I SAW THE TV GLOW
Added 2024-06-10 23:08:47 +0000 UTCI havent seen this one yet, but I've been curious about it for a while. Especially due to the mixed reception on it. Has anyone seen it? What are your thoughts?

The film would have been a lot better had it ended with Justice Smith sending death threats to the creator of The Pink Opaque because she said there should be a few shelters only for biological women 😉

2024-06-17 00:11:41 +0000 UTCIt’s not a film that will inspire apathy! People will either be left in shambles or leave scratching their head; there will be little mediation between these. In my viewing the person next to me, when the credits began scrolling, broke down and cried reeling in their seat. Concurrently, on the other end of the theater, someone called out “that’s IT?” I think the film is a masterpiece. It stays with you and provides a wealth of opportunities for interpretation and discussion. That aside, the film is beautifully lit and shot, with a stacked soundtrack and sound design. Themes of media supplanting self-actualization is VERY relevant to us today — even setting all the themes of queerness aside. The modern world provides myriad opportunities to vanish into the screen, and I think this has a lot of insight on the risks involved with that. Wonderful, painful film. Please watch it!

2024-06-13 18:53:26 +0000 UTCFavorite movie of the year so far! I was at a screening with the director and got a little bit of insight on the frame of mind she was in when writing and filming it. It was clear she made the movie she wanted to make, everyone else be damned.

2024-06-12 15:16:44 +0000 UTCWhat the director is trying to do is quite interesting and it seems to have the intended effect on a lot of viewers, so as long as you can deal with achingly painful dialogue, structure, and pacing it just might be good! ;-)

2024-06-12 00:41:47 +0000 UTCYeah...you're all giving me the same vibes that people in my comment sections have. I tend to gravitate towards films that are really polarizing, by nature.

2024-06-12 00:34:15 +0000 UTCYeah that's what interests me. That it seems to be so up to interpretation.

2024-06-12 00:33:48 +0000 UTCVery interesting film, emotionally potent, and structurally really frustrating. One of those movies where you can literally have any opinion, whether that's "it's a masterpiece" or "it's complete garbage" and I wouldn't push back too much.

2024-06-11 01:08:41 +0000 UTCI was not so hot on it fresh out the kitchen due to the fact that it had 10 endings and a slow start, but it’s lightly crept in my mind ever since. There’s a particularly Lynchian sequence later on that’s reminiscent of episode 8 twin peaks return. That was really nice. I also found two dope songs from it.

2024-06-10 23:32:33 +0000 UTCThis was one of the most excruciating cinematic experiences in a long time. It was literally (mentally) painful to sit through until the end. At the same time, I've found myself thinking about it -- a bit haunting, I guess?
