Handy update
Added 2024-03-23 16:40:14 +0000 UTCHey there! It's been a lil while. In my last post I've mentioned a hand injury, but I never ended up expounding on that. Sorry for that, it's been a pretty crazy couple of weeks for us here in the InCase household.
On top of the hand problems, me and the wife dealt with a pretty intense house move last week. It's been pretty miserable, but it's thankfully almost over.
As for the hand business... I've developed a consistent pain in my drawing hand over the last couple of months and it's been pretty spooky. Still not sure what it is, but my orthopedist has some ideas that we'll be testing for. Not gonna go into the details but it doesn't seem to be that bad.
I've had my right hand in a brace for the last two plus weeks and I am cleared to get back to work, at least for a while starting this tuesday. We'll see how it goes from there.
I don't feel comfortable getting back into any big project right now, so Alfie will have to go on a short [hopefully] hiatus. I don't really know how much work I'll be able to put out for the next couple of months. May be back to normal, or I may have to limit myself. We'll see.
Expect some random porn next week as I slowly slide back into drawing. Maybe a little bit of animation, but not much. I think that using the mouse so much is what did me in in the end.
I'll have to see how my hand feels using the mouse so much again. I've made my setup much more ergonomic in the last couple of weeks but I may need to cut back on some things anyway.
Either way, the porn train never stops... Although it may need to slow down for a while...
I hope that you guys have been having a nicer time than I have!

Even if the train needs to stop for a bit I sure as hell am never getting off

2024-04-03 21:26:01 +0000 UTCIf you can, try wrapping your drawing stylus with foam. That makes it possible to keep a good grip on it, with less effort from your finger and thumb muscles. That does make it impossible to use the function buttons on the stylus, so maybe that's not possible for you. In any case, I hope everything works out for you, drawing-related and otherwise.

2024-04-01 04:44:28 +0000 UTCThese posts scare me! I'm just now getting into art as a near 30 year old but I've never taken care of myself to prevent injuries. I am sorry for the pain you are going through but thank you for sharing your experience so others know to take steps to try and avoid problems down the road. I love your art! Thank you for all of it and I wish you a speedy recovery!

2024-03-24 14:18:05 +0000 UTCAs a person with loads of experience trying to recover from mouse- and computer-related injuries: get some ergonomic mouses (I think that's the correct plural?), learn to mouse with your left hand so you can alternate (not as hard as it sounds), and reexamine your sitting/working position because anything wrong in your arm can very likely be because something is wrong with your neck.

2024-03-24 06:23:52 +0000 UTCGlad to hear the hand isn't as serious as it could be. Take care. Been loving all the work you've created these past few years and I hope to see what else you have bouncing around in your head. Best of luck! :)

2024-03-24 02:33:14 +0000 UTCI'm a huge fan of yours but I'm an animator as well and carpal tunnel or whatever is going on with your hands is no joke. Definitely do not sacrifice your hands to create more content. If you need to slow all the way down, I'm still tuning in. I'm not going anywhere. Just take care.

2024-03-24 00:17:33 +0000 UTCI thought you were merely a remorseless, lewd generating machine and here you are with family and a house and stuff. I’ll have to reexamine my everything. <_> I hope it’s not so wild as your tendon sheaths constricting or something. I hear that’s loads of fun.. but correctable.

2024-03-23 20:15:59 +0000 UTCIf the hiatus takes longer, so be it. I would rather lose a source of entertainment than you lose your livelihood. Recover well, and best of luck with the rest of the move.

2024-03-23 19:59:50 +0000 UTCPlease take care and have patience getting back into the swing of things. Often times its easy to get in a panic and jump into going full steam too soon and getting re-injured. Highly recommend ergonomic mouse/keyboard setups and keeping an eye on drawing posture. Examine the tests the doctors do and ask plenty of questions, pushy ones if need be.

2024-03-23 17:47:19 +0000 UTCDon't be afraid to take a month or MORE away from drawing. You don't want an injury like that persisting and getting worse.

2024-03-23 17:13:23 +0000 UTCI know how scary that can be. Was reading Order of the Stick when Rich Burlew got his nasty hand cut, and that was scary as hell just from an outside observer. And my housemate is an artist but he has EDS, and has to make a lot of preparations around doing art for extended periods if he doesn't wanna suffer afterward.

2024-03-23 17:07:35 +0000 UTCPlease please look after yourself. Would always rather you be able to have a hand that can function over anything else. Here to stay with or without the art. Everything youve produced thus far is worth the sub a million times over, so i do hope you get some time to look after yourself!!!!

2024-03-23 17:05:27 +0000 UTCTake care of yourself. One thing I would ask is if you have an ergonomic mouse? As I got more into gaming the curved over mice just were hurting my hand so I got the sideways ergo mouse and haven't had any issue since. And then I went and got me one for work and it's been wonderful.

2024-03-23 17:02:51 +0000 UTCIn all sincerity I hope you find it easy to get back to work. You shouldn't feel bad about taking the time you need to get right. Unfortunately the world doesn't wait, but hopefully you have the time you need. In the mean time. If you are looking for ideas of what to do. Could start thinking about what you want to do next for Midlife Crisis. If you have nothing better to do. lol

2024-03-23 16:52:00 +0000 UTCTake all the time you need, seriously. Preventing a major injury is always more effective than trying to recover from massive injury, and your health is infinitely more important than any illustrations. I'd MUCH rather wait a few months with no updates and get to enjoy the rest of your long career than watch you push through the pain and end up burning out much sooner.
