WIP, Getting Close!

One final update before the animation is finally done! I really thought I could have the final video out by the end of September, so I didn't think to create another WIP. But it's taken me longer to finalize and render than I thought, so I wanted to take you through the last bits of work I'm going through!

I'll put a bit more care into assembling a small collection of tasks I've undertaken lately, just for those of you who are supporting my work🧡I can't thank you enough for being here with me and helping me create for you. I know I have periods of silence, but behind the scenes I'm always working lots to make more fun content for you :3 I'll work on being more vocal with you too!😅

I have a shot in which Chance loses balance mid growth spurt and SLAMS back against the wall, plunging Jay into his thankfully quite soft ass. The wall, however, had no such luck! I really wanted to put some more emphasis on the impact, so I added a couple of effects. One is a puff of dust from the bricks and the ledge above. This is done with a Pyro solver in Houdini. I've used the Rigid Body (RBD) solver in Houdini to add a bit of debris.

I've been working on getting more interaction between Chance and the environment. I've tried using a new solver type in Houdini, called MPM, to create cracks and indents in the ground when he gets big enough to cause that. Then used the Pyro solver again to create some dust, and RBD to cause the small debris particles on the ground to bounce when he grows and when he steps down. So this is a combination of three different solvers 😅

I've worked a lot with Fur and Cloth interaction. It's a tough subject that's taken a long time to figure out. It involves several steps. I already have the animation done and the cloth simulated, so the task is the make the fur stay between the two meshes without poking through the cloth.

There are two ways to do this, one is to simulate the fur so that the cloth and the body mesh push the hair between them, the other is, at each frame in the animation, to calculate if the fur is poking through cloth and hiding that fur.

I've had to do both to make this work well. Calculating if each strand of fur is poking through the clothes is fairly quick, but it can make the fur suddenly appear and disappear. Simulating is time consuming and is prone to issues, like fur catching on fast moving cloth and going all over the place.

I also decided to add a little extra precum to the bulge growth shot that I showed off in a previous WIP. It's the shot that I personally love the most, for toootally professional reasons >.> 😅

I wanted some precum to run down the shorts as he grows, to show how excited Chance is getting! But I didn't really see a good way to do it with any kind of solver that exists. Using fluid sims inside the clothes just seemed impossible to get the result I wanted. So I decided to learn how to create my own solvers in Houdini!

Honestly, the knowledge from doing this is opening up so many new possibilities for me! And it's fairly quick too. I just add a point of "wetness" on the cloth mesh and let it spread!

And then I use the wetmap in the render like this:

I've also improved the textures of the peen and added some subtle detail to the fabric of the shorts when they stretch! So you see a bit of the threads pulling apart before they tear👀

As a final notice, I've reworked their eyes! And I just LOVE Chance's eyes... They're not featured nearly as much in the animation as they deserve, so here's a closeup that really just pulls me in every time I look at it!

I think that's it for this update! There's a TON that I haven't said. A lot of work is going into this animation and I'm working SO hard to get it done for you 🧡 I can't wait to show it to you and move on to a new project haha 😅

As the others have said above: - amazing work - amazing WIPs Love the details you go into, as I do not often see artists explain the inner workings of their craft. For me, personally, one critique. You obviously know a lot about how these programs work, but when you explain about Houdini and solvers, to me, someone who has never used the program, you might as well be speaking Chinese to me. Know your audience. It's a good chance most of us don't use Houdini on a regular basis. Just a brief explanation of what those things can do normally would be a great comparison to how you are effectively using them or using them beyond expectations. Personally again though, I do respect you break down your process. I'm a bit of a nerd, so when you show the technical side of things, you already grab my interest. Houdini looks like an interesting program. What is it normally used for? Is it like Adobe After Effects?

Goodness! Not often I get to see the finer details of animating, I may not understand it all, but I appreciate the dedication and showing of it! Seriously, this is turning out great, and all the smaller things like environmental interactions and cloth sims, and of course, precum, is making it look better and better!
