Youtube Membership vs Patreon Membership

I thought I would ask you guys your opinion on this topic, as it has come up with a couple of patrons in the past as a way to solve the international issues that make Patreon a struggle. Initially I considered it, but had several specific reasons why I didn't move in that direction. But I'd like to know from you guys what benefits you see from each one, pros and cons. Maybe you subscribe to other channel content and can provide some insight. Thanks so much!

I'm not sure I completely understand, but what's nice about Patreon is that not only do you get to contribute to the content and the creative process but you also get to be part of a caring community which separates those who are truly invested in the channel as opposed to those who react to individual videos, even people who post in the comments religiously. If Patreon doesn't allow international memberships, due to foreign currency or whatever, I think opening it up internationally would be good as long as the same rules apply, so that the votes of loyal supports aren't drowned out by the voices of a multitude - unless the voice of the multitude is deafening. All Patreon subscribers understand the need to satisfy popular opinion somewhat i.e. by posting reviews on popular films such as Star Wars or Blade Runner etc. as long as they're honest, of course, and don't hurt the integrity of the channel. I think foreign influence is good. I think one of the things that attracts people to this channel is that they know they're getting an unbiased expert opinion, whether it's popular or not, which I think you have a good reputation for. It's hard to attack someone who is fair and honest.

Yeah so that's more what I think too. That if you want to engage more the Youtube stuff, then that kind of membership is perfect. But if you are wanting to do more content outside of Youtube with some variety, Patreon is more the way to go.

I’ve never tried a YT membership, but the thing that keeps me hooked on this Patreon membership is the quality of the community. The main perk from most YT memberships I’ve seen is that they provide an edited version of the video without any ad reads from the video’s sponsor(s). I already have YT premium, and I don’t mind hearing creators talk about products they actually use, and I can always skip those sections if I want, so I’ve never felt the need to sign up. Since I’ve never heard you do an ad read, I don’t see the point of doing it. Not sure how to help the international issues. Maybe we can all send emails to Patreon to get them to fix whatever’s going on?

YouTube might take more of a percentage. But you could do more things with you tube memberships. Like members only Livestreams etc.

Personally, I have a relationship on my expectations for each channel. I only ever go to YouTube to watch a video. If I see a poll, or a news story, or a "short", I get annoyed. That's not what I use the channel for. It is just videos. Patreon I only used to engage with creators. I never watch content here. I don't subscribe to any creators who push exclusive content on patreon -- because I'm not watching it. I'll do a subscriber feed or whatever, but I'm not going here to consume content. That's pretty much it for me. I get emails when you post so I treat it like a newsletter. Of course, the benefit of moving to YouTube only would be you never have to read my comments again :)
