I finally saw Anora and I loved it! Mikey deserves that Oscar. ~ SPOILERS ~ I went back and watched your review and I think they actually give us just enough clues about Ani’s backstory for us to know what type of person she is. It’s an atypical character study in that she drives nearly none of the plot and we’re just watching her reactions to these crazy situations and learning about her through that. And then that final scene is amazing to me because she shows her gratitude in the only way she knows how—sex. Because that’s all people see her as. And when Igor continues to show that he sees her as a person and cares about her, she finally opens up her emotions to him for the first time. So I see it as a happy ending in that it opens the door to the only genuine relationship in the whole movie. Sorry for the ramble.

2024-11-11 22:25:38 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed that one! Wish it got a bigger play in America. I was particularly fascinated with how its more about the enigmatic main character and the different facets of her life, of which this horrific crime is one component. It felt like a really fresh way into this sort of Fincher-inspired story. I think maybe it wraps up a bit too neatly and tells us too much about her motivations? idk, I just think she's more interesting before we know what her end goal really is. Would definitely like to hear your thoughts on it (esp if it helps get more eyes on the movie, too).
