My 2D Composition Process

Thought you all might like to see how I compose the 2D stuff I make, as there are more discrete steps than in my 3D work.

I used to use photoshop, and I still do for some of these, but I've found that it's kind of relaxing to make these on my phone.

Anywho, I follow this guy with fat nuts on reddit and I couldn't resist making a lil scene outta these.

I start by isolating the subject, and then masking in a background and foreground, which usually means chopping up a single picture of a city. There's no real foreground in this one, so I just put some clouds behind him.

This is followed by layering details, like the plane, and a bunch of clouds, to give a sense of depth and atmosphere.

Finally, I add motion blur and radial blur for a sense of movement, and finish the whole thing by applying some filters, which really helps to match all the colors between the photos.

My biggest pet peve with macro content is the lack of consistency with both details and color, so although a lot of detail is lost by obliterating it with filters, I think the immersion and emotion of the images are heightened.

What do you all think?
