I got LOTSA time on Remington 700's and especially 700 PSS (police) in 308 at long range. If the wind ain't playing tricks, then 1200m isn't too hard, but I agree, it struggles past about 900m. I think a semi-auto is actually better for longer distance, if you put a quick follow-up shot out there - you can instantly recover from difficult wind calls - as long as you can see the bullet splash :-)
