Comments

Life got in the way of this project, unfortunately. Scheduling conflicts and general busy-ness.

This was a fun listen! When might there be more? Or am I not looking in the correct places?

“The Boy” reminds me of the Japanese mythological being known as a Goryo, which is a vengeful ghost, usually who has been martyred. Many cultures have spawned similar concepts in their mythologies, as the concept of retribution of injustice has been encountered by many people.

And oh god I’ve never heard someone actually put it into words what it’s like to grow up in a region like Appalachia or in my case the MS delta. Kinda had to stop for a second bc it resonated so strongly

I really need to get on the discord more bc I have so many thoughts

There will be more.

Will there be more from the RTS, or is it available to a higher tier only?

by chance do you need a practicing Appalachian folk witch to add to the panel?

To be perfectly fair to to inhabitants of Erwin, they do a wonderful fundraiser every year to benefit the elephant sanctuary in Hohenwald.

Uhm, wow. I hadn't listened to the whole of the podcast. So neat to hear how things fit together.

I wonder if perhaps we're looking at "The Boy" from the wrong angle. Perhaps he is not so much a singular being leading the revenues from the other children along. Perhaps he is an amalgamation, made up of the rejection and anger and fear generated in their deaths. This would explain his single-mindedness. And also how he so readily identifies and finds the men who caused the tragedies.

This is a wonderful discussion. As an Appalachian myself I understand the colloquial hidden worlds within mountain communities, each with their own vernacular, passed down stories, and wisdom. Old Gods of Appalachia brings this to life so beautifully!

I had to go back and listen again as I think I glossed over the boy! I decided to just listen again to season one. Soo good and am thinking of doing it again for a third go. I enjoyed the Red Thread! Wonderful!

That was wonderful!💖💖💖

Very fun episode. I really enjoyed Steve's contributions, tidbits, and insights into the inspiration that goes into the making of the show. It might be interesting to hear episodes down the line where it was just the regular panellists, to get a bit more of a wide literary discussion going about the themes and interpretations of whatever the topic is, which is maybe a bit easier to do when there isn't the actual authorial voice of the text in the room. I wonder if having Steve there maybe naturally lends itself to the idea that there's a one true interpretation, rather than any number of possible interpretations, idk. This probably wouldn't be practical until things are more established though, I guess. Very much enjoyed it either way! Look forward to more.
