eliminate a lot of 'progression' of the scenes.
The other option that I've considered is instead to focus on just one scene at a time, and release the animation in parts. This would mean I'd take one angle/scene, animate it with full progression, etc. I wouldn't need to do any transitions cause it's all the same scene, but there would be more animation. It would also mean I'd have to animate more. I'd do this for every scene, but polish each scene when it's done before moving onto the next, releasing it as Hacked 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc.
Pros:
- More animation goes into each scene
- It eliminates the need to do transitions. Each part is more isolated from the others
- Multiple releases means more chances for people to join up as they see it completed
- The final release can be in a big compilation
Cons:
- This extends the project over a longer period of time. Hacked 3 has been stressing me out since the start (especially following my breakdown a few months back regarding fanart).
- This requires more work from me per scene.
- This also impacts render times pretty bad. Doing 60 seconds of footage for instance is way more intensive than 4 seconds.
- This probably won't speed up the release time for something. 3.1 under this approach would be out around the same time as the full hacked 3 project could be released without taking this approach.
I want to know what you all think, and what you would be most interested in: a sooner total project, or several smaller projects over a longer period of time?

Agreed.

2020-06-24 09:24:02 +0000 UTCThanks for helping me bounce ideas around guys. What I think I'ma do, I think I'll test out splitting just ONE scene, see how that goes. If it's easy enough to do, then I'll follow suit for the rest. If it's too much, then I'll go back to just publishing mostly as-is. Animation is annoyingly unpredictable sometimes when you're trying to assess workload.

2020-06-24 06:33:41 +0000 UTCI think I would like it to be split into different parts, but only marginally more than what you've already been working on. If it's really going to be that much more stress on you, I'd say just go with what's easiest on you. I'd love the final product either way

2020-06-24 01:45:31 +0000 UTCthe point of splitting would be to remove any need for transitions

2020-06-24 01:29:55 +0000 UTCThe splitting seems like a big spend of effort for a less-than-ideal return in results, so it seems like it would be more likely to produce more stress and extend the already extreme time the project has taken. I think the looped scenes version would probably be better anyways, giving people more time to really examine each sequence and soak it in, as opposed to being pulled away with transitions.

2020-06-24 01:09:45 +0000 UTCI think you should do whatever works best for you. Splitting it up may help by making you feel like you've actually managed something every time you finish a loop, but if it's easier and less stressful for you if you keep it un-split, go for that :) ❤️

2020-06-24 00:10:50 +0000 UTCsplitting it apart is more render stress though. the original way is basically usually 2 loops per scene, so i only need to do like, 48-96 frames. With the new idea approach it's gonna be more like 1400 frames per scene.

2020-06-23 23:53:56 +0000 UTCFirstly, I suggest making a poll for this. Second, I personally say doing it in parts. It can give you more to work with and in addition, you get the feeling of making progress on it.

2020-06-23 23:48:06 +0000 UTCHonestly I would go with the splitting it apart, since it’s less render stress, and smaller parts instead of 1 large whole
