Top 10
Added 2024-12-30 22:58:16 +0000 UTCHey guys. I know it's been a while. I've been taking a bit of a break for xmas. Will be back at it in January. I'm going to try and get my top 10 list up by next week sometime. I know we talked about it on our Discord hangout, but I'd love to hear what some of your favorite movies are from 2024. If you have a top 10, or a top 5 to share, please feel free. I hope you guys are having a great end of the year. I'm excited to get back at things soon.

2025-01-02 07:55:36 +0000 UTCI got to see The Brutalist. I believe many of you will be doing revisions to your top of the year lists after seeing it

2025-01-02 06:22:32 +0000 UTCI had an early opportunity to watch it back in February 2023 with a festival jury, and we all passed on it for awards consideration after 35 minutes. (One of my fellow jurors passed after 15 minutes, lol.) But, shows what we know, I guess? We described BEAVERS just as you did: "a frat-boy version of Buster Keaton." So, good read. We found it exhausting even contained to a long short, and it only promised to be mind-numbing at 108 minutes. The filmmaking craft is there... we didn't deny that. Maybe one day I'll finish it with a group out of curiosity, but it definitely is not something I'd ever put on a top-10 list.

2025-01-01 01:10:57 +0000 UTCIt’s low budgeted and the film is controversial for some people. I hope she gets more work out of it, especially from more well known directors.

2024-12-31 21:45:02 +0000 UTCI gotta say Willa Fitzgerald in Strange Darling has got to be the most overlooked performance of 2024

2024-12-31 15:46:02 +0000 UTCCame across like a frat boy version of Buster Keaton. Or College Humor. They repeated the same sophomoric jokes over and over. Also reminded me a lot of JibJab, those awful political YouTube videos from 2004. And I don’t think it’s like Chuck Jones, more like a bad version of Woody Woodpecker. Sorry if I’m ranting though, I’m just upset that I wasted two hours lol. But comedy is the most subjective thing in the world, I’m glad some people find it funny.

2024-12-31 10:06:54 +0000 UTCYou are seriously undermining the craft involved, and the comedy is more akin to Buster Keaton and Chuck Jones than to what you equated it to. I saw it in a packed theatre, and it was a riot – but different strokes. That's alright too.

2024-12-31 09:53:12 +0000 UTCIt's a cult film. I get if its not for everyone.

2024-12-31 09:47:27 +0000 UTCGenuinely surprised a couple of people are saying Hundreds of Beavers. I watched it last night and the type of comedy in it comes across like the YouTube videos an alcoholic uncle sends on thanksgiving day to the family, thinking they’re hilarious. I don’t think I even chuckled once 😬

2024-12-31 08:28:02 +0000 UTCSo these are my retro movies I saw in the theater this year. Lol Breakfast at Tiffany's. Star wars the phantom menace Metropolis Batman mask of the phantasm Batman forever Bonnie and Clyde. Back to the future 2. Psycho Spaceballs I'd rather have Maggie herself try to rank this list. Lol. Some of these retro films are not all on the same level clearly. But I think only Maggie would to take on the mostly pretty clear top 3. Breakfast at Tiffany's vs metropolis vs psycho. That's a bigger clash of the titans than the Godzilla movies. Lol.

2024-12-31 05:19:06 +0000 UTCThis is a complicated question for me. I could try answering in steps. I only saw 11 new movies total in the theater. 😂. Out of the 29 visits to the theater. Actually 12 , saw Deadpool twice. Godzilla minus one Aquaman 2. Ghostbusters frozen empire Godzilla x kong new empire Venom 3. The order. Sonic the hedgehog 3. sing sing Deadpool and wolverine. beatlejuice Beatlejuice. Knee cap Well, none of these films are better than Godzilla minus one. The order wasn't my kinda movie , but it's not a bad movie. Frozen empire is a total disappointment. Not horrific, but a complete mistep. Kneecap is pretty good , about a Irish hip hop group , played by the band themselves. Should almost count as a musical event, not a proper film . Top 5 I guess , 1. Godzilla minus one 2.Godzilla x Kong 3.kneecap 4. Deadpool wolverine 5.Sonic the hedgehog Only frozen empire really left me with ugh wasted opportunity feelings . I actually take Aquaman 2 over that. Beatlejuice 2 solid , sing sing solid. Venom 3 is just the so bad it's good and the movie knows it .

2024-12-31 05:08:33 +0000 UTCFor me, this was a good year for movies even if it didn’t equal 2024. A lot of films this year that are about characters either struggling to find the “truth” and/or grappling with truths about themselves that they aren’t ready to confront or wish to keep hidden. 2024-12-31 00:09:31 +0000 UTCI didn't go to theaters at all because people have become animals. I do look forward to your recommendations so I can check them out later on streaming/Amazon. Of the few things I saw, I liked Alien Romulus a lot more than I thought I would. I'd probably put it as my second favorite after Alien (not a big Aliens guy). Challengers was pretty good too.
